Ok so a small update.

My 6 wiz party has reached chapter 3.
So far so good, was a lot of reloading but very enjoyable.
Suprisingly, magic missile with accompanying feats turned out to be a monster of a dps spell for burning down foes fast.
Biggest hurdle ofc was the gobbo king so far, but as my lvl grows, i get new spell levels to play with and things get somewhat easier.

Shame the module is so unbalanced, damn you Baguette, get to fixing shit!

At this point im at the pizzara fight, lvl 7 but can lvl to 9. I need advice on nuking the ice devil guise. Halp!

Silence is always the key, an effect like that without a saving throw is one of the strangest things in 3.x.

Anyway, she is a whore. And not of the good kind. She is a decadent prostitute that gives you HIV even if you use a condom.

You weren't entirely wrong, though. Once I had a bug where the green goblin merchant simply linked back to the grey elder one.

At the time Pierre simply hadn't coded the green goblin vendors. Only restored working in 1.03 I think.

I kind of want to make modules but the editor is actually a lot fiddlier than it looks. Making scripts is pain.

Since releasing KOTC1, Pierre has become the master of coming up with fights that could be hard but fair and then ruining them by adding something insanely stupid. Take this Goblin King one: terrain disadvantage, forced unavoidable surprise round, and heavily outnumbered by enemies that are specifically designed to take advantage of your terrain disadvantage. This is reminiscent of the KOTC1 gnoll trap fight where you fall into a pit and are surrounded by gnolls who get a surprise round to shit on you. Most people, including me, found this to be one of the more memorable and enjoyable fights in the game, despite (or maybe because of) the deck being stacked against you.

Dissatisfied that most players would get through the Goblin King fight as described above with two or three casts of the reload spell, Pierre adds the piece de resistance: a level 13 super caster who can summon a demon strong enough to fight your party solo or cast empowered AOE spells that can one shot your non-fighters. Or both! This took me at least ten casts of the reload spell until the Goblin King didn't shit on my party solo and got nauseated by a stinking could. I can tell you I did not enjoy it as much as the gnoll ambush, which took me a couple of tries the first time I played the game but not frustratingly so.

Fun fact: Goblin King is also a psychic, so if you think you've silenced him, you've actually encouraged him to use his 60 damage chain energy ability to annihilate your party. A level 7 d6 hit die character with 18 con who hit max hp on every level up would have like 70 hp, so I guess it would make a difference if I was playing in 1.03 and picked all the easy mode options and maxed stats for my entire party. But I'm playing 1.02, and my casters had on average about 40-50 hp.

I'm focusing on this fight but it's a recurring issue in the game.

I can tell you I did not enjoy it as much as the gnoll ambush, which took me a couple of tries the first time I played the game but not frustratingly so.

Fun fact: Goblin King is also a psychic, so if you think you've silenced him, you've actually encouraged him to use his 60 damage chain energy ability to annihilate your party. A level 7 d6 hit die character with 18 con who hit max hp on every level up would have like 70 hp, so I guess it would make a difference if I was playing in 1.03 and picked all the easy mode options and maxed stats for my entire party. But I'm playing 1.02, and my casters had on average about 40-50 hp.

I'm focusing on this fight but it's a recurring issue in the game.
I'm going to quote Dickie here:
You can check his arcane slots to see if he's used them all. He only has two level-6 spell slots. He can use Empowered Ice Storm to kill your whole party, and he can summon a vrock, but he can't do either of those things 3 times.

He also can debuff you and dispell area effect, AI is extremely good, i really dont understand how pierre works. He can do the impossible but fail at trivial stuff like balancing the encounter, there's guidelines for D20 on the web.It could have been perfect, just prebuff the king tone down his caster level and it's decent challenge already with all the minions and the highly resistant scorpion you get to kill.

Probably it's already common knowledge, but Energy Wall is incredibly good to deal with chapter 4 encounters after the gate breach. Being a no spell resistance/no save spell, you can empower it to deal reliable damage (around 70) at medium range to wizards, psionicists, dragons, demons, devils and those annoying purple archers. It doesn't have the destructive power of empowered cone of cold, prismatic void, energy ball, energy wave or greater ice storm and it lacks the trip effect of sirocco, earthquake and tornado blast, but it's still useful in its own niche.

Since the new patch is not savegame compatible, I made a new party. Same characters as before, except:

- changed my cleric's domain powers to summoning that tentacle creature and having more range on spells; previously I gave her blinding and better turning, but turning undead is utterly useless and every other domain power is ten times better; that tentacle beast is a great summon
- replaced my fighter with a samurai; she is focusing on reach weapons and critical hits and goddamn does she do some massive damage; good decision
- replaced my ranger with a bard; probably should have taken a druid instead tbh, the bard is nice but eeeeh... can't keep up with the others in terms of usefulness

turn undead always been gimp in 3.5. The best thing you can get out of it is make undead flee which becomes very difficult at higher levels where it really helps. Once you get access to empowered evocation cleric spells it becomes completely outclassed.

Turn undead in 2E was awesome in that fear was more likely or straight up killing the undead. Oh and evil clerics would control the undead instead of killing them.

Don't be gay, take a Druid. The merchants in chapter 3 sell an enormous stock of Greater Ice Storm for pennies and during chapter 4 you want to spam that shit like crazy. All my level 8 and 9 slots are just Greater Ice Storm, with the occasional Earthquake thrown in there. Fuck Whirlwind, stunning enemies is useless because everyone and their mother has that horrible contingent break enchantment.

If Greater Ice Storm was a woman, I would fuck her all night long.

Yes, Paladins can use all Cleric/Druid scrolls.
Both are divine magic. There is arcane, divine, psionic.

As a matter of fact, the main way the Bishop lategame managed to stay relevant was by using those ~6 Greater Ice Storm scrolls you can buy.
