Lol, nigga. It's isekai protagonist, He would make borys-whatever-his-name suck his bone dick by just glancing at him. That's the point of isekai, just like with your cities of 490000 liches.
Your "succubus harem and pew-pew spells" are something street thug with 3 INT would dream about, not someone with godly stats.
That's why adventures works only on low level - people playing rpg games are too stupid for proper high level shit. Killing kobolds is the best and only thing they can do.

Not truth.
1 - If Ainz is in Dark Sun, it is not the typical isekai show.
2 - The city of Liches is not mine, and I never said that is good written in the module. Only said as an example that even ultra high level PCs can encounter danger.
3 - I never praised pew pew spells. I always said that I like more specialized casters, and like the schools of Necromancy, Conjuration, Transmutation, Enchantment and Abjuration in that order. Evokation and Illusion are my least favorite schools.
4 - Godly stats is a strawman. Gods on D&D 2e are ABOVE game rules. At best, PC's can fight demigods and AVATARS of deities which has a tiny fraction of deity's real power. And we are talking about lv 30+ PC's.
5 - Then take out dragons from the game. Call it Manlets and Kobolds
6 - You clearly don't know what 3 INT is. 3 INT is bellow bestial levels of intelligence. A guy with 8 INT is can't even read on 2e. And on 2e, PC's stats rarely goes above 18, even at high levels. Even someone like you who is incapable of understanding the differences between illusion and conjuration, probably has 9 INT.
7 - Killing kobolds is the best thing that YOU can do.

As I've said, since everyone wanna to bash throne of the bloodstone, why not move all of the anime stuff and high level stuff in a thread to talk about that high level module in particular? Only to be clear, never said that the module has amazing writing, is good or anything. Only a good challenge for high level players and a interesting premise.

I'll better be competent kobold exterminator than chimp with hand grenade pretending to be high level mage.

Yep. Because only exists evocation spells and wizards are all about explosions, you can't make a Preserver specialist(alteration) in Veiled Alliance which his goal is to develop a spell to transform sand into fertile 'earth' and how to cool down the hot weather and discover more water or how to make water and who spends most of his money in books, reagents and spells to aid his research. Nor can make a gnome illusionist from the merchants guild who wanna to develop illusion to increase his profits.

Every caster needs to be like Megumin /sarcasm

  • I an NOT fine with magic that works differently in game and in lore. If a Strahd clone killed a army of rebels with cloudkill in a novel, in game, a cloudkill spell should do the same.
Not everything in a book translates well into a game. Different mediums are governed by different rules. That said, you can make a game that reflects a book as closely as possible, but it's much more difficult than focusing on "just" making a good game in the setting. The real challenge lies in making a game fun and interesting.

If that's the case then doesn't that prove you're wrong? What are you doing trying to one shot goblins with burning hands if you were supposed to be casting Glitterdust and buffing like a proper 'God' Wizard?

Sadly, most high level modules for D&D and CRPG adaptations are H&S heavy. Few modules focus on "civilization building" for example. If I had enough resources, I would develop a CRPG where most of the spells that you can use are good for out of combat situations. But on World of Darkness, the Tremere clan uses his magic for non combat related stuff mostly of the time. Their initial powers on path of the blood(thaumaturgy) is all about information gathering.

However, Veiled Alliance in Dark Sun, is a group of wizards using subterfuge, infiltration and guerrilla tactics against the sorcerer kings cuz they have no chance in a frontal assault. I wish that I could play 2e as one of then. And BTW, most of the members of Veiled Alliance are mid level, not high level ones. Honestly, if they could just outpower the tyrant with raw magical power, a campaign of Alliance VS Tyrant would become far less interesting.

But can you name an example of "bad translation" from a book into game mechanics?

What are you doing trying to one shot goblins with burning hands if you were supposed to be casting Glitterdust and buffing like a proper 'God' Wizard?

