Is Sleeping Gods Lie really a RPG? I just don't find it that impressive, from a technical standpoint, since it came out the same year as Drakhen. I haven't touched it yet, so I could be full of shit.

Reposting an old post of mine about the old DOS game Carrier Command , it belongs in this thread as well:

iu

2207_4a97eaff814fc.jpg

Game where you control a carrier at Sea. You can launch planes and amphibian ships. The goal is to colonize islands. You have to load up equipment on the vehicles, fly/sail to an island, build structures on the island (guns, command centre). You are going up against one other enemy carrier, which is doing the same.

From old post:

The command of different vehicles (four amphibians, four planes) directly (like in a simulation) or by programming them (AI implemented) - you could watch the view from all vehicles at once in split-screen mode - localized damage on the vehicles and the carrier, drones that protect the carrier with positions you could select, different weapons, the building of structures on islands (like anti aircraft guns that shot enemy planes flying over, landing strips your planes could land on, drilling towers for mining oil), a map with dozens of islands, and a second carrier with the same things that is doing the same stuff you are doing (colonizing islands and building structures on them). All in real-time 3D. When you sent a manta on an island with a 'colonizing bomb', you would see the island's structures slowly being built up. I am probably even forgetting about a ton of stuff.

It's not as old as some titles in this thread and I'm not sure how obscure it is (it's on GOG), but I have fond memories of Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator. Not to be confused with the Stronghold series, this one is actually a Dungeons & Dragons-based town builder game. Your group of ex-adventurers settles down and decides to try their hand at managing a settlement. You build houses, farms, mines and various other buildings to balance the (very simple) economy and attract other adventurers as residents. Your residents also act as guardians against the monsters that spawn from their own buildings on the map and wander into down, and you can eventually gather enough men for counterattacks to raze their lairs to the ground.

The best thing about the game is the pseudo-3D interface which lets you see your town spread across hills, plains and lakesides, and gives the game a homely and relaxed atmosphere.

That's not a clone, that's almost a reskin!
The voice acting is hilarious, with the workers always complaining, and the basic combat vehicle commanded by an evil-sounding dominatrix.
Too bad the two factions look too similar.

There are notable small differences between the two races :). Humans need to build wind turbines and power plants near to the other
structures, while Robots can build anywhere and all builds receive energy. Humans wields the power to launch ICBMs while Robots can only redirect it, but both races can deactivate
ICBMs

I haven't played the game so I didn't know that, I was judging from the aesthetics and what little info the video provides.

Darkwatch is an edgy FPS game I rarely hear anybody talk about. It's more or less like a grimdark Call of Juarez where you play as a western gunslinger-turned-vampire fighting hordes of the undead while trying to retain your humanity. It's been a pretty long time since I last played it, but I remember combat being pretty solid and challenging. It was released in the mid 2000's right around the time VTM:B was released, so it's got that great gritty dark goth vibe we don't see that much in games today.

hubba hubba! Gotta love a tight huge rack. Impossible physics I suppose.

Not necessarily. There was research released not that long ago that concluded that bra-wearing leads to saggier boobs, because the muscles in the breast atrophy from disuse. It found that breasts are perkier and more shapely, when factoring in age, if the woman goes braless.

Darkwatch is the game Capcom picked up after dropping Red Dead Revolver. At least in America anyways. I do remember hearing that at one point Red Dead Revolver had some supernatural element to it, (which I'm pretty sure is why Undead Nightmare happened) may have been in a Game Informer quick look at it; but I don't think there's any footage of it. Darkwatch was also one of those games that got featured in Playboy.

Red Dead concept art by Capcom artist Akira Yasuda...still has the best character designs in the Red Dead series.

Ah Tala was in playboy as a feature article about nude but not so nude suggestive characters in gaming. I never knew (or even knew of the fame since I don't console play these days. I gave up that subscription decades ago. Shelf space but thank you publishers clearing house for the low price.
Surely this is fan art.....

As a kid I dreamed of playing Strip Fighter 2 - and furiously jacking off to the pixelated babes. Never did get my hands on it, but I was reminded of this game's existence while browsing TG16 roms.

