We continue working on quests and mechanics, aiming to start beta-testing the first 3 locations in Dec and release on Early Access in March next year.

Now the AI can 'see' and open doors, which will make the game of hide n seek more fun, at least for the AI. We added the first non-human enemy – a turret. You probably saw one in the combat demo, but that was a lifeless 3D model. Now they have stats (for different types), animations (rotate and fire, take damage, etc), and combat behavior. The turrets use proper ammo (not the magical unlimited ammo), so the faster you kill one, the more ammo you'd loot. If it's a friendly turret, you can share your own ammo with it to make sure it won't run out of bullets too soon.

Since you're here for some screens, let's illustrate multiple solutions in combat-heavy scenarios and show our new turret. As you probably know, the starting town's conflict is between Jonas representing freedom, Deadwood-style, that some might call lawlessness and Braxton representing law & order that some might call gubment telling folks what to do and – to add insult to injury – charging tax for the privilege.

It won't be much of a spoiler to tell you that the conflict ends up in a shootout, but what if open assault isn't your style? Then (upon request) you'll be tasked with preventing the locals from coming to Jonas' aid while Braxton's forces do all the heavy lifting. So that's two very different options already but the design miracles don't stop there.

Once you go down that path you get 3 new options: diplomacy (which in turn branches into relying on Impersonate to con the local yokels and Persuasion to convince them that resistance is futile), combat (in case you change your mind and decide to fight after all), and a mix of thievery and jury-rigging. There's an old turret there that's been stripped for parts. You can explore the nearby area while you have time (Lockpick will help a lot here), find the parts and some ammo, and use your Computer skill to fix the targeting module.

^ the last option won't appear unless you fixed the turret. Let's go with 1.

Now let's go back to the beginning and pick option 3 (fire up the turret)

And finally some combat:

That's it for today. Next month we'll show you the Hydroponics and hopefully announce the upcoming beta-test. Stay tuned.

Digging the new Dialogue UI.

Disposition meter looks familiar. Is that skill bar underneath that a dice roll estimation or a way to convey the learn-by-doing boost you can get?

Those floodlights really need to cast shadows behind those models. Did you turn those off, are the lightmaps baked, or what's happening there?

It's an animated bar showing the skill increase from using the dialogue option. Blue is your skill level, yellow the increase.

Yes.

Joking aside, no lighting pass at all yet.

I recall a post on how disposition works and also what attempting a check you don't quite meet the requirements for does (the yellow impersonate 5 one in the screenshot) with examples, but can't find it. Anyone got a link?

What happens if I have neither Impersonate 4 nor Streetwise 4 in this scene?
There are very few cases when failing a conversation check leads straight to combat. In most cases, including this one, your responses create an 'impression' reflected in the disposition meter. If your skill level is low you'll create a weaker (or even negative) impression and in the end might fail to convince the person you're talking to.

I only hope that you won't sell yourself to NVIDIA and will support AMD too. There were some huge problems on AMD GPUs last time and NVIDIA is a scummy company. Not to mention that 6800 XT and 6900 XT are way better choices than 3080 and 3090.

We're too small a studio to pick and choose GPUs. We support what the engine supports. That problem with AMD was caused by Torque's new version we updated to (obviously it didn't advertise built-in AMD problems) and we're forever grateful to AMD developers for helping us fix it.

After the bad taste left by cybercuck 2077, I need some incline. How is the progress for the EA so far btw? Any chance for a last minute december release or only next year?

Will there be an end of year update or is there nothing noteworthy to talk about since the last one?
Yes.

No release in Dec. Still aiming to release on EA in March (it all depends on how much extra work we'll have to put in between the beta start and EA release, we hope not that much). Right now the focus is on the frogs (the only creature we'll need for the EA), meaning animations and programming as the frogs do a lot more than just attack (poison, mind attacks, going for the throat when the character is down). Oscar's scripting the remaining quests, doing the final battle now which has many variables with the same characters plus the alternative quests bypassing the final fight altogether (for the talkers). I'm expanding the conversations to present the setting properly. It's going well so far, hopefully you guys will like it.

It was possible to know in advance what kind of game this would be. I didnt download it even for free from torrents. Not in this game's target audience.
