Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
On the other hand, I kinda get Pierre. I've finished my test module, all the art, monsters, loot and scripts I wanted are in place... the only problem now is balancing it. I directly copied all the stats from the D&D module, made for a group of 4 Lv 2-3 characters, but you can solo it with a Lv 1 min-maxed mantis and a few reloads (aka, the KOTC2 way). There's a temptation to make it harder, but then I feel like I would be doing exactly what Pierre did...
This is exactly what I figured was going to happen ever since he announced the game, and it's the reason why wing clipping 3.5e in KotC 1 was always going to result in a better game than implementing a million billion classes and races.

Step 1: true seeing on your fighter.
Step 2: arrow of slaying to the face.

Still require allying grey goblin, else you dont get the arrow of slaying on trader. But nice alternative strategy, cost less than sacrificing HP to get level 9 spell . They will most likely nuke you next round however.

You can also be a Fighter with Wade In feat.

Monks can get it too, although they lack access to Superior/Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting. But perhaps a Mantis Monk quadwielding light weapons for Flurry of Blows and weapon enchantments might be worth it? Farther movement range, more attacks and better AC and saves for lower BAB and less damage per attack compared to a fighter. Though I'm not sure wether the added survivability would justify the loss in damage potential.

Does Wade In work with charging? It's not clear from the help file, since charging seems to be handled as a singular action, not a move action followed by a standard action.

The sad truth about KotC 2 difficulty : Pierre is a Munchkin and think every other player is one as well, to balance that and make his game challenging, he acted like if everyone would cheat to get maximum stats and gold and increased the difficulty exponentially.

As proven by his KotB review :

[...]

Craft Wondrous Items lets you craft +4 Belts of Strength which are very useful. Craft Wand gives you cheap Wands of Healing, cheap Wands of Identify and any other wand of a spell that you may want to cast several times before resting. Enchant Weapon is useful but not great because there are only a few masterwork items in the game and enchanting from masterwork to +1 only gives you a +1 bonus to damage. By the end of the game, you can craft +2 weapons, but by then you won't need them.

* You can use a trick to get all 18 scores. Click 'roll' then switch to 'point-buy' then increase a score to 18 then drag and drop the 18 to a certain empty spot a few pixels below the initial position. Then switch back to roll, the 18 appears as if it was rolled. Move the 18 to the top of your abilities. Repeat six times until you have all 18.

* For an easier and more pleasant time through KotB, give all your characters all 18 ability scores. That way you will meet all skill requirements, get all the possible dialogues and complete all of the quests. Give all social skills (including languages) to a single character because the game will only check social skills on a single character, the one who is talking. The game will sometimes check multiple skills on the same character, such as Speak Languages, Sense Motive and Diplomacy, so it can be frustrating if you have your skills distributed over several characters.

* Also, use the console command "levelup()" to immediately level-up your characters to level 2. This will allow you to bypass the 'grinding' part, where you have to look for easy encounters just to level up to level 2, because the game does not have any appropriate challenges for a level-1 party. There's a problem of challenge mismatch: you will encounter a Black Dragon and a Spider Queen when your party is very low level; and you will battle with Goblins and Kobolds towards the end of the game when your party is high level and these creatures no longer pose any challenge.

Similar to the RPG Age of Decadence, KotB can be absolutely brutal to first-level characters. There are no quests or encounters specifically geared for level-1 parties. This is not a game for D&D 3.5 neophytes. At level 1, the easiest encounters you could get are wilderness random encounters against pirates.

He even acknowledge the module can be brutal or even a challenge mismatch because you encounter a Black Dragon and a Spider Queen too early ...

Don't get me wrong, i like challenging encounters, KotC was really good in that regard but reading about the feedback so far, it feels like Pierre the DM and Pierre the Player are two different people.

Also, i love having a couple of "impossible" encounters like the secret final battle in KotC or Iuz coming to say hello in ToEE.
Still, some regular challenge most of the time with some higher challenge from time to time and eventually some impossible fights is the way to go (mostly, "impossible" for optional battles and final(s) battles)

Maybe his problem was with the latter half of that statement that says you'll fight easy stuff later.

you will encounter a Black Dragon and a Spider Queen when your party is very low level; and you will battle with Goblins and Kobolds towards the end of the game when your party is high level and these creatures no longer pose any challenge.
You should obviously be fighting the equivalent of black dragons through the whole game.

In the spec bar you can set what to do when your character got an AoO but right now the only option available is 'attack'. Is this a bug? Cause I really wanted to set it on 'trip' with my trip specialist.

I thought Death Snare would be easy for my new party.

NOPE.

What's the consistent strategy here? My Banishment has a 1% chance to work, so that can't be it.

I think the strat is:

Use break enchantment pre combat to get rid of suppress sword.***
Mass align weapon should now work to get through his DR.
Dominate the two sword dude with low will saves who will wail on him till they kill themselves.

***Have no idea if this works. Thought of it after i'd banish spammed my way through.

Once again I need a clarification. I'm sure that the underwater lizard priest in chapter 1 dropped some sort of a secret message you had to decode. However, during my last two playthroughs I haven't seen said message. Does anybody know if the 1.01 patch removed that item? Or is there a condition that you need to meet to get it?

Right, it's in the chest. Replaying the same chapter over and over and over again is messing with my head.

Honestly, I've been starved for a good RPG and here it is. Why the first module has the difficulty of "forget it" is hard to explain, though. What's the next module? Where do you even go from here?

Don't get me wrong. I like difficult games. And I know it's a game for a niche audience. But this was an awful business decision! Nobody normal will survive this. And wouldn't it make sense for the next modules to be more difficult? Yet there's no room to grow left!

Maybe he really doesn't want money in the end.(and yay for us if so)

No, the Discord users actually found another way that's way more efficient:

1) Stinking Cloud on Warlock
2) kill rest with AoE (like the Meteor Shower scroll, or some Earthquakes)
3) GRAPPLE the fuck you demon, he can't do shit

Honestly, that I haven't thought of it makes me ashamed. I just didn't have Stinking Cloud, and I also hadn't tried Grapple before.

I am playing with mantis monk grappler. The Rake feat grants extra attacks with natural weapons while grappling. Let's see.

yes, i never rolled a fighter, that's a gladiator and the sequence of shit tier rolls is unbelievable especially if it's true that the game rolls twice and keeps the higher one, what are the odds, the starting 3s are also complete crap

Those are ALL the rolls, meaning that the game will take two of them at each level up. At level 2, this sick gladiator will be able to choose between a 3 and a 3. At level 3, the choice will be between a 3 and a 4.
