I’m naive about con culture, so I am pretty surprised she has dug her nails in to so many parts of the industry. I guess when you’re opening those legs anything is possible.
conventions are basically orgies for nerds
absolutely disgusting tbh
I need to start visiting cons. I thought they were about the cringesperience and not huge orgies. I heard the speedrun scene is the same.

So Karissa thought MCA was the perfect man to cuddle and to raise her son. Oh, how sweet.

Funny how women can turn a consensual liaison into BRUTAL SEXUAL ASSAULT RAPE RAPE RAPE if rejected.

Chris should be a cautionary tale of the dangers of the modern con. My own experiences were in 2009, a completely different era in terms of this sort of nonsense.

Thesedays you probably get accused of rape at a con if the girl has the slightest trace of alcohol in her blood.

It then turned out that one of his accusers who had dropped receipts of Chris mentioning her lady parts in a text message, had attempted a budding porn career as "Violet" with none other than James Deen (I'll let you google that).

Now, it turns out the original accuser, Karissa Burrows - was pretty keen on having a relationship with Chris right from the get go. That Chris' horrible drunken passes at her were apparently quite well received at the time. At least according to a new article now up on medium from a Jeff Johnson:

You can read the rest yourself, but the text includes receipts with messages between Jeff and Karissa, with Karissa referring to Chris as her "con-boyfriend" (convention boyfriend), and even referring to him as a "complete gentleman". Karissa even says she'll need to "keep the alcohol flowing"...

Even if Chris loses his lawsuit and/or remains cancelled, at the very least it is good to see that there are consequences for the person who chose to destroy his life out of pure spite. Whether or not a court recognizes it, she's being outed as a vindictive two face with no sense of morals or accountability. Who is going to want to take the risk of bringing someone like this into their company? Even hypocrites who publicly continue to turn their noses up at Chris will avoid associating with her too, just without the moral grandstanding.

Interesting turn of events, though.

What 'turn of events'?
This has all been quite obvious to anyone with a functioning brain.

Agree. This is what happens when you assume the truth without hard facts and just go by one person’s version of the story. AKA the “believe all women” mantra.

It’s obvious to anyone with a brain that this is an awful position.

I hate that the concept of "investigate an accusation seriously as though it may be true" has been twisted to "automatically believe all women no matter how flaky the claim".

Trust, but verify. Shame that right now it's mostly Trust and don't bother to verify.

The worst part is if these messages never came out he would still be fucked.

He's still fucked. He'll still be radioactive in "polite circles". Being in the "right" on matters like this only counts if you're a politician who has a huge powerbase behind themselves, he's gonna be at best a tangential figure in the industry and will never recover his former prominence.

If he isn't just kind of stepping out to retire or find other places to apply his talents at this point the only question I'd ask him is "Why"

There's nothing for him in this industry. It has been largely bereft of anything worth sinking a lifetime into and building a career on for decades. The fact that it's an industry is alone cause to reconsider what he does with his time and effort. Even on the lower end, with the indies and hobbyists, the rot shows through - the fish may have started rotting from the head but it's been long enough nearly the whole thing is inedible.

I think we all already understood that #1 Karissa probably did know who Chris Avellone was when she met him and that networking reasons were a factor in her approaching him and #2 Karissa really wanted to sleep with Chris who was pretty fucking oblivious to the nature of her behavior and she got really sore about striking out. But, credit to Chris, not sleeping with her was in fact very much the right call.

Yes. The cancellation might end up being a blessing in disguise.
