They didn't have a release date last year, they had a date for when the game would enter internal beta. And that had been given when the old roadmap first came out.

Yeah, the release of the BETA version of it, I don't remember them saying anything about it just being an "internal" release though
What does this mean for Squadron 42?
Ultimately, this is a really good thing for Squadron 42 development as well. Both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 share a codebase and as features come online for both games, they will be in a more stable/playable state, reducing potential blockers that can hinder and slow down development. You will of course notice that our target Beta date for Squadron 42 has moved back by 12 weeks in today’s Roadmap update, but this is a necessary step as a result of changing the overall development cadence, which we expect will create positive results in the overall delivery and experience of Squadron 42.

Its just typical Chris shitty ass management as usual ~ but hey, maybe, with some luck, Microsoft will also buy this one, that way we could finally play the damn thing.

Let's make it simple:

In its early access state DayZ sold 4 millions copies from 2013-2018 (release date included) they sold another one million copies and in 2020 another one million.

Do you see that the numbers are not decuplicating after the release? That's because early access games does not get a big boost of sales if the game is not released ASAP.

In 5 years of early access people interested in the game would have already bought it!

Remember we are talking about YEARS, not weeks, they are not buying an house, the "only a minority buy early access" it's not a valid argument when we are talking about games with years of early access.

In 5/8 years people with an interest to the game, but unsure to buy it because it's an early access, would buy it anyway because maybe during that large period of time they manage to have some cash to burn off or they get drunk.
Problem with this comparison is that you're talking SQ42, which is not an early access game. Presumably most of the people who wanted to play DayZ had already played it when it 'released' and the release was a non-event. No one has played SQ42, so the release will be an actual release. CIG aren't making hardly any money off SQ42 hype which is all but dead at this point. They only stand to gain by releasing it.
No once Squadron42 is released and sucks it will definitely hurt hype and donations for Star Citizen. It's why they've held it back all this time, when they could have easily gotten another 100 million just by selling 2 million copies of it which would be feasible. The reason they haven't done this, is because they can keep the gravy train going by continuing to get donations via their cult donors who still believe. Once the product is released, however, the dream is over.

There was never going to be public BETA of SQ42. It was supposed to go beta internally by end of 2020. But it was obvious pretty much to everyone who followed development around mid 2020 that they will be doing another feature that will for sure push it further away covid or not. The feature is "physical ship components" and they had to basically rework all the ships to include those components places they are still doing that currently. All new ships already come with spaces for those components to be swaped by player though they are not intractable for now until whole system goes V1.

No once Squadron42 is released and sucks it will definitely hurt hype and donations for Star Citizen. It's why they've held it back all this time, when they could have easily gotten another 100 million just by selling 2 million copies of it which would be feasible.

What hype you are talking about ? There is no hype on net. Every-time there is article about Sc it is either that this is a scam or that they delayed again something. It is mostly word of mouth that gets them money. There are no articles that praise it and there are no community made articles praising it. Even people who play it say outright that people should wait with buy until game is ready or in much better state.

How can you say there isn't hype for a game that has been in development for 7-8 years and just gained a record amount of donations last year? There is most certainly hype for this product. The articles don't matter. Once a product is delivered that hype will be gone though, and the donations will dry up. Same with all games really. Cyberpunk being a recent example.

what new they are working on:

- rivers for planets (being both auto and artist handmade)
- terrain modification
- possibility for player to modify terrain
- prototyping new solutions to space/air combat one which are capacitors (to force more jousting)

I was wondering how they will fix the problem of player owned bases/homesteads etc when players wouldn't be able to modify ground but it looks like they solved that problem with such system oriented generation.

They removed Dalamar and by that Levski landzone in PTU. Considering that their new roadmap shows they started work on Nyx system it was pretty predictable.

Systems progress according to their new roadmap:
- Stanton (lacks only Crusader landing zone and final Crusader gas giant asset)
- Pyro - in midst of heavy work
- Nyx - started recently
- Odin - Mostly done (SQ42)

Both crusader landing zone and cloud tech which are requirements for it are mostly done in finishing stages so stanton should be finished in 3.14. Pyro seems to be the most finished system outside of Stanton and i fully expect they will drop it into PU once their server meshing comes online this year which will start as 4.0. Nyx is small system with only Dalamar landing zone which is finished so i expect them to drop it pretty quickly into game. Odin is mostly done but for sure it won't be available in SC until they release SQ42 part1.

