Pathfinder: Wrath
Grawalkers kickstarter offered such a nice blend of Jagged Alliance and Bureau 13 so I could not help but crack open my piggy bank.
And now it’s finally available for backer’s early access.

8si12rX.jpg

After 4 years since kickstarter campaign the game still looks and feels like it's still in early stages of development. So what is there to see.

There are 9 classes:

  • Agent - social skills and stealth experts
  • Arcanist - arcane spellcaster
  • Armsman - melee-weapons specialist
  • Diviner - divine spellcaster
  • Martialist - unarmed brawler
  • Scout - tracking and hunting specialst whatever that means
  • Slayer - supernatural creatures specialist killer
  • Soldier - firearms specialist
  • Survivor - some sort of a jack of all trades
wDuXWcm.jpg

7 different races:
  • Cambion - demon offspring
  • Dhampir - half-vampire
  • Faechilde - fae offspring
  • Hunterborne - super-human mutants, “nature’s response to supernatural threats”
  • Nephlim - angel offspring
  • Wolfkin - half-werewolf
  • Human - half-human x2

Races have positive and negative traits, like extra extra skill points, additional abilities and vulnerabilities.

Character development is pleasantly complex. There 7 attributes and a lof of abilities and skills.

The stats are not less complex than in D&D or SPECIAL:
  • Might
  • Agility
  • Physique
  • Intellect
  • Awareness - governs senses and hand-eye coordination
  • Willpower
  • Presence - works as charisma
OBI7PDp.jpg

The sheer number of abilities and skill is impressive.

Abilities are classified as Combat, Physical, Mental, Social, Racial, Supernatural and “Others”

Skills - Physical, Social, Mental, Magical, Combat

giWpBdO.jpg

Note the Social skills on the screen shot. This kind of implies a more complex gameplay then just tactical combat.
There's both Deception and Persuasian, with even deeper (and potentially redundant) segregation of Deception on bluffing, conceal motive and disguise.

But I suspect that some if not most of such skills would sooner or later get on the chopping blcok.
For example, there’s a Drive skill with sub-categories ranging from cycles and trucks to boats and airplanes...

Oh and ther's Magic! Which has Arcane and Divine kinds.

The most important part.
The combat has an honest point-based system, not move+action popularized by nuXcom, with dynamic initiative system (stats + 3d10 at combat start);

There’s a decent number of tactical options, - such as crouching, overwatch, different stances, different attack modes. Some of them are not yet implemented though - crouch button does nothing at all, for example.

Z2Fk7JD.jpg

Ammunition takes inventory space and has weight, and there are different kinds of ammunition for each weapon. Magic spells use energy points.
Weapon names suggest there could be some kind of attachments/upgrade system.

Enemy enemies posses different kinds of damage resistances, but the AI is dumb.
More precisely, it feels as it’s absent altogether. So it’s another area for future improvement.

All in all the game could have become a masterpiece. If only the devs had more time and money, or maybe talent.
In the current state I doubt it can reach it's full potential within reasonable timeframe.

TL/DR

Pros:
  • Interesting setting and character concepts
  • Complex attributes and skill system
  • True turn-based combat
  • Decent number of different firearms, cold weapons and magic
Cons:
  • Serious lack of polish. The early access is more like playable alpha.
  • No music and sound effects to speak of
  • Acid colors on battlefield
  • Will be stillborn without significant additional funding

Insert clever insult here
Oh wow, I remember when the devs came here for the first time and asked for testers. I gave the very first "demo" a spin and some feedback. Good to see they haven't given up and it looks million times better than what it was back then.

Now this just needs to be rendered in parallel projection with a little bit of brightness / gamma / contrast retouch and it will look 10 times better. It's a fact that parallelism makes everything look better.

Why Early Access?
“Graywalkers Purgatory was launched on Kickstarter in late 2014. It successfully got funded and our experience there has taught us the value of feedback from the community. This is why we are here in Early Access, to hear what you the fans think of the game, and hopefully improve it from there.

