Checks out
nah, he right

Yea, some of those suggestions sound like neat QoL improvements while the others kinda go against the spirit of Monster Hunter, IMO. Like merging the gathering hub into the main hub makes sense for a World sequel if they're going to do away with separate quest lines for SP/MP entirely but the rest is kinda meh

If I liked Dragon's Dogma will I like this game?

I'm asking this purely because Capcom made both LOL

You should try it to see, but it's nothing like Dragon's Dogma. They're both superb games but Monster Hunter completely lacks the adventuring/RPG elements of Dragon's Dogma, instead favoring a more methodical skill-based combat where it's just you and up to three other people typically up against a single boss-type monster with minimal trash mobs. Can be soloed for the most part with only a couple of the endgame quests requiring you to actually socialize unless you're highly skilled. World is a good place to start out but it does have a bit of decline in mechanics from the old games, though there's lots of QoL upgrades as well though you might not note the difference as a new player. Still, it's worth mentioning because the earlier entries are still well worth playing and while World is a game you can easily sink a hundred+ hours into (more if you have the expansion) the previous entries are potentially even longer.

One day I'm going to get rid of these tags and people are going to realize just how right I am about these types of things. It's easier for some people to see a tag and let that formulate their opinion before even reading, but right is right. Monster Hunter World shouldn't exist. If you have a switch for whatever reason, Generic-Giant-Spider, try monster hunter generations Ultimate. Other than that, stick to dragon's dogma (which is a great game) and hope a sequel comes one day.

The controls and fighting mechanics are nothing like Dark Souls, atmosphere is nothing like DS, writing and story telling are nothing like DS, art and monster design, level design are nothing like DS, it's like, completely different. Sorry if you're too retarded to see that.

99% of what makes DS good is smashing monsters. If that didn't work as it works rest of the game wouldn't matter.

MH though has much better mechanics and combat. Though without beating first DeS i wouldn't get into game as i wouldn't really understand what is good about it.

I honestly don't get the comparison to Souls games at all, there really is no similarities between the two series beyond surface-level themes such as 'man in armor fights large beast'. What the hell, let's just say that Monster Hunter is the Dark Souls of the 4 player monster hunting genre and leave it at that, if we're gonna keep calling apples oranges

There are few games with slow methodical combat, and I went for the most known one. This nerdage could have been avoided if I'd said that the combat is closer to DS than it is to DD, and leave it there.

If you play MH with Air Specials and hookshots, speedrunning the monsters with 4 friends and whatever great for you. I'm not good at the game despite having played every release since MHFU. I play solo, even the high rank Guild missions, so for me it's sloooooow to take down monsters.

that's really not the point, though. I also play solo and not once have I ever felt that Monster Hunter was in any way similar to Soulsborne. Also in all fairness to you, this is not the first time someone's made this comparison, if you look throughout the thread there are many other times that someone asks 'Is MH right for me' and many other times that someone replies with some variation of 'yea this is like Dark Souls'. I've never understood this point of reference since in my mind Souls and MH are two completely separate genres and have very little in common, so advertising MH as 'like Dark Souls' might end up misleading people.

Did you brain atrophy ? Multiple people explained you like you are 5 that MH is very similar to DS because it relies on same type of methodical skill based combat (though MH does it even better).
Multiple people even told you this is basically DS boss rush mode.

Yes rest of design is different but principle upon which it lies is the same.

This is why people say that if you like DS you should try MH. I was like this. Didn't like much MH at start but after it i managed to get into MH and love it.

I didn't 'brain atrophy', I'm simply failing to see how MH combat is 'very similar' to Dark Souls combat beyond this surface level superficial veneer of 'they're both methodical and skill-based' that people keep citing. What's so similar? You don't fish for backstabs in MH. Parries are almost non-existent, save LS shenanigans and guard points on the CB/S&S. There's nearly zero combat vs humanoids, so no battles like Artorias, Fume Knight, etc which are the bosses you typically think of when you think of great Souls boss fights. So what's that leave for the 'DS boss rush'? the likes of Old Iron King or Chaos Bed? I suppose the closest boss I could think of being anywhere close to MH-like is perhaps the tiger from Dark Souls 2 DLC I guess but that's a rare sort of fight. Not to mention Souls has deeper RPG influences with the combat being partially stat-based and your character being able to outlevel just about anything in the game while in Monster Hunter the few stats you do have are based on what you're using for gear and you can't powerlevel your way through content like you can in Souls if you grind enough.

