That would sort of put it in that murky territory where you could also consider Pillars 1 as the first Paradox RPG, which is worth asking - my point is I don't know how many non-producer/non-marketing people at Paradox worked on either.

Now — Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 was the sequel ~16 years later. Paradox Interactive was the publisher. They haven’t done any RPG games themselves to my knowledge (yet, I guess).

As one described it, it’s where game executives go to jerk each other off, pretend to facilitate contracts, give awards to themselves, and compliment each other on the hard work the developers at their studios do. That may be stated somewhere in the rulebooks, but logically, the only reason any large group of supernaturals can still maintain the masquerade in current_year is because the secret world government uses advanced technology to maintain it for them. Depriving the masses of the knowledge of the existence of "reality deviants" is their modus operandi. AFAIR, the Technocratic Union has a subdivision called literally called "New World Order", which in turn has a program called Total Panopticism, whose job is to maintain overwatch, surveillance, and control over all of the world's media.

Sorry, I slightly misremembered here. In Mage: The Ascension, the NWO's central program is called Panopticon, and its main function is to maintain surveillance and control over the other members of Technocracy. It's the Syndicate that has a mass media control program that inserts subliminal messages to make the normies more obedient, and also fictionalizes real things in order to make the sheeple go "I saw this stuff in a movie about magic/sci fi superheroes, it can't possibly be real!"

Oh wait, but this mass media control thing is just stuff we played in a tabletop RPG about magic/sci fi superheroes, it can't possibly be real.

The White Wolf team really went all-out in the realm of conspiracy theory research when writing the Technocrat rulebooks. It speaks volumes that the post-reset nuWoD Vampire, Werewolf and Mage games all had popamole, uninspired, generic lore that didn't connect to anything real, and the post-revival oldWoD got stripped of most of its more "problematic" aspects, and replaced them with social justice.

Seems like paradox really did what we all suspected them to do regarding to mitsoda. There was never been a respect towards the original IP nor people who worked on it. They used their names for credibility then for whatever reason tossed them aside and went on doing whatever the fuck they want to do.

Glad this project is dumpster fire and i hope it was such a moneysink that will take a long time to recoup.
