Likely worth the hassle, Enderal could really use a 64-bit version.
Great mod, but good grief is it unstable.

The renderer for the engine was largely rewritten between skyrim and SE, there is a massive performance difference between the two. If someone got it working on SE, definitely play it on that.

Looks like that SE version is also coming to Steam?

Wow, add Combat overhaul - yes the one that apart many things allows to shoot while jumping or slash while falling down - and we're in for one of the biggest RPG treats ever.

I strongly advise you check out the Wabbajack modlist Enderal my Way if you are interested in playing this on SE

Does the combat change much as you level in this?
Totally. It actually is much close to, say, Gothic then Skyrim. To an extend it may seem weird. You first pick up a bow, you need to put like 6-10 arrows into a single spider to kill it. In reality, this would be a nonsense, but here it's only the game translating you can't shoot very well and you have to learn it first.

Much later on, you've a perk that stagger most opponents, multiplies damage and add enchantment and time slow. Equals super one hit sniper able to kill three charging things in one time lapse.

Same goes for melee, magic, DOT, etc...

And ofc anything in between. As in most good and complex RPGs noone is saying you can't be jack of all trades, unable to stand 1 to 1 combat but being able to hit with a poisoned blade, run, lure into a prepared trap, and then finish with a scroll spell. If it gets the job done, it counts :)

And after killing one enemy by using poisoned blade+trap+scroll spell a sensational realization will creep into your mind. Such as there hundred enemies like this ahead and your poisoned blade is broken (you can't repair it without instruments), no traps around (or even if enderal allowed now to construct mechanical traps - no materials for them), your inventory run out of scrolls with nearest town way behind the very hundred enemies you supposed to fight with "jack of all trades" build. Now, I played last time Enderal long ago, but (if I remember correctly) player's character starts in the middle of nowhere and even if you could outrun enemies (and you cannot, as far as I remember, at least on low levels) to nearest town -you arrive empty on money and need to do thieving, which requires some sort of specialization in skills.

I know my remarks sound like I am very pessimistic about subject, but I wanted to point out that at start it would be better to specialize a bit and LATER branch out. Ofc it's just my opinion.

I only ever tried a two-handed barb type, and boy does it change dramatically once you level. From a guy that in 9 out of 10 cases will die to two bandits because he's so slow and has no defense, you end up two-hitting the game's only dragon once you gear & lvl up.

One of the bigger issues with it was instability/performance, especially so in crowded areas. I followed a guide at the time to manually port it to SE and the performance was way better, but crashed a lot. The main issue was that they merged all the extra mods directly into Enderal's .ESM. I assume that due to how this is built that the authors got the non-merged version directly from SureAI which allowed them to easily port it to SE.

Tbh yours is quite a fair point. Yes in the beginning things can be pretty rough. But also don't forget, when starting the game, you get to choose what you are at least somewhate proficient in...
---
As for the mid-late game, I've been able to cut down a bear with 2-3 strikes having "only" a very good weapon and 50/100 2-handed skillpoints. Ocassionaly even those mentioned one-hit kills appeared. Great moments such as the beast is charging you, and you mamage to precisely time the dodge-roll and then land a power attack from the side and then - the animation with a critical-hit kill appears!
---
As for my "build" I've been this silver-tongued alchemist shooter and also the light armor and two-handed weapons wielding guy who sometimes dabbled in heal and alternating magic, and also had the wits to bring a shield and a one-handed silver mace to fight the undead. So you see, I've really been no specialist in anything, and it was quite alright :3

I played a summoner. Probably not the best build, but they start out strong and remain that way through the whole game. Would recommend for first time playthroughs or those that dislike the engine's combat.

BTW for new players: there's hidden classes that are certain mixes of two memory trees.

Honestly I am having an absolute blast in EMW, it is REALLY good
Thanks for the link!
One small question, I find the mod's SSAO settings too intense, tinkered around abit, but I am not really satisfied. So if anyone who found them too dark aswell and changed them wants to share, I'd be a happy bunny.

Not sure but ask in the official Discord EMW channel (Wabbajack server) they'll be able to help you tweak it there maybe

I'm not quite sure, sorry. Though I believe it's worth mentioning, the VIP unlimited speed is really no more than 3EUR per month. By paying this you get to get into the everlasting hall of fame of gamers for gamers AND you make up for all the bad karma of those who pirated games 20 years ago. You know, when games costed 1/3 of the salary and nobody knew where to buy these so we were forced to - ooops, I almost said it. Phew, wisdom+luck check passed.

Reminder that an ENB such as Vivid Ender ENB should be used with Enderal for an improved look (with full ability to tinker appearance and turn on/off if you don't like)

Bear in mind that only certain ENBs can cope with the fade to black that Enderal uses
