My latest deck has been a B/W Knights one that I've been seeing some decent success with, provided my curve isn't pure dogshit. Running things like Venerable Knight/Ebon Legion as one drops, the Grace/Malice knights, Corpse Knight and Worthy Knight for their effects and buff cards like History of Benalia, Icon of Ancestry, Circle of Loyalty and Knights' Charge.

Just had a game where a Knights' Charge's activated effect and Corpse Knight won me the game. Eat shit, board clears.

izzet goblins is my new favorite junk deck to play with

goblin electromancer + spell gobos generation goblin gathering + goblin wizardry
Rest is just throwing any engine spells you wish for, depending on how quick you want it(its never quick)
I'll be curious to see if that big dick goblin in Jumpstart will work for historic. With goblin cost reduction and skirks saccing 1/1s to get him out, miracles might happen. Still probably too weak compared to Ulamog and Phyrexian Obliterator and turn 2 big Ugin but goblins gonna gob.

MtG historians may think this is amusing newb ranting but I fucking cannot tell you how much I despise planeswalkers.

Maybe it's because I see the same ones over and over like Nissa, Teferi or Ugin but some of these are completely obnoxious and are basically a free card cast every turn depending on how good their + ability is. Look at Ugin for example, a +2 which is a free removal/damage spell and then an exile effect and then if you really want you can now regenerate life, draw a bunch of cards and put every monster in hand to the battlefield in one fell swoop. The only thing this busted piece of shit doesn't do for you is boil eggs for breakfast.

The uncommon rarity ones seem to be a lot less annoying but they're such an awkward thing to deal with generally. They just come off as having overwhelming abilities that if you don't have an anti-planeswalker answer to in hand at the moment they come out then you're probably going to be fucked by and likely lose because of. Maybe I'm missing something but they're such an eye rolling moment whenever you see them pop out, "oh boy here comes the 3 enchantments in one." They're such a disruptive part of the game.

This is not an overly rare opinion among veterans. Planeswalkers only exist since 2007 in Lorwyn, they are the last new permanent type to be added to the game.
The big problem with them is that they fundamentally break one of the timing rules of the game. All of them have haste. You cant respond to the planeswalker entering the board, you can only respong on the stack. As such when you dont have a counterspell you will always lose value against a good planeswalker. Worst symptom of this was old teferi, card was cancerous to play against if you hold no counterspell.

I personally particularily despise the uncommon planeswalkers from War of the Spark, and it is what makes me yearn for rotation so they can go fuck themselves. Static abilties like on the Narset are the realm of enchantments.
Also killing planeswalkers is way too santioned. Only black gets to do it for any sane amount of mana, recently white sometimes aswell. For a card that just ends the game if not answered immediatly WotC prints way too few cards that can kill a walker.

Is this problem here to stay? Probably. Planeswalkers sell really well. They make good faces as advertisement on booster boxes and their value tends to be really high. They are flashy cards for new players. WotC loves them.
The game has been more and more Planeswalker centered with every single expansion. After War of the Spark most people were already sick of them. Than they printed Oko, Thief of Crowns.

Oko supreme twink may not look like it, but he is the strongest new magic card printed in the last 10 years apart from maybe Hogaak in modern. He is oppressively dominant and has ruined every single format he was legal in, and is even an oppressive force in vintage, a format where god damn black lotuses for 20.000 $ are legal. Oko is an absolute monster, and luckily enough he became so widely hated (there are so many 3/3 elk memes) that players got sick of the planeswalker in general. WotC has heavily steered back on planeswalkers in the sets after Eldraine - until they got us daddy Eugene tho.

But I like Ugin still, he is 8 mana, he is supposed to be dumb. The problem is a simic curve can consistently ramp more than 1 mana per turn to get him out T4.

The most fun and suspenseful games in Magic I've had thus far have almost always been against decks not running any or barely any planeswalkers or if they do there's some sort of cool method to the madness like Liliana and zombies tribal.

I mean I'm a hypocrite too since I use Sorin for vampires, lolz.

I think both Sorins are rather well balanced, together with the three mana Yideon. They're sufficiently threatening that their presence is felt and they turn their respective decks into well-oiled machines once they drop
and it doesn't feel as if they are one-card-do-all engines.

Biggest problem with 'wankers is is the 5 mana ones are pretty much "kill on sight or it takes over the game". At least the good ones, there's lots of chaff you can get in preconstructed decks. A lot of designs tend to pile up way too many functions on one card
- card draw engine, removal, win condition. While on principle I don't have a problem with cards that must be answered, the problem is with the lack of answer cards.
Only now is removal starting to catch up with them being so plentiful (see the recent printings of Eliminate, Scorching Dragonfire, Storm's Wrath and Pestilent Haze, a lot of removal starts to treat them on par with creatures,
which is what they should have done around War of the Spark).

That said, I always detested the entire superfriends archetype. While I begrudgingly accept after all these years there's no coming back and 'wankers are here to stay, a whole deck where you just throw the lot of them together
feels like it's robbing them of their special flavor.