Overall all of other system outside of stanton should be way faster to be done as they are mostly lifeless and have like 1-2 landing zones which are mostly bigger space stations rather than cities like in Stanton.

They update massively their roadmap app with missing teams and added cards for rest of this year. Some key stuff without bullshit fillers:

3.13 - Q1 :
- new types of caves, sinkholes accessible only by ships, open which allow for ground vehicle.
- mounted guns (ability to mount guns on statives like getting that HMG on cutty black as close support ship)
- closet spawning (stuff you can loot)
- vehicle names and serials
- vehicle visual degradation (ships wearing down as you use them)
- ship -> station docking + merlin docking to constelation.
- 1 ship with 2 variants and 1 Tank

3.14 - Q2 :
- Crusader gas giant and Orison landing zone
- Physical inventory, all equipment will have their own inventories
- Scanning redesign, pinging, scanning etc.
- "hacking"
- shields rework with new graphics tech

3.15 - Q3 :
- FPS ammo rework, ammo will be in magazines and it won't magically refill itself with your stored ammo total like now.
- Freeform cutting. Ability to cut out ship exterior to get inside ship.
- Bombs and Mines
- Salvage - ability to salvage parts of wrecks (T0 later version will expand what you can do)
- 2 new ships
- Ship interior/exterior culling - performance upgrade

3.16 - Q4 :
- Orison landing zone upgrade
- FPS weapon wear and missfire
- Lockers and player inventory stashes
- Fire and fire extinguisher. Stuff now can catch fire.
- Shield emiters - Shield will have localized emiters you can destroy.

Not in cards but to be released this year (in detailed roadmap):
- Vulcan - Q2 with possible slip to Q3 - performance upgrade
- iCache - Q2/Q3 - database rework that allows more things having persistence without making server cry like being able to store information about cargo you haul and survive server crashes etc.
- Server Meshing - Q4/Q1 2022 - huge performance upgrade that opens up game for new systems 100s/1000s of players etc. If it will be in Q4, 3.16 card will be renamed to 4.0 probably.
- Pyro - relies on Server Meshing. If SM is in Pyro will be added to Q4 card
- Cloud tech - with release of new Crusader and Orison Landing zone (city is in clouds of gas giant).
- Dynamic fire spread - It is in Q4 card but as "fire extinguisher". Due to damage or arson things in ship can catch fire and that fire may spread if not stopped.
- Ship components - With salvage T0 Q3
- Cargo storage - finished but waits for iCache.

To be released 2022:
- Q1 Pyro system if server meshing slips from Q4 2021 to Q1
- Nyx system (small transit system) Dalamar is only populated station there, progress bar says they are already working on it.

Do you see problem here ? They already outsold by two times SW Squadron while not even being released.
lol, are you retarded? thoes are FORUM accounts only, not backers. and tens of thousands of them have several accounts. the number of backers are a fraction of the "citizens" they indicate.

Also if you can get 49 friends or org members and join together as a group you'll generate a new server which will be full and nobody else can enter making it your personal ORG private server. Until someone logs out/crashes that is.

Yup yup yup, SC p.servers live, 100% confirmed.

Star Citizen is kinda like Dwarf Fortress (endless scope and ambition) if Tarn Adams behaved like Bernie Madoff.

Bookmarked post to verify "progress" later.

Their new format with "tentative" means that they have 70% of confidence getting it into game on those cards.
Those cards would be bigger if they would just put what they are working on like previously.

Which means some of those things will get delayed while other things will join cards once they will feel confident about feature date same as 3 last updates where they started very lean but gradually expanded over months. Latest 3.12 update started with like 5 positions and grew to something like 10.

RIP iCache and that means server meshing is even further down the line. Oh well, I'll be playing Elite Dangerous and Astrox Imperium this year anyways.

Chilll dude, I'm sure your grandchildren children will manage to test dat sweet Jesus Tech as long as they don’t starve themselves by donating all their income to daddy Chris for his yacht vacations

icache is officially planned for summer
server meshing end of the year provided icache won't slip
after that quanta next year if server meshing won't slip.

Those are big tickets that will by themselves cause major changes to roadmap which is why they are not on roadmap. As each of them would entirely change roadmap. For example if icache is in then they can implement persistency across wide range of things and that will become priority for them.If server meshing is in, for sure they will drop everything and will focus on adding new systems etc.
