What happened with the money? They outsourced everything to scandinavian freelancers?
Probably just a bunch of Swabian Landsknechte.

This company should go down.

Most expensive game in history of gaming. Lowest salaries in business. Unfinished.

What happened with the money? They outsourced everything to scandinavian freelancers?
Advertising of course. And no, this wasn't the most expensive game in history.

Adjusted for inflation, Modern Warfare 2 is the most expensive game ever made. Mainly because its marketing budget was 400% the cost of making the game. Then there's GTA V with clost to a 1:1 split, The Old Republic's 200 million price tag, Halo 2 because of inflation adjustment, this year's Avengers game that crashed with no survivors, Destiny 1 that was dropped by Bungie like both their last names were Clapton, Dead Space 2 and Final Fantasy VII again thanks to inflation and then we hit Cyberpunk 2077.

But your "marketing cost" is missing for Cyberpunk 2077 on that flawed list.

Maybe thats why you're not aware that CP 2077 trumps everything on that list with $314 million budget.

So, its inevitable CD Projekt will be bought and soon.

Cyberpunk 2070's sale and fallout will be the deciding factors.
Cyberpunk 2077 underwhelming critical reception does not change anything - it already made back all the money that CDPR invested in it during first 24 hours of sales.

And CDPR does not own intellectual properties for Witcher or Cyberpunk - so buying CD-Projekt will get you some chairs, computers, pretty pissed employees, and business talents of Kiciński.

Buying Bethesda was one-time thing - Microsoft was not allowed to buy TickTock and had money on hand - and was planning to heavily invest in GamePass. If Todd & Co. will leave tomorrow, Microsoft will still have Doom, Fallout and Elder Scrolls - and can make as many Xbox / GamePass exclusive sequels as they like.

We all know this "underwhelming critical reception" is only because game journalists are transgender activists, and they're angry at the game because of how it portrays trans.

All this talk of bugs is bullshit. All RPGs are buggy on release.

Cyberpunk has a 90 on Metacritic right now. Granted that’s because they didn’t send out console versions for review, but that sure as shit isn’t a flop critical wise.

How do you justify such ridiculous cost for a game form the point of an investor? Does spending more money make the game somehow better at earning money? Alll I know is that real normal people prefer to play simple low graphical inttensity games their old notebooks, aging consoles and phones can run and you can make over 100 of those with the budget Cyberpunk 2077 got.

This remembers me when Fallout 4 came out. Almost all journos rated it 10/10 while a lot of gamers trashed it on metacritics. Now the situation is inverted.

The same thing happens when western countries funnel money to developing countries, or when patrons donate to websites - it lines the corrupt leadership's pockets instead of funding the actual project.

Down to 89, and it's based on 58 reviews. To give perspective, other AAA games have 80 - 100 reviews so expect the score to drop a bit more or stabilize around 88 - 90.

The reviews are worthless anyway. Everyone that gave this game in its current state a 9 or 10 should be lined up against a wall.

Cyberpunk is their bestselling game and paid for itself with it's 7 mil. preorders. If they patch it up fanboys will forgive/forget and their next game will sell as well if not better.

Don't see anyone buying them soon.

Total cost was probably around $200 million. Preorders alone crushed development and marketing cost and the firm is clearly in the green. They have to fix the game because the potential profits from DLC and especially The Witcher 4 are huge.

Tencent. GOG is already sucking Chinese dicks.
giphy.gif

Its always a bad day for the industry when the platforms bend to censorship. This is in spite of how hard we've fought especially in Australia to keep censorship out.
We're just lucky there's big libraries of their releases that have already been archived so even if something were to happen to GOG the preservation efforts are staying.
But if Tencent had their way everything would be a live service and require an Epic sign in. Even their dev tools do! hence why I'll never use Quixel ever again. There are better tools on perpetual licenses that don't require installing malware.

Activision will make a move on CDPR after they finish necroing Blizzard’s rotten corpse.

The Witcher 3 is getting it’s third console generation release. If all goes according to plan, yet unborn kids will play CP2077 on their Playstation 7.

There is news articles that it costs 300+million dollars. So 8 million preorders is not enough for breakeven.

They would need to make about 650-750 million dollars to break even.

It was 300 mil including marketing budget, dumbo. Game's development budget without marketing cut was around 120 mil. You probably used movie standards, where they don't include marketing budget in the cost.
40$ avg. x 8 mil= 320 mil In case you botched math.

Maybe the Codex Capitalists can put some funds together and buy a controlling stake in CDPR?
