Massive incline! Wind of Time was really good, even with the shitty machine translation. It brings back some cut plot elements from the original games and actually does it pretty well. The only issue I had with it was occasional crashes in the bar area, probably from the game's 32-bit engine running out of available memory.

Usually people JUST die in this age, but in this year they all died from covid of course.
For people in Russia? Yes, absolutely, dying at 66 is normal, even old. For people in normal countries however, 66 is an unusually young age to die. Just making a clarification so you can see how your culture affects discussion with people from normal countries.

EDIT: I said "culture" when talking about Russian vatnik. Just to be clear, in this case I meant "culture" in the broadest sense possible, i.e. what even some apes we observe have traces of, not in the sense of a real culture as understood by normal societies.

unfortunately the revised english translation for wind of time is a bit.. spotty, but it's a few steps up compared to the original machine translation

By the way, one of the reasons I am angry with the vatnik cuck above shitting on the memory of Sergei Ivanov is that Sergei created a world combining the unique blend of the results of the doomed soviet ambitions, the post-soviet destruction and Eastern-European desperation. Perhaps few people remember the story of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, but the idea of Zone being created due to an experiment interfering with the noosphere in order to make the world perfect and instead creating a hell on Earth is actually uniquely post-soviet Eastern-Eropean. Even the mention of the noosphere is uniquely Eastern-European. The cultural context and specifics of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as inspired by both Strugatsky's Roadside Picnic and the post-soviet destruction we faced is something that cannot be described to those who haven't lived through it. The game was perfect in tone and story. I am disgusted that a vatnik cuck could insult someone who managed to understand and critique what we faced in the 90s and what we are facing now so vividly and eloquently, especially through this medium. In fact, I would say that combining Strugatsky's "Roadside Picnic" with the Chernobyl catastrophy is a flash of genius, even outside games as a medium. This is why the comment of this cuck Fenix simply shows that vatniks are scum unworthy of respect.

Sp, people never die in your country in 66? Hm, Ithink I should visit your country the day before I hit 66 lol.

I making this clarification too to show how your ignorancy affect discussion too.

Sergei created a world combining the unique blend of the results of the doomed soviet ambitions, the post-soviet destruction and Eastern-European desperation.

That Sergei mostly plagiarased Strugatskiy brothers work in the first place. The rest was logical for the time where game was made - society collapced due joy of capitalism we tasted, so it was only logical to crossbreed total collapce of post-USSR country with "Roadside picnic".

I reinstalled CoP to check some stuff and I noticed that some of the DX11 mode options are missing, tessellation is now only a simple on/off switch, and the contact hardening shadows option is completely gone. When did this happen? I assume it's probably the latest patch version that I didn't have back then when playing, but why would they do that?

That's odd. I replayed CoP last month and it still had the DX11 options.

Maybe it's not detecting your card as being DX11 compatible for some reason?

You could probably force it to DX11 by editing the user.ltx worst case.

How is the Gunslinger Mod compared to others? Does it make shooting a better experience or better guns or what?

the animations are sublime, and it has some features that are absent from most mods (PiP optics, working lasers and lights and so on). Yes it makes shooting feel very good I would say.

The problem is not that the weapons are not good. They are excellent. The problem is that its only on plain old vanilla COP, which i find to be quite boring. If someone wanted to play through COP for COP's sake again, I would say the gunslinger pack is a superb way to do it. It's not missing much from the original arsenal now.

dunno, it's still far from complete: where's LR300, G36, Groza, Browning Hi-Power, ...?

the upgrades are interesting, but sometimes wonky (SVU with 95% recoil reduction, and yes the unique one fires full auto?) so that needs some work as well

and while the models and animations are professionally done, i get the feeling they lack an interest in mechanics (that would lead to even having somebody think about them or work on them); i'm not asking for milsim accuracy, but damn: the Sig rifles were added, and the Strelok's carbine version of course does more damage - the same weapon, the same ammo, but the variant with a much shorter barrel hits harder - why? because it's cooler? that's pure anime-tier logic

i still find myself playing it more often then i expected, just to derp around and shoot stuff with new tacticool boomsticks

I love where gunslinger is headed but I think it's still pretty rough.

You have horrific optimization, super powerful burers, and a bunch of missing guns. Personally I'm planning to pop my gunslinger cherry once it's a bit more stable and they've done a few passthroughs on balancing everything.

In the meantime I looked into OWR3 for a Vanilla+ experience and I hated the author incorporating a bunch of extraneous shit in a weapon mod - with no indication of doing so (i.e. engine hacks, aggressive bandits, weapon damage completely changed). Meanwhile his SoC version doesn't do ANY of this.

Really like the weapon models & animations though - so I spent an embarrassingly long time stripping out all of the cruft.

Behold: OWR3 LITE - everything kept as vanilla as possible with the exception of graphics and animations.

I've almost finished my CoP playthrough using it - and aside from an issue where I periodically have to delete my shaders cache (wherever your appdata is located) to get the game to load - it's pretty good.

I also want to figure out a way to made the unique weapons' scopes & silencers detachable (not being able to use Strelok's SIG 550 as a true CQB weapon is awful).

Running with OWR3 Lite - AN3Lite (good call on that, Cretin) - and Absolute Structures and am having a blast. It's amazing how much of a difference the first 2 make in prettying the game up.

Conversely i am 10 hours into yet another NLC7 playthrough in spite of its AWFUL translation.

After hearing you giving it praises and BoredGunner's "ballslurping" of this mod I went down a rabbit hole of wanting to play it but making a better machine translation.

The current version uses a suboptimal translation algorithm, so I tried the newest version of Google's translate and found it was a definitive improvement. I also translated less text at a time to avoid "polluting the context."

After comparing a few files - it looks like this is definitely a better translation but still pretty rough around the edges. It wasn't playtested though - so there might be some weird shit (I have no idea if the Ukrainian stuff was properly translated).

Problem was the game wouldn't start so I probably corrupted the file - fixable but I'd have to make a few passes over my script.

I threw the work away because I decided I'd wait for a full-on hand translation, but if there's interest I'll try to get my machine translation up in the next week or so.

The community is always interested in a better translation man.

the c-con discord would be a good place to go, they have a lot of people active in modding and translating. https://discord.gg/kH94cFjR

Nice job, i may have to play through with your version because I played through with OWR3 a long time ago and IIRC some of his edits just fucking broke the game. I remember pripyat being literally EMPTY of a-life except for tushkano. It's also really ANNOYING when people claim to be doing some vanilla shit and then they do stuff like edit the damages or the accuracy because of some halfbaked idea they have about "realism" (the variety of which they got from hollywood movies and low TTK fpses, not actual reality)

whenever some reddit fag is all like "oh you LIKE bullet sponges?" I feel like

It's amusing because the OWR devs always claimed their mod was solely a weapon graphical upgrade and used to throw shade at the Arsenal Overhaul devs for changing more than weapons.

Sounds like they are doing the exact same thing.
