The only way I can see open world working in Star Wars is an urbanscape or maybe some kind of newly discovered resource on planet (like the zone in STALKER). The only way Star Wars restricts leaving characters from leaving the area or going wherever they want is duty or hostile forces.

Doesn't SWTOR count as open world?

I'd say no, but most people think of Witcher 3 as an open world game despite it being split into 4-5 sections. They could do a handful of planets with a quarter of an Assassin's Creed in each one.
I can understand the argument in the case of SWTOR (or TOW for that matter) since there are transitions between planets, the planets otherwise following the open world format (particularly in the case of some larger worlds in SWTOR). On the other hand, considering TW3 to not be open world because of 'sections' though is quite silly. By that logic, Far Cry 3 isn't open world either since there are two distinct islands which constitute clearly defined 'sections' (likewise with the three sections in Far Cry 5 that have distinct designs pertaining to the three antagonists acting as 'bosses' within them).

I mean, I'm saying it is considered an open world game, so I agree with you. If the question is "does announcing it as an open world game mean it's on one planet?" then I would say the answer is no, because of the Witcher 3 example.

Also I'd say KotOR not being an open world game is just as much about its story structure and linear aspects to its exploration as it is the levels being divided up. Interesting follow-up in that vein: is Dragon Age Origins an open world game?

SWTOR, not KotOR. And I sort of understand where you are coming from, but I think that your concept of a 'proper' open world game is too puritanical. Different sections being designed with a particular character level in mind or the plot being geographically linear doesn't breach the open world format as long as the world itself is large enough to go off the beaten path. And you can certainly do that in SWTOR and there is ample space beyond that which would have been required by the quests (not to mention that the game provides side activities that require exploring outside of the quest zones - from collecting datacrons to finding & killing unique enemies for achievements).

They're probably just going to shit out a Cyberpunk 2077 clone within the next 2-3 years by reviving Star Wars: 1313 (at least conceptually). They'll prob change a few things around but I'm expecting it to be a game about a mercenary/bounty hunter.

I would think an open world Star Wars game looks more like what they were showing off with Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Why would Witcher 3 not count as an open world game? Do you even understand what an open world means? Open world does not mean "seemless transition". Gothic was seemless but its openworld was smaller than White Orchard alone in Witcher 3....

I was thinking that it might be kind of cool to see an open world SW game that had the skill trees each split into different types of SW archetypes, like Jedi powers/lightsaber, bounty hunter gadgets, scoundrel blaster tricks and stealth, etc.

I mean, these days Ubisoft basically just makes one game with a variety of skins, so might as well try and get something for everyone. lol

I don't get how Ubisoft still exists.

They make quality video games that people want to buy to play. People vote with their wallets, not with codex shitposting.

Your own signature says:

A lie does not become truth, wrong doesn't become right and evil doesn't become good, just because it is accepted by a majority

It is TemplarGR. He competes with the greatest dumbfucks the Codex had. And even though their retardation is absolutely legendary he is yet determined to prove that there that he has that ounce of extra class.

So don't try to demonstrate that he contradicts himself, I can already tell you what his response will be: he will just step up one more notch

A lie does not become truth, wrong doesn't become right and evil doesn't become good, just because it is accepted by a majority

That's so deep, and full of win .. I will print it out, put it in a frame and read it before every morning prayer.