In a similar vein, I fail to understand the reasoning behind the recent-ish 'wanker rules change which lets you put five Chandras on board, as long as each has a different moniker. I've seen other cards do it much more elegantly,
for example Legend of Five Rings used to recognize that named heroes represented on different cards are the same guy at different stages of their life, with different level of experience. This could be represented in MtG, for example, if you could play
a more expensive chandra over the cheaper version to get a cost discount and/or some extra loyalty, though that would probably break the game unless carefully worded.
I really liked the 'wankers in Origins, they had this "hero's journey" type of feel:

could be funny if you blink him?
Could be, could be. But that often falls under bl*e and wh*te. And you'd wanna be pretty goblin-dense to maximize your chances of him doing something nuts. In fact running cards like Goblin Gathering would suck a little bit with him just since they wouldn't pop off. The lack of trample on him sucks a bit for his buff ability too, unless he pulls a haste-giving goblin and you catch your opponent with his pants down. Which is to say he PROBABLY won't be good enough to give them a fighting chance but I'll keep hoping.

Speaking of goofy tribals (Though sadly including wh*te, avert your gaze) I've messed around with some historic humans since I pulled a few copies of General Kudro. Not good, but it almost feels like it should be. Cards like Thalia and Meddling Mage (Especially with Kitesail Freebooter so you can peek in your opponent's hand and see what he's playing so you have a good idea what to name) are pretty solid. Mainly just got my teeth kicked in by aggressive decks, but that was before M21 hit so maybe with everyone wanting to play Ugin I should try it again. And colors aren't much of an issue since historic.

I've seen a bunch of stormwing entity lists around, the core seems to be something like this:

Opt
Shock
Stormwing Entity
Dreadhorde Arcanist
See the Truth
Light up the Stage
Riddleform

Biggest additions from M21, entity aside, are See the Truth, which you want to cast with LutS, or recast from the graveyard and Riddleform which doesn't give a damn about sorcery speed removal.

This leaves three slots to fill, one of them will probably be some kind of cheap buff for Dreadhorde Arcanist (Enrage, maybe Furor of the Bitten) so it can recast See the Truth, the other should be some kind of a creature:
Brineborn, Vandal, Jeskai Elder, maybe Lightning Stormkin. Brazen Borrowers and Callous Dismissals sound ok as well.

Embercleave isn't out of the question, imo, or you can cram in some more interaction and play it as a more tempo thing.

In general izzet seems... down for a while now. When new sets hits you will see some players probing waters and abandoning due to not being able to keep up.
In historic though they are quite well, with probably wizards being most popular(played with them whole day). Anyone got some cool izzet deck that isnt phoenixes/wizards/gobos? Not cool but strong are fine too. I never felt that spells in graveyard archetype ever took of. Didnt try yet prowess archetype altough I already own 4 copies of stormwing entity

have you tried making an izzet deck in brawl? seems pretty ok there whenever I'm matched against it. I think izzet doesn't really have the tools to hold up in standard right now

I had an izzet land destruction deck that was ok in standard a few months ago but I deleted the deck :/ basically it had 4x rubble reading, a bunch of red removal, and copy spells to blow up opp board

good thing nobody plays that card :)

I actually added three to my deck right after M21 was released because everybody was spamming shrine decks in the diamond tier.

If there are no enchantments to cast, and its the last card in my hand, its a free massive health boost. YMMV

What's slowly drowning my enjoyment of the game right now are those goddamn fucking asshats of human trash that are CONSTANTLY ROPING EVERY SINGLE TURN. I AM LOOKING AT YOU, BLUE PLAYERS. I mean yeah, sure, some plays require some calculation, but every single turn these fuckwits rope on every single opportunity to interact even if it is absolutely clear they will click resolve anyway. What are they doing? Watching porn on another tab? Playing while working?

You can say what you want about Hearthstone, but it doesn't have that problem. So while MTG is the superior game, Hearthstone remains a much smoother online experience.

Facing an ultra gay blue deck, Teferi's Tutelage style mill and twenty hundred removals.

Had everything on board sent to graveyard, down to 10 cards left in library, next turn was imminent defeat. For the past three turns the opponent has been spamming "good game" hoping for me to concede as well as "oops" or "nice!" when I'd play creatures only to have them removed. Second last turn he begins to spam Shatter the Sky, Kaya's Wrath, Time Wipe on an empty board for maximum disrespect.

Sitting with a Swamp and a Murderous Rider in hand, final draw comes in.

I sit there for a second, looking at the massive amount of mana I have, I play the Murderous Rider raw. Opponent saved an extra Shatter the Sky for it. He spams Oops then "Your Turn."

I let him soak it all in, knowing that he's enjoying this. I'm making him think now I'm going to be a roping scumbag, taking my time, refusing to face inevitable defeat. Every few seconds I hear Tezzeret's faggot voice go on about my turn and oops. The rope timer is starting, I finally break my silence and emote Good Game. He says Good Game.

I lay down Knights' Charge, resurrect my entire goddamn graveyard, and watch Corpse Knight procs bury him alive.

As a final parting gift as he begins to watch Tezzeret's face explode into nothingness he sees one last thing:

"Oops."

Get FUCKED.
