Build me an Arcanum character because I'm a filthy casual and too stupid to do it myself.

What's the best build to experience Arcanum with? Not the most OP and destructive. The best character to experience the most content, quests, dialog, etc.

Like in Planescape Torment you'd roll a high int/cha character to access the most content.

Back when the game came out I rolled a Dwarf gunsmith because I fetishize short hairy violent men. Now I want to replay the game and I don't want to go through the classic RPG bullshit of blindly creating a character and playing for 10 hours just to restart once I realize what a dumb fucking build I have.

A high int/cha character that uses magic.

Pick the first Black Necromancy power and it will also be the most powerful build.

For a game that's supposed to offer a high variety of builds, it's a disappointment that everyone goes with the same necromancy blast spell build.

if you're into Neutral aptitude chars, you can pick up basic stat buffs provided by the four elemental magicks AND combine them with Therapeutics and its stat boosting elixirs to have lots of high stats all around - both are based on INT

it's a bit of a stretch to build and doesn't quite shine early game, but i remember having fun with it a while ago

Make sure to have high charisma so you can have as many followers as possible. Might be considered OP but you did say you want to experience most content. Also, if you dabble in magic make sure NOT to use the Harm spell because it's cheap/too good in the long run.

You want the most convenient walk around kill everything whatever experience? Magic, Time Stasis, Disintegrate, Harm.

Or you could go full tech and experience the real monocled Arcanum experience of dumpster diving for rags the first 10 hours of crafting crazy ass wacky guns

First - just in case you aren't - use Drog's UAP. It fixes/restores/adds a lot of content.

For easy mode, high Charisma and Dex, focus on Melee/Dodge/Persuasion. Dipping into magic for Agility of Fire and Harm just make this build even easier. You can also take several followers this way. "But, Acrux" I hear people saying, "if you take a lot of followers they will steal your XP!". Ah - that's where the latest version of UAP has the best innovation yet: the "No XP Per Hit" option. Now, you can have all your XP with any party size!

There are a lot of fun builds. I'm playing a dumpster diving technologist who uses firearms right now (using a firearms mod compatible with UAP). Thieving is actually fun in this game. Haggling is useful. Bows are fun (better for a technologist). Stay away from Spot Traps.

Play the game multiple times with multiple different builds of multiple different races. You can't see and do everything the game has to offer in one playthrough with only one character. Also, no shame in downloading a cheat and buffing your char to godlike levels in order to speed through the shit combat to experience the story and world.

I'm very into cock and ball torture
The good old "oops all mind stats maxed" build works also fine with summoning, if you want a different flavour than necromancy.

A true hybrid character with the alignment at 0% between tech and magic is pretty challenging to play, but actually rather satisfying if done well.

Techy gunslinger dwarf is the most balanced and fun way to go
Magic, melee and high cha paths are OP and make combat stupid easy as soon as you make a few upgrades (in magic's case, right from the start)

I have had a lot of fun playing Arcanum as an idiot who insults anyone who is mean to him, and will do anything suggested to him regardless of how heinous the act might be.

Arcanum does a good job of not locking you out of content because you're stupid, it's much better than FO1 or FO2 in that regard where you pretty much need mentats of foreknowledge to finish the game as a simpleton.

Probably not appropriate for a first playthrough but I still recommend it.

Play as a Beautiful Half-Elf and whore yourself into the Gentleman's Club

A true prestigious path. Did the same with my Elven debutante.

She whored herself through first half of the game, then turned into an archmage and disintegrated everything standing in her way in the second half.

Good times!

Considering that many games won't let you use necromancy, I can see why necromancy would be the first choice for many.
