Full party creation allows you to make sub-optimal characters if you think that's funny and/or you're gay. The only reason to insist on recruitable companions instead is because you're a storyfag.

Games with "full" (additional optional and/or temporary pregens to an already big created party are fine) party creation are the only ones worth playing. Pregens and single character are by far the worst trend of post 95 RPGs.
