It's a bog standard JRPG with a couple interesting mechanics. It doesn't belong anywhere near a top RPGs list.

No. It doesn't belong here. It's just OK by JRPG or Final Fantasy standards. Whatever those standards may or may not be relative to WRPGs.
It's probably just that token Japanese game, a diversity entry if you will, because as usual game journos don't know what the hell they're talking about and don't even really *play* games.

Anachronox - one of the few RPGs I was unable to complete. Not because of difficulty, but of boredom.
