What you are calling "japanese adventure games" aren't adventure games at all (in fact, most aren't games at all either). Actual japanese adventure games can probably be counted on one's fingers (either that or they simply never get translated).
Japanese adventure games generally don't get translated. There's Murder Club on DOS, a few ones on consoles, Zeddas on PC. I'm not counting stuff like Phoenix Wright really, these are generally games, but sometimes they're just VNs with the typical adventure game commands.

I'm saying that things in the general vein of MM3-5 exist, but none in the general vein of MM6-8. Well, Aeolwyn's Legacy exists for the latter, but my point kind of stands.

I'd say the main bottleneck lies in graphics (the character artwork for the most part).
I assume you mean the enemy sprites/models? I can't imagine portraits and PC ragdolls causing too much trouble.

That too. Portraits and paperdolls will add to the amount of $$$ you need too -- and with all that together you'll need a lot, assuming you want to do it well.
