One trend I've noticed just browsing upcoming games is that many publishers seem to be refraining from tagging every game as a RPG. It could be indicative of the genre falling out of flavor with the mainstream.
Also, the number of games that were originally slated for 2020 and got delayed is just staggering. If all these companies manage to get their games out before going out of business, 2021 might be a year of plenty. Anyway, here's my small selection:
King Arthur: Knight's Tale looks interesting. I'm a sucker for anything Arthurian.
Croteam has a hand on developing
The Hand of Merlin. Maybe the Arthurian setting is making a comeback in 2021?
Dark Envoy is the new game from the makers of Tower of Time.
Shores Unknown seems like it could surprise in a good way.
It's hard to figure out what
4 Minutes to the Apocalypse is going to be, but I like the premise.
I highly doubt it will get released this year, but
Project Witchstone clearly aims to please grognards.
Australian post apocalyptic setting is always a plus in my book, so I'll keep an eye out for
Broken Roads.
I also found a couple of obvious rip offs that are so absurd they are worth a mention. Like this celulite packed low budget version of Nier Automata called
Outcast in Mars. And this game that seemingly is ripping off the Tolkien estate and Wizards of the Coast simultaneously, shamelessly titled
The Fellowship Saga. The description mentions both turn-based party combat and first-person action. Lastly, there's
Within the Cosmos, a game that seems to have lifted the gun models straight from Halo and has some screenshots that look suspiciously similar to The Outer Worlds. All three scream asset flip.