I also feel like categorizing Monster Hunter as 'Dark Souls boss rush' is a disservice to Monster Hunter as a whole, to be frank.

I dunno. I guess I'm just 'nerdraging' because I feel like Souls and MH are two entirely different beasts and using one to recommend the other will likely put off newcomers to either series since they really don't play anything like each other. I don't want people going into MH expecting Souls and vice versa, and then being disappointed and throwing the game down just because it wasn't what they were expecting especially since both series are really sweet.

That's all there is. Don't overthink it.

Parries are almost non-existent
I've finished DS1-3 without parrying once. Was it harder? probably. My runs looked a bit more like how hopping Lancer plays in MH. Except with Caestus and Ghost Armor set.

so no battles like Artorias, Fume Knight, etc which are the bosses you typically think of when you think of great Souls boss fights.
I didn't do those battles differently than any other boss. None of the samurai knight duel parry wankery, nor I think of them as the best DS fights. Because we played differently.

If MH combat is similar to DS, then DS is similar to gothic. I mean, wtf? They are completely different in their nature.

However, I wanted to ask about other thing. Kinda late to the party, but it's only me, who are infuriated with alatreon elemental dps check? It's like MH transforms Into some shitty parody of MMO.
I'm certainly afraid for fatalis possible new "mechanics" and future of the series.

I decided to give this game a go despite it not being like DD, if only because I have some friends that play it and have been irritating the shit out of me to play it.

It's actually fairly fun once you get past the first two or three hours. At first I had no idea what the fuck I was doing or what anything meant but eventually something clicked and I went from thinking it was average to pretty fun. Still working through the base game and just got into higher rank monster hunts. I've been playing entirely solo since the one time I did a quest with friends they pretty much stomped the monster in like a minute and I felt like the cameraman in a gangbang porno, and to be honest I actually like it solo more than grouping. It's a nice game to chill and kill time with... does this continue into the expansion or will I be forced to group up? Keep in mind one of my IRL gamer friends has an annoying as FUCK gamer girlfriend so I am a bit more lenient towards in-game masochism than most people.

Also why no gigantic insects/spiders for monsters? It's all like, lizards and dragons and shit. I want some nasty bitches.

not in MHW. one of the reason (and my main reason) old fans critisize MHW is the lack of monster variety as until iceborne, it only had 4 skeleton types of monster (the doggy quadripeds, drakes with back legs and wings, raptors, and elder dragons)

previous MH games, most notably 4 and mh XX has more unusual monsters like nescrylla or seltas

Basically you are able to solo everything with any weapon type, as it always were in the series, except some "special" group based content (such as ancient leshen, behemoth, safi, kulve, unless you are some meta try hard or speedrunner).
Even fatalis was beatable solo in MHfreedom, despite being group content.

As for nasty thing, for some reason they didn't make they appearance in the world.

Okay I don't know if I spiked my drink a couple nights back but I swear to God I saw a Cactuar in the wild. A Cactuar. The stupid fuck from Final Fantasy games. It even hit me with thousands of needles.

So when you say Behemoth is that some MH creation or is this all a result of a Final Fantasy cross-over of some sort?

Yup, there is crosscontent from FF. Imho initial Kula-Ya-Ku quest from it is fucking ton of fun. Too bad it fucks up astera music once you finish it. I didn't like astera tune but FF one is even worse.

Still nothing beats first MH game village tune:

Is the Powercharm worth it? I don't have tons of money but it seems like one of those decent pick-ups since it says you just have to carry it in your inventory to gain its benefits. How much damage does this passively give or is it a gold trap?