Gods. One of those arcade-rpg games where you had to memorize every little thing, and then make zillions of re-runs with the newly gathered memory. Although a full run-through with everything memorized took around 2,5 hours, easily many dozens if not hundreds of hours sank into mastering it. A pre-rogue-like indeed! Loved the heck out of it, never finished all the level puzzles, grrrr.

PS: I post the Amiga version due to slightly better music, but the game is totally the same as the PC version.

I'd like to tap into the collective knowledge of you fine connoisseurs of :obviously: entertainment, maybe you can help me identify three old games.

1st game:
A futuristic 3D tank game whose demo I've found on a gaming mag's CD supplement. This must have been early to mid-90s, so late DOS to early Win95 era. The game used vector graphics which seemed pretty sharp to me at the time, though surface textures were either very primitive or non-existent. If you know Battle Command or Nova 9, I think this one had somewhat better graphics (in no small part due to having more objects on the screen at the same time), but not by a tremendously huge step. Some details I remember:

- The demo consisted of one mission, and it felt like the missions of the full game would form a coherent storyline.

- I think the tank was predominantly blue.

- You got radio transmissions from your HQ as the mission progressed, and the radio operator's image appeared in a corner along with the text. The image might have been vaguely manga-styled?

- You had a main cannon and a machinegun, and you could pick up other weapons during the mission. One such other weapon was a surface-to-air missile launcher for use against helicopters.

- You had a rear view mirror. You could also switch to an outside view, but that wasn't very good for actually controlling your tank.

- The mission started in an urban/suburban area in the NW-N area of the map, with streets blocked off by Czech hedgehogs that could be easily cleared away by shooting them a bit. Enemies were tanks and helicopters. You had to drive around and find some sort of keycard. There was one particular area with several landed helicopters that took to the air and started hunting you if you approached.

- Once you had the keycard, it gave you access to an island in the center-south part of the map, where you had to drive around some more and, I dunno… destroy or activate some device.

2nd game
C-64. It was a space game with multiple stages. Stage 1 was essentially a Jupiter Lander game, but with a single landing pad that lay at the bottom of a multi-screen chasm. Stage 2 was the exact same chasm with the same flight mechanics, but now you had to take off and fly out of there. There might or might not have been a stage where you were in open space. Stage 3 (?) was another Jupiter Lander sequence but on a different planet. Stage 4 was… different. The screen was divided in two. In the top half, you could see an astronaut whom you could make walk around on the planet's surface (spread over multiple screens). The bottom half of the screen showed a colourful jumble of squares, which was perhaps some sort of map, but I couldn't make heads or tails of it, and I had no idea what I was supposed to do here.

3rd game
C-64. A horror game, I think. It was sort of a false top-down view. Movement and terrain tiles were arranged along cardinal directions, not diagonally. You controlled a little man who was depicted in side view. When the game started, you stood in front of a closed gate set into a wall running left to right. I have no idea if you were supposed to somehow open the gate, I could never figure out how. If I started walking left or right along the wall, eventually an arrow flew at me from beyond the edge of the screen and killed me. If I started walking "down", away from the wall, the terrain would gradually change into brightly glowing tiles (mines? acid? magical bullshit?) that became more and more dense until it was impossible to proceed – stepping on these tiles also killed you.

One memorable thing I remember is that once you died, you got to a Game Over screen. The bottom part of the screen depicted a graveyard with a brown, freshly dug grave in the center, and your figure's sprite was visible underneath the somewhat transparent grave sprite. And you could still control your guy, he would wriggle around under the dirt, but couldn't get out.

Probably something from Dynamix. Aforementioned Nova 9 was not their only tank simulator.

Well, bugger me! I went through Dynamyx's titles on Mobygames and it wasn't amongst them, but then I decided to methodically go through their entire Tank tag, and found it! It's Metal Rage: Defender of the Earth

Glad you found the first one. I was checking and I legitimately couldn't find anything that fit most of what you were describing. As to the 3rd game, I'm looking through some horror titles, since the death screen seems like something someone would take a screenshot of, but so far no dice. Could you compare the game's graphics to something? Like Gauntlet or Ultima VI?

EDIT: Is it Maxwell Manor?