Our goal with the feedback is basically to achieve what could be the most fun we can deliver with the game. We know that we would not be able to make everybody happy but with your feedback, we would know what most of the community thinks, and take that into consideration in our decisions.

In addition to feedback, it also gives us time to fine tune everything about the game so that when we do a full release, the game will really be stable, optimized and will have as few bugs as possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“The reason for our Early Access is to get feedback from the community and then to implement those into the game. Thus, we are trying to be dynamic and flexible with regards to our schedule in order to release a game that will be worthy of your time and money. The closest ballpark we can give is we will try our best to keep Early Access to be around 6-9 months. This is of course not final but it is the target we are aiming for. We definitely want to get the full game to you as soon as we can, but we also want to make sure you get the game you want and deserve. In the end, it will mostly depend on the amount of feedback we get feedback from the community and then to implement it into the game”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The biggest difference from Early Access to the Full Version will be the Single Player Campaign. Though you will be able to play almost all of the features of the game in Early Access, we will not be releasing the Single Player Campaign. We want to keep the epic story we have crafted as a surprise.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Graywalkers Purgatory is currently in Alpha. Manyof the foundations and systems for the game are done though there are still things that need to be worked on and improved.

We do have a road map for our Early Access. When first released, it will feature our "Skirmish Mode" initially. With this mode of play, players can choose from many different kinds of missions that they can get into right away. The focus here is tactical combat. Each mission will have a background story to support it but the missions are not yet designed to be part of a whole campaign.

As Early Access progresses, we will be adding more features, until the game is feature complete.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“At this point in time, we have not yet determined whether the price of Early Access will change upon release of the full game. At the very least, those who do go for Early Access will have more value for their initial support and belief in the game. The people who get Early Access will be given some bonuses in the form of extra content and some freebies which we will reveal very soon.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“We plan to provide everybody many options on how they can deliver their feedback to us. This includes forums, our Kickstarter page (for those who backed), a Facebook page, our Steam Group here and you can even email us directly. We do plan to put a feedback button within the game so you can send us your thoughts right away as you play it. We will let you know once this feature goes live.”

GRAYWALKERS PURGATORY LAUNCH DATE & STEAM KEYS

62ce6a1f1c2162f44430292f11ce4902_original.jpg

EARLY ACCESS RELEASE DATE
Greetings Graywalkers! We are finally releasing the Steam Early Access for Graywalkers Purgatory on January 15, 2020. The game has been approved for release and we can launch now anytime. We were supposed to launch on the 10th but we felt we needed a little bit more time to prepare a few more things needed. For Kickstarter backers though who's reward includes a pre-order of the game, we will be sending you your Steam Beta Keys by the weekend via your email (between 10th-11th). We will be sending the keys to Pre-order backers and PayPal backers as well. Take note these are Beta Keys and not yet the final game keys. The final game keys will be released on the 15th.

GAME IS LIVE
Technically, the game is live. Once you get your beta game keys, the game will appear on your Steam profiles. We dated the release on the 3rd but we only got the approval yesterday. The game is not yet available for sale and that will be on the 15th. Only devs are the ones who have the game active on their accounts. For all intents and purposes though, the game is now live.

CONSTANT UPDATE
In the next few weeks, we will be constantly updating the build on Steam (every other day or so). As you know, the game is in Early Access so it is still a work in progress. Our main goal is to get as much feedback as we can so we can improve the game. We expect there to be issues that you and the other players will find and we intend to fix those as fast as we possibly can. Major content will still come in every monthly update and is separate from daily fixes and add-ons.

MAC & LINUX RELEASE
For our release on Mac and Linux, those will come sometime in February. The biggest problem is we haven't thoroughly tested them so we do not want to release them yet. The plan is to work out as much as the starter issues with the Steam release worked out so that by the time we release for Mac and Linux, it will be more stable.

