What will future RPGs be like?

I’ve been out of the loop for a while and am wondering what some of the latest trends are. Where do you see the genre heading?

A disgusting mix between Witcher 3's open world bloat, Diablo 3's skinner box grind and itemization, Borderlands 3's diversity quota / and atrocious humor, and Fallout 4's way to create characters (aka, we are gods without any weaknesses) plus its dialogue system.

based on current trends, in ten years it'll be a 50/50 split between hentai mobile phone games and epic cinematic hiking simulators

Yes except there will be no split. 50 years from now all entertainment will be queer animal-kin hentai mobile games.

None of these are RPGs, though
They aren't now, boyo. Just wait until the 2030 RPG Codex top-100. :smug:

Future is easy to see : Cyberpunk 2077 , Elderscrolls 6, starfield , those game will be ported at nauseum on new generation of consoles ,with very little visual gains . They will charge for 80 euros on ps5-6 and 10 euro per month on gamepass for for xbox s serie plus X, for the next 10 years .
On pc once a blue moon a very deep rpg from an indie . Another game from larian , BG4 or even other settings , as BG3 will have considerable success, then sven will sell larian to microsoft for 5+ billions .

[...] fake boobies

That's a thing you will see less and less in future games. And if you see them, they will be attached to fucking monstrosities like this one:

Future of RPGs is tied to future of Western Civilization. Jewish Bankers, Ayyyliens and European Elites are throwing dice and having lot of fun

Oof, this is grim. Thanks for the replies.

I’ve noticed that D&D seems to be getting more and more popular, and 5E hasn’t changed too much from 3.5 and prior. Anyone think the growth of D&D culture could help the RPG genre in a good way? A return to its roots? Or is it really going to be hentai racoon girl porn plus... whatever that picture is?

There's Cleve's upcoming post atomic rpg, but by the time it's released we might be playing it as an utopian escapist fantasy.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
What we want:

The combat of Knights of the Chalice 2, the exploration of Subnautica, the conversation system and interior monologue of Disco Elysium, and the level of bug-free polish of a high-budget JRPG.

D&D being popular is a fad. Wotc released data from their app for managing games and 90% of games never make it past level 5, 50% never make it past level 2.
