I'm on an actual spaceship. No joke.
InSight Nothing wrong with quieting the mind. As the good book says, "Be still and wait on the Lord". Silence, both within and without, has also been practiced by Christian monastics since forever - right from the start of Christian monasticism, in fact, out in the Egyptian desert.

With that out of the way, meditation can take a myriad of forms. Mantras, chants, emptying the mind, and remaining immobile are all features of some techniques that are not universal to meditative technique. Indeed, a great deal of techniques will instead fill the mind with something specific, adjusting intensity and aperture of concentration according to purpose. This can be a visualisation technique, of which many permutations exist, or it can be the focusing of the mind on one specific aspect; Love, Colour, Spaciousness, Breath, Awareness itself. Or it can be wider in scope, such as body scanning techniques where awareness is limited to physical sensations of the body, but not in one pointed fashion. This might be pure observation, It might be progressive relaxation, it might be stimulating movement of "energy". Really, the permutations are endless.

Bro, when you talk about these things I get the impression it doesn't come from a place of experience. I would remind you of the words of the author of the letter to the Hebrews:
But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.
If you don't train your senses, how will you grow? If you make a serious effort to train your senses and your awareness; Well, friend, you just started meditating.

One of the desert fathers once exhorted some of the junior monks to be like a bee, flitting from flower to flower and gathering only the pollen. Don't assume that everything produced within the context of another spiritual tradition is evil or dangerous while assuming that produced within a non-spiritual context is somehow neutral. People have been living in the world and learning from experience since forever. Take what is useful and move on. Sometimes you really don't know until you try.

From the letter to the Phillippians:
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
If you read The Treatise of the Exalted One on Response and Retribution, attributed to Lao ze, isn't what is written there virtuous, good, and praiseworthy? Many such stories.

The thing about RPGs is that they are roughly in the same state as RTS were before their untimely demise. Its a genre that is half stagnant and half misappropriated. On one hand you have the fact that the basic premise and design philosophy of RPGs has effectively remained stagnant since the 90s(or 80s depending on how autistic you are) on the other hand you can massive crapton of games that claim to be "RPGs" but really only feature some vague notions of leveling and barebones stat management. So games like Binary Domain are given the "RPG" tag on steam because technically there are "choices" (a.k.a you do or do not max "friendship" with your squad by landing enough headshots) and "stats" but those are so minor that if removed it would not change the game one bit. Meanwhile a game like DA:O just feels like a more high end(or cut down, again depending on your level of autism) version of Baldurs Gate despite those game being separated by 11 years of "progress".

This is in stark contrast to other genre where going just a few years back makes you feel like you are playing games from a completely different genre. Shooters in particular have gone through so many mutations and permutations in their design that in comparison to RTS or RPG games appear wholly stagnant. So when it comes to liking them I can only say that I am really intrigued by the concept of a "role playing game" but I tend to end up disliking most simply because I do not really feel like replaying Baldurs gate again but this time with a different set of features missing.

When I think about it, the only RPG I ever played was Fallout (and 2 but that's worse). I liked that it was a very good game. Which actually just means that I liked it, despite what I said in my first post. Still, I wish there was something more appealling to me... it'd be great if we had Fallouts for every theme/setting/genre. Well, too bad. Of course I played those RTwP games, but does that really count? Does it? I don't think it actually does.

I don't wanna play nushit. I don't wanna play oldshit. I wanna play some justrightshit. But it seems like there isn't really a lot of that...

Embrace the Revolution.

The problem with Obsidian is that their changes aren't good. They're still remaking Baldur's Gate, except they're cutting out some of the better bits or changing core mechanics for no real reason.

To bring true progress to a genre you need to understand the fundamentals and bring it forward to the next step. Think about what made the old games fun, then go further into that direction.

Just replacing the old attribute system with a new one for no real reason, and making it worse than the old one, while keeping everything else exactly the same... yeah no surprise people are resistant to that kind of change.