NON-DRM RELEASE
As for our Non-DRM releases, we are hoping for this to happen very soon too. We are looking for a platform where we can properly release the game to those of you who have requested for Non-DRM. Most probably this will happen in February too as we begin to address these other requirements more properly now that the EA game will be releasing. We have some potential platforms for these already but nothing is set in stone yet. We will hopefully be able to release DRM free via GoG and Humble if things work out.

SUPPORT
We would like to request everybody to please support us by spreading the word about the game to your friends and family. For those who are contented with the game, maybe you can even gift it to your family or friends who like playing video games. We would also like to request everybody to make their reviews for the game on Steam when they can. We ask you to be honest, fair and kind. We welcome constructive criticisms of course and these feedback will be beneficial to us. Do take note that this is still Early Access so look at the potential the game brings and imagine how good it can become with the proper resources.

Please try and join the community on Steam as well. Your presence there will be great and you will form the core of the Steam community that we hope to build from there.

For those who have social media, please follow, like and re-share if possible the content we will be sharing on those sites. I will list them below:
For those who are members of the press here, or know some people in the press, feel free to contact us for additional game keys for testing for your organization. This includes streamers, game reviewers, etc. Message me personally at russell@dreamlordsdigital.com.

FEEDBACK
As we've requested before, we ask for as much feedback from you regarding the game. The feedback can be sent to feedback@dreamlordsdigital.com. It's best if you provide us with as much detailed feedback and suggestions. Feel free to talk about anything. What did you like or what did you not like? Is there anything you hate or something you love? Any information provided will only make the game even better.

MOVING FORWARD
Moving forward, our next update will be in a few weeks after the release. In that update, we will share with you whatever changes and improvements we will be doing, as well as what content to expect in the next major update in February.

THANK YOU!
Lastly, we want to thank all of you, our backers. You helped us make this possible. I know it took us a long while and the journey is still not over, but we hope that what we have so far will excite you and make you look forward in the things to come with regards to the game. Again, thank you to each and everyone one you. I'll see you soon Graywalkers!

Bad animations is a good thing, it means they are focused on gameplay and not shallow cosmetic crap.

First look gameplay of turn-based strategy RPG Graywalkers: Purgatory in Early Access. This video covers the quick missions mode as well as the "Preludes" mode (short campaigns based around a single character in the game). The Preludes section of the video also includes examples of the magic system, and starts around 40 minutes in.

GRAYWALKERS PURGATORY CONTENT UPDATE COMING SOON!
4511ccb6fed75d7539f63c4eeb623bfa30d8e190.jpg

CONTENT UPDATE #1 COMING SOON!

After several months since our launch, we are finally releasing our first major content update. This will be significant as it effectively more than doubles the content of the game from when it was released. We have a tentative release date on August 4, 2020, roughly 1.5 months away.

For months we've been releasing small improvements to the game but now this update will change a lot with your gaming experience. Below are just some of the things you can expect from the content update when it releases:

  • More Missions - we wIll be adding a minimum of at least 10 more missions to the game. Take note that this is the minimum and we are hoping to release more than this. Also, after this release, we will slowly stream new missions every few weeks.

  • Additional Preludes - we will be adding a prelude story and just like with missions, we will slowly stream more prelude story every few weeks.

  • Discover More Lore - through the missions and preludes, we will start revealing more about the world of Graywalkers, its Lore, and the different stories of its inhabitants.

  • Deeper RPG & Conversations - we plan to improve the RPG experience, especially the tabletop RPG experience. We now have a new writer to help us work out the dialogues and story of the game giving them more depth and substance.

  • 7-8 New Graywalkers Released - Release of almost 10 new Graywalkers that will now be playable and available in the game. By the time the update releases, you will have a total of at least 15 Graywalkers to work with. Of course, more will be added as well in the months to come as the planned number of Graywalkers is at the very least 36 (Though are target is 40+ so you have replacements just in case your Graywalkers die)

  • Drone Characters - a new addition to the team are Drones as characters. These upgradable drone platforms will be available to fill out your character slots for the various missions. As you progress, you will find better drones and options for those drones. Like any character, you can customize it with specific gear upgrades such as armor, weapons, and accessories.

