Well, which is it? Or which ones are good at least. Can be real-time or rtwp, or whatever.

Posted this in RPG discussion since I assume most party-based games are RPGs, but, other genres def count.

UFO Aftershock with very good RTwP combat, gunporn, strategic global management, character management. Setting is Earth post apocalypse.

UFO Afterlight is AS getting improved, but cut the Earth gunporn and turn to alien gunporn. Setting is on Mars.

These shits are pure party based combat game and dont expect much in the way of story and plot twist. They are there, they serve the purpose, but that's it. These games aint no sissy RPG.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Bubbles In Memoria
Freedom Force, mainly because of verticality, flying, physics interactions and basic attacks that can have some serious knockback.
I consider it the best RTwP that I've come across.

ARMA 3. Operation Flashpoint/ARMA games in general. Bonus points if it's a mission/mod where you can switch and directly control a bot when needed. There're roguelike missions that generate AO and tasks on the go on any map while also providing an array of tools(guns, vehicles, helis) to approach said tasks. Doesn't get better than this.

Fallout Tactics in not-TB mode too. I dont always use Real time mode, but it do serve its purpose in certain situations.

Might and Magic 8. But it doesnt have that much punch compared to UFO Aftershock/light.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the Codex's top RPG of 2012 2013 2016

Although action-based, combat in Dragon's Dogma is nonetheless RPG-like in that it has less emphasis on the player's skills versus character stats/abilities and in that it features a party of 4 characters providing synergy. Combat is satisfyingly tactile in a manner that's rare even among action games; you can be knocked down or held by enemies but also grip smaller enemies in turn, be borne aloft by harpy-like creatures, set enemies on fire, etc. Monster design enhances combat and particularly excels with the larger monsters (cyclopes, ogres, griffins, hydras, chimeras, and more), where teamwork is invaluable in defeating them (and it's always fun to crawl up the large monsters, if you aren't playing a mage/sorcerer).

Swat 2 is pretty solid, but a little janky at times. The AI when you're not controlling the officers kind of sucks. By the way, Deadstate should've used something like that instead of the retarded turnbase. Anyways, rtwp>turnbase, always has been.

After a bit of consideration this the game that I arrived at too as having the best action party based RPG combat. I would add that if you are a mage, alternatively you can stand on a hill whilst your melee warriors engage the enemy and you can cast magic in a tactical manner from a distance without the issues that you get in other action RPGs.
