Gotta figure out a way to use it in a conversation, don't want to lose my RP points
:shredder:
I mean, you're beleaguered already by attempting to use it at all.

just noticed the sky moves with the time of day, looked up at the full moon ingame(it tracks IRL moon phases which is important for things like mushroom crop growing, werewolves, etc.,) then a bit later looked up to see it again only to realize it was on the opposite side now
watched it for a bit and sure enough, it slowly moves

there's a lot of time dependent things btw, like some plants/animals only coming out at specific times

I noticed the loading screen tips change a lot depending on a bunch of various factors
recent one I got was "Kraken lay their eggs during the fullmoon" :M

because each vendor only buys certain items and has a currency cap(slowly resets) depending on your favor, you end up traveling around a lot to find people to buy your stuff
some vendors also pay more for certain items than others

the withdrawal for drugs gets way worse the more you abuse them
not like I'm addicted to bounceweed or anything and can barely function without it now

Would you describe your journey so far as that of a hobo?

Also, what about your character's journey in the game?
It would involve a lot of spoilers.

Something I noticed is that the more specific an item an NPC likes, the more favor they reward you for giving it to them. e.g., if one guy likes 'nature items' and another guy specifically likes 'marigolds'(marigold is a member of the flowers category which is a subset of the plants category which is a subset of the nature category,) the latter will give you much more favor for a marigold than the former will.

Shopkeepers selling items that were sold to them by other players is another EQ feature that subsequently went missing in most MMOs following it. Not really sure why, but I love it. I always take time to stop and check what items a merchant has because of it, you never know when you might find some good stuff.

not one to brag, but I currently have the high score on Monsters and Mantids

How EA is this?

I've been burned before, and the fact that it's an MMO makes my hesitation even worse.
It's not finished, but there's a lot of content.
I don't think it's a game that will ever truly be "finished" though.

Is it well supported? Does it feel as quality as Everquest?

It only has a handful of developers and it's jank as all hell, but so was EQ.
There's a demo for it on Steam so you can check it out for free.

as a side note, the UI is actually surprisingly good. Nearly everything can be resized or moved, scales fine between resolutions, etc.,
Hard to describe good UX in words, but it just "flows". Easily the least jank part and surpasses a lot of professional games in this area.

Interesting, battle chemistry gets a programmable golem pet. Think of the tactics feature in Dragon Age: Origins.

I only bought a couple rules and skills to check it out

Agree with what rusty said, the demo is well worth it because is not a timed demo and you have a lot of freedom.

Its very EQish in all the sense of the word, jank included BUT it has a lot of charm, from the world to the characters and even the enemies banter.

Its really worth a try.

Finally unlocked mushroom farming. You create a frame(there are plenty of different ones) using carpentry, then use that frame to make a specific mushroom box, then place the mushroom box in a cool, damp place(e.g., cave), seed the mushroom box with the mushroom you want(dozens of different ones) and add substrate(I only have dirt and bone atm, appears there's at least 6 different ones.)
The active phase of the moon affects how the chosen mushrooms grow.

Unrelated, but it does a good job at keeping materials of all levels valuable. Lots of higher level recipes call for lower level materials, guild quests(which require tons of materials) need lots of lower level materials, etc.,
People actively farm lower level crops/gather lower level stuff rather than just ignoring it outside of leveling as in typical MMOs.

Are you in some sort of guild or are you all alone?

the newer areas/dungeons have lots of cool instancing(or phasing, I guess) technology. Not that it separates you, but that each person can have their own puzzles, locked doors/chests/traps, etc., without it being interfered with by other people. Pretty neat.

After a long trek through the Winter Nexus fighting trolls and ogres with my valiant companions, I came out with 8 broken bones. Going to spend some time gardening in the casino while healing my bones via battle chemistry.