  • New Enemies - You will face many new dangers in the form of new creatures and enemies that will be available in the game. This includes other types of demons, corrupted creatures, the Faekind, and

  • New Locations - the preludes and the new missions will introduce new and interesting locales such as Hellzones, enchanted ruined cities, stormlands, fortified settlements, abandoned railways and more.

  • More Weapons & Armor - As you get deeper into the game, you will slowly discover the hundreds of weapons in the game and its variants. Not only that, but we've added also new weapons to the list including relics of the past that have power.

  • More Consumable Items & Accessories - we've added more items that you can use in the game that will affect your characters such as potions, drinks, food, medical items, and more. In addition, you can customize your character with new accessories that will improve your character's abilities.

  • Streamlined List of New and Improved Abilities - We've improved the ability list and streamlined it. We've taken out some of the unbalanced ones and included new ones that will give a better dimension to your characters.

Aside from content, we are also releasing new and improved features with the update. These include some of the following below:

  • New & Improved Audio and Music - This was one of our weakest points before but we've made an effort to improve it. We've got new tools to help us create better audio for the game. Also, since we've also fixed the volume issue in our past patches, you can control if you want the music we put in blaring or just blending int the background.

  • Improved Quality of 3D Models - We've heard comments before of bad models in the game so we've taken it into consideration and started removing all the very low poly models and use only the mid to high-quality poly models. We've also improved the PBR texturing of the models. It's not all done yet but you will start to see significant improvements in their quality compared to before.

  • Improved Combat AI - we've improved the AI of the non-player characters, especially the enemies. They are now more challenging and now have more options at their disposal in challenging you.

  • Overwatch Feature - This is a feature that's been planned a long time but had not been implemented. Finally, it will be implemented into the game and it will change how combat goes significantly. It will give you more strategic options in combat as you fight through the challenges ahead.

  • Linux Version - Our Linux version will also be released before or during the content update. This is actually ready but we're trying to test it a bit more before it goes live. Our Mac version is still undergoing finalization and testing so we're not sure if it will be included with this update. Regardless, this will follow very soon though.

Take note that these are not the only things going into the game. We have more planned and if it doesn't reach the content update, it will follow in succeeding minor updates.

Now that you know what's to come, we encourage everybody to grab a copy now for yourself if you don't have one yet and convince your friends and family to do so. We currently have an ongoing summer sale on Steam. Avail yourself of a significant 30% percent discount and grab a copy at a very affordable price.

    Buy here now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1003370/Graywalkers_Purgatory/

Thank you and see you in our next update Graywalkers!!!

Content Update Moved to August 21
1ae9027dcc097e37e3f777cc631c67e5f54b8fcd.jpg

We wanted to announce that we are moving the release of the new Content Update #1 for Graywalkers Purgatory to August 21, 2020. We felt that we needed to do a bit more testing, balancing and polishing before we get the update in your hands.

Despite the delay though, we are excited to get the game in your hands when it does. The introduction of the Overwatch feature in the game is pretty good and we've even improved it beyond other Overwatch features from other games. Characters can now get abilities that improve their capabilities with regards to overwatch. By default, overwatch triggers when any movement or attack is made by an opponent within range. The new abilities now affect how well you function with or against Overwatch.

Also, we're just polishing and testing the missions we have. We will be including about 10-12 missions with the content update but we have much more ready to follow in the months to come. We are hoping to release 1-2 new missions every month at the minimum after the content update. This brings the mission count to at least 20 missions in the game

In addition, the extra time will allow us to introduce a few more nice small features like an improved Inventory system, highlighting for interactive objects, and some minor improvements that we did not get to mention but have already included.

So we apologize for this delay but we promise it will be worth the wait. Thank you again to all the Graywalkers out there who bought the game and continue to support us.