Charm, sleep and similar spells are amazing. On Dark Sun : Shattered Sands, I barely used any offensive spell. Used my magic mostly to buff my half giant and to "disable" enemies. To solo Baldur's Gate 1 as a magic use, you will use this spells most of the time. There are times that I had ZERO offensive spells memorized and was using one enemy vs another.

But on BG3, sleep and similar spells are worthless due hp bloat.

I can't see archfey and GOO pact being viable to warlocks on BG3 too. Fiend pact which is all about damage would be the most used. And wizards would only pick evokation. 5e already nerfed too much this sleep, charm and etc spells. BG3 nerfed then even more...

Backl to BG3.

Initially the player may just be staving off imminent disaster as Cyric and his friends move quickly against the player – several strong deities against a relatively weak one. I could imagine the player being forced to abandon the Throne of Bhaal and going on the run across the planes. The player’s goal would be to gain followers (faith=power), usurp the divine portfolio of another god, and carve out a base of power in the wider multiverse. Your journey could take you to some of the planes we’ve never visited in a CRPG – Mount Celestia, Limbo, and Mechanus, for example – as well as revisiting old favorites like Sigil, though seeing the City of Doors through the eyes of a minor deity could be a very different experience. In a divine-level planar campaign, the player might stir up a civil war on Mount Celestia, conquer a layer of the Abyss, or assemble an adventuring party of divine avatars. Ultimately you’d take back the Throne of Bhaal, smack down Cyric and his friends, and establish a place for yourself among the pantheon of gods.

Could you tell me how Strahd's clone killing an army of rebels with cloudkill could be in any way interesting (as a gameplay mechanic)?

It's about how a mechanic can serve the gameplay. Is having save-or-die spells really that interesting or fun when used against the player? I could see it working as ultimate ability of really powerful enemies in a roguelike, where you can fill the holes in your roster with fresh meat by hiring randomly generated adventurers in a tavern. Or when the spell's effect can be reversed (Flesh to Stone vs Stone to Flesh, for example), thereby turning it into a quest of its own. But something that essentially deletes you from the game forever? In a game that has a limited number of companions to begin with? That's neither fun nor interesting, because there is little to nothing you can do about it.

Instead I'd suggest adding spells that can provide interesting effects gameplay-wise (both in and outside of combat).

If you had the dumb idea of trying to invade his castle at lv 4 and a trap insta kills you or see a lot of cadavers in ground and using inspect, see that they died to cloudkill and when you get the cloudkill spell scroll, you know that now you can too slay a army of weakllings with no problem because in narrative and gameplay, the spell works in the same way.

BTW, on Kingmaker, there is a dungeon which when you enter, the exit is locked, 3 cloudkills are casted by traps and undead cyclops starts to attack you. An companion which was very low level due no XP share, insta died in this place. This cyclops can dish more damage than my mid level kineticist hit a critical of 127 hp on my CON damaged druid companion but I manage to win that encounter. After it, I burned a lot of resources in the first battle. Was very fun, intense and interesting.

And after this encounter, I encountered traps that cast finger of death when pressed. If the spells was like Pillars spells, this memorable area would't have 1% of the impact. Sadly FoD on kingmaker just dish massive damage, doesn't insta kill anymore like on 2e/3e.

I am feeling an irrational desire to defend even the worst of Larian's decisions, as long as this Victor gentlemen hates them. I am resisting it so far.

LOL. That explain so much... Anyway, an question to you guys. Can you imagine "vordakai tomb" Baldur's Gate 3 style?

they already have something similar to tombs first room.
that said except its big overland map, bg3 contains considerably smaller maps. I'm not sure they can do all the tomb.

That S0rcererV1ct0r section is looking like a very good idea.

Nope. Just create a magefag section.

Nice is there a gay spanish elf companion or french lady that loves shoes that later will be retconned into being a lesbo even though she sucked my dick in the first game?

We only have access to ch 1 at moment of Divinity Original Sin : Forgotten Realms Edition.

Speaking of it isn't there a Divinity Original Sin: The Dark Eye Edition?

Think it was for multiplayer mode only.
