It's written by a deeply depressed, drug addled college kid from Eastern Europe who fantasizes about Communism and what could have been, if only things were done a little differently.
So if you're into college humour, Rick & Morty, hipster sarcasm/irony, nihilism, drugs, depression, degeneracy, vulgarity, etc. etc. then it might appeal to you.
That's why so many game journalists slurp it up, it appeals to them emotionally and it's written by a fellow comrade. So they are more than happy to boost the signal "10/10 RPG of the decade, best writing ever!".
This is Zoe Quinn's depression quest on a bigger budget, or Grand Theft Auto without the fun.
Another one of those dimwits. Muh GOMMUNISM ruining everything.
What's the problem exactly?
The writer is a hack who romanticises Communism. He's not a hack because he's a Communist. He's a hack because he's a hack.
Gayming journos are largely cat food-eaters who also romanticise Communist/Marxist/Socialist ideals. Yes, all of them at the same time. Yes, they're different, and no, it doesn't matter.
So when they see a pro-Commie writer make a video game, anything he does will automatically be good and praised to the high heavens. It's that simple. His game will never be attacked for sexism or racism, despite being more sexist or racist than any game made by Warhorse Studios, Golden Era Games, or Rockstar Games. Why? because he plays for the same "team".
I don't understand your disagreement with my original post. Unless you're one of those mongoloids who doesn't believe journalist are capable of bias, spinning narratives, or lying to protect their own and helping them profit/succeed, while at the same time sabotaging those they view as "ideological enemies".
Are we just gonna pretend the writer isn't a Communist and the journalists don't love him because of it? Fuck off.
I'll keep it short 'cause I'm going to sleep.
NOBODY romanticizes communist ideals. Just because not everybody is a cryptofascist to whom communism=Satan=transsexuals=taxes and doesn't feel a compulsive need to tell everyone how evil bolsheviks were the moment he hears "communism" doesn't mean he has a faintest idea about communism, much less that they support it.
The writer doesn't play for any team and the game does not try to make a political statement nor is supportive of communist ideology. It's just what your brain tells you is going on when you don't get what the game is about. You react quite similarly to people praising the game, just instead of praising it for being deep when they didn't understand it, you ascribe it to some vomit created by whatever political movement you dislike just because you detected a word you don't like inside of it. Your understanding is superficial, if we're being generous, and you twisted whatever you did managed to understand into something to reinforce your preexisting conviction that the world is dominated by evil commies who have no taste.
Just because the game depicts sexism or racism or communism doesn't mean it's making a statement in favour of those. The sole purpose of political motifs in this game is to mock the main character for trying to hide his broken self from the world and more so, from himself behind some ideology he doesn't really care about be it monarchism, socialism or whatever. It's only your willingness to find a political statement there that allows you to do it and THAT is what the problem is exactly.