I sure hope you posted that one ironically Viper.

Fans of any kind are not resistant to changes. They are resistant to downgrades dressed up as changes.

Sawyer himself uses Bethesda and their takes on TES and FO as examples of where the genre could evolve towards. You know the two franchises that with each new installment remove and strip down more and more of their features only to replace them with nothing. Skyrim is literary half the game Oblivion was yet the base gameplay of left clicking opponents to death has not changed in any significant way since Morrowind launched. The only thing that changed is the amount of screenshake and grunting effects otherwise the, and I quote, " immersive experience" these games offer has not changed one bit. I wonder if that might have something to do with people being "resistant to changes".

On that same note half the reason why people liked F:NV was specifically because it re-implemented a lot of content and features that Bethesda gutted form Fallout 3. Incidentally the sort of features that were typical for old Fallout games.

I would not say ironical — “ironical” gives a feeling o edginess that certainly was not the goal —, but it was definitely a joke; I don’t think I would ever use the sentence “Embrace the Revolution” seriously. That said, nice observations.

mind in turmoil is one that is susceptible to demonic possession, or alternatively has already succumbed to possession.
Agree based on the symptoms i read where it involves child abuse but are there example/studies that attempt to differentiate between psychological conditioning or possession.
I used turmoil to refer its commotion: a condition of civil unrest or insurrection , that is constantly in action. You would not willing sail or fly in heavy storm, would you?
The mantras exist so that the practitioner can free himself from possession by emptying his mind of desires, hatred, et cetera.
Any examples of when the emptying of mind of desires, hatred,et cetera freed one of possession?
One can have a view/outlook/glimpse of the world and its heading outcome or recognize futility to free or lessen oneself of desires.

Various sources on why these terms ring alarm bells with my view/knowledge/concepts, here it the latest:

If you don't train your senses, how will you grow?
Biologically one grows by consuming food(height or weight), not by training one senses except when we are babies and myopic, but that is done automatically, without our memory of it.

If you make a serious effort to train your senses and your awareness; Well, friend, you just started meditating.
Meditation as mentioned in scripture can be easily replaced with thinking an active&varied contrast to passive/repetitive , I aware of one example were it could be considered not: a segment describing visions of fire, when mediating on why evil doers were not punished . If meditating=thinking , I do so plenty and probably overdoing it and it comes effortlessly/automatically. One become more aware with knowledge/info/data, memorizing/retaining/holding and comparing, concluding speculating the only missing component is testing/verifying. i have not trained any of the 5 physical senses to do so.

here is another example where meditating can be replaced with thinking or contemplating:

I also don't believe everything strange about a person has to do with possession. That doesn't even make sense. Humans are more than capable of being weird on their own. Yeah bro, exorcise me and I'm just going to become a totally normal heterosexual human-lover. If only it were that easy.

Are you serious?
Yes.
Even if we consider pornographic addiction basing on the book "your brain on porn" by Gary Wilson where testimonies describe how they constantly acquire fetish after fetish, only stopping short of the like granny porn or other unspeakables. That is there is a red line for people that should not be crossed, that there is a safety mechanism such as principles/morals as a stopping point, I assume there was other influence that pushed you over the cliff that lead you into your current state. Take a look even at the words you use.

Porn addiction according to one who broke of various addiction such as cigarettes and cocaine, claims it is the hardest, Exorcism alone instantly would not do but taking into consideration the creator Yahuah/הוה/YHWH abilities/miracles/greatness , it could be a simple matter.
The question if you are possessed still needs to be verified/answered/tested.

Personal curiosity, have you watched a thunder-cats animation? if yes at what age?
Where there any other animation works involving animals as characters you watched and what age and frequency?
Was there any food consumption involved in the above?

