Such a waste of time and energy.
Such a waste of time and energy.
From a visual standpoint, perhaps. There is some value in having an more immersive perspective, but it's all about getting the BG saga to use the 3.5E rule-set. That's what we all want.
This is the most useless waste of talent I have ever seen in the modding community. I weep, comrades, for a giant piece of shit is about to be born.
If any developer will ever read this - we need MORE hand-crafted backgrounds, not LESS. And LESS generic 3D-modelled garbage. There still isn't a single 3D RPG that came close to emulating the beauty and atmosphere of the Icewind Dale games; the surreal world of Planescape: Torment; or the fable-like feel of Disco Elysium.

Ugh, NWN2 looks like ass. It kinda looks like early CGI porn.

Yes this is a huge waste of talent but not because of the ugly graphics.
It's a huge waste of talent because BG is one of the most popular game series ever and everyone here has already played through the games at least seven times. What's the point of this? Why not make a new original game instead? Why put all this effort into porting a still perfectly playable game into a worse engine?
Such a waste of time and energy.

BG1 Reloaded was done competently. With that as practice, I look forward to seeing what they can do with BG2. It still seems incredibly ambitious, but that preview of Suldanesselar is better than I would have predicted. It'll be curious about how they will pull of locations like The Temple of Lathander or the Planar Sphere.
Enticing as this might be, I wish someone would revive the Icewind Gate project. Too bad the source code was lost. That's one that actually deserved an EE, which would have made it ripe for Icewind gate.
Ah, at last we have an answer to the question of what an RPG is - a game with Good Graphics™! Well done, Codex!