While I am hardly qualified to argue the finer points of Eastern doctrines, this is how Nirvana is sometimes portrayed:

Likewise, the Mahāsaccaka-sutta and most of its parallels agree that after taking asceticism to its extremes, the Buddha realized that this had not helped him reach awakening. At this point, he remembered a previous meditative experience he had as a child sitting under a tree while his father worked.[178] This memory leads him to understand that dhyana (meditation) is the path to awakening, and the texts then depict the Buddha achieving all four dhyanas, followed by the "three higher knowledges" (tevijja) culminating in awakening.[179]

Gautama thus became known as the Buddha or "Awakened One". The title indicates that unlike most people who are "asleep", a Buddha is understood as having "woken up" to the true nature of reality and sees the world 'as it is' (yatha-bhutam).[15] A Buddha has achieved liberation (vimutti), also called Nirvana, which is seen as the extinguishing of the "fires" of desire, hatred, and ignorance, that keep the cycle of suffering and rebirth going.[181] According to various early texts like the Mahāsaccaka-sutta, and the Samaññaphala Sutta, a Buddha has achieved three higher knowledges: Remembering one's former abodes (i.e. past lives), the "Divine eye" (dibba-cakkhu), which allows the knowing of others' karmic destinations and the "extinction of mental intoxicants" (āsavakkhaya).[173][182]

Desires are often described (perhaps metaphorically) as demons waiting to possess one's mind, and one must turn away from them to achieve enlightenment. Try reading some cultivation novels, they frequently make use of the related concept of qigong deviation.

I watch kemono animes all the time. I eat food because I'm a physical creature. Whadya gonna do bout dat hmmm

Why would I ever listen to someone who thinks everything is paganism and believes every random video he finds on the internet? Chaosposting isn't really a means to salvation. It's quite apparent you're trying too hard, well beyond what you're actually capable of... that's not to excuse anything you find disagreeable about me, but if you want to help others, you must first help yourself. And right now you're really not helping.

Well, assuming you actually are serious. If not, then keep it up, your posts are hilarious.

wait why am I replying to an alt

Shooters in particular have gone through so many mutations and permutations in their design that in comparison to RTS or RPG games appear wholly stagnant.
1st gen shooters: could be called "labyrinth shooters" since they have big and heavily branched maps with lots of ways to go; gameplay is mostly uninterrupted and your goal is to leave the map while solving light puzzled and killing stuff. ID Software shooters, Build Engine games, etc.
2nd gen shooters: came into existence with Half-Life 1. They are way less non-linear (while still having some of the branching in the map design), and introduce cinematics, which don't get in the way too much, but play a big role in the game. Vehicle and turret sections are almost mandatory
3rd gen shooters: map design is now literally a one long bowel, and if player is ever given any choice in where to proceed, it's treated as something really outstanding. Cinematics now are full-blown movie-like cutscenes in which control is wrestled away from the player. QTEs are now a part of the genre, and gameplay is greatly dulled

Well, this is not the evolution people were hoping for

Doom is still the best single player FPS, despite the limitations. Makes you think.
Thank god there's basically an unlimited amount of user created content for it.

That's a bit too wide a spectrum to fit the "generic" part. And one can't help but wonder what hides behind the "whatever".

I noticed a while back that "generic" has become the generic criticism around here. What little effort OP has put into his trolling largely consists of reading a few threads and parroting back stuff like "generic" and "banalshitboring" supplemented by specifically mentioning games that are held in high regard here.

Sadly, it has worked for him and I've now contributed to his success with this post.

You know you're a true enthusiast of the genre when no more RPGs impress you and you spend more time thinking about how unimpressive they are than actually playing them

I think the combat in PST, as basic as it was, made us connect with the characters on a more physical level. The gameplay revolved around solving quests and reading, but the characterization, the grounding of it, the intimate inspection of the tattoos, made this gameplay real.

Disco Elysium is cool and all, but you need to be able to throw a fireball into a crowd for a game to be an rpg.

Not sure if it relates to the issues discussed ITT. But I like rpgs, and I know what they are.
