If you must play her just lock her into the class she starts with. All three of the (insane) features of that class (fast spell progression, weapon enhancement, and hexes) scale hard with class level and if you go a different direction her first level is kind of dead.

She’s a poor choice for an early companion so I’d hoped they’d swap her out for and INT-based character since Seelah is CHR and Lann is WIS.

If you want to play a Battle Shaman (and you should - it's great) the Half-Orc specific Archetype is really good (trades Wandering Spirit for a pet but you still get Wandering Hex) and that way you don't have to deal with her annoying character. Comes with Falchion and Greataxe Proficiency and game has some good ones and is short on two-handed companions.

I don't know if it's just me, but this build feels buggier than the other betas. I'm randomly unable to initiate conversation with some NPCs.

Yeah, there are issues with saving/loading where you can end up in states where you can't interact with NPCs. Sometimes, reloading fixes it, but not always. Hopefully, they fix that this week as well as the save crashes people are reporting in Drezen.

Agreed; I have no intention of using her when I actually play, because she's awful as a character. With the bugs currently going on, I've just been experimenting with different classes in the tutorial/shield maze, since I don't want to push on until they fix the issues.

Likewise.

Halfling Cav is fun but missing 2nd level ability.

Veil Witch has wrong stat for Hex DCs.

Gnome Arcanist is cool but doesn’t work with new Pyro Heritage.

Eldritch Font is pretty good (works well with Metamagic) but I probably won’t get around to it for a couple years lol.

I'm basically waiting to actually start playing again until they've ironed some of this stuff out. I had some great fun with the character creator though and it amuses me how many fairly oddball characters you could come up with in it, like a velociraptor riding halfling knight charging into battle. Is it the best? Who cares? That's awesome.

It really reminds me why PoE is a disappointing experience. :littlemissfun:

These games used to be and should be about thinking of an idea for your hero/anti-hero/whatever and building it within the constraints of the system and ending up with something that feels cool and different from other things. PoE (and various other games) tend to be more about picking which flavour of +1% bonus you get for your generic guy.

So... weapon proficiency bad?

It's always bugged me that, computers being computers, developers can't make it so that the computer is "aware" of your build and setup, so that if there are any "really important containers" that are supposed to give a hot weapon, they provide one appropriate to you.

The computer "knowing" your build would go a long way to solving a lot of problems that plague CRPGs (since it would compensate somewhat for the lack of human DM).

Neverwinter Nights was able to do this. I believe there were containers in the OC that were guaranteed to give you a generic +1/+2/etc of the weapon your character was proficient with.

The other way the tabletop assists you with acquiring weapon is with the crafting rules. Any decently sized settlement will be able to provide a crafting service provider with the right feats and DCs.

Every 1000 gold of item cost takes 1 day of crafting, so as long as you have some downtime and access to a crafter (either party or an NPC in settlement) you can by RAW have any weapon or armour, with any odd combination of enchantments made.

You can later have the same item upgraded with new enchantments as long as you can afford it.

Think he means specialized and focus weapons, but having to cater loot to build makes it seem boring really.

Yeah I was responding to that video in context. It's about focus and specializations. If you're not going to bundle those into weapon types, if you're going to have them for specific weapons, then there has to be some compensation - not for every container obviously, you do need some random element to keep up suspense, but containers that come as rewards for passing important stages should definitely be "aware" of what you need. And that "awareness" of your build should carry through to other things (eg. dialogues, C&C, etc.).

Yeah,it is retarded,it will make every game feel the same. Loot should be hand placed and have decent variety that will allow different builds. Kingmaker did ok job with that, tho it had too much loot and that became boring later on. Also those crafters were annoying.

Never liked crafting since it kinda undermines the importance of finding cool loot around, but it's a matter of preference

This ridiculous conversation misses the whole point of PF design.

Which is making Martial Proficiency matter. There are only a few classes that need to restrict themselves to one weapon at all. If you want Shatter sure take Focus but it's only +1. Very minor consideration.

People still playing the games in their head instead of the one in front of them. The irony is that Owlcat spammed weapons all over the place in response to all this retarded whining and still people cry because they just assume it isn't gift-wrapped for them when it in fact is.

If you want to be proficient with the weapons you find play a class with wider proficiencies.

This isn't complicated.

Jesus, the handholding!

Handhold with tutorials yes. Handhold with warping the entire universe for poor helpless player no.

You're correct in stating that Wrath's weapons are better distributed than Kingmaker's, where some weapons REALLY got shafted (like Bardiches) and some were too prevalent (greataxes)

Baldur's gate did proficiencies semi well. All they have to do is to make that there is class based proficiencies, say a rogue being able to master small/short weapons or druid being able to master the staff, etc etc. In BG it was retarded that only martial classes could master weapons and everyone else was left with one or two pips.

No. Proficiency (as in, what you can use) is obviously OK because they're restrictions typically based on your class, just like spell access or whatever.

However the specializations serve no purpose but reduce player incentive to experiment with cool items even though they're allowed by his class, *and* leaves you at the mercy of the developers loot design and implementation. It's a bad system in P&P too, but the bad parts are worsened by cRPGs.

All this because some people love the fluff of just using one weapon all the time.

In my experience DM'ing, most people playing martials tend to stick to one primary weapon throughout the entire campaign even if they don't have specialisation feats.

Must admit I do mostly the same thing.

My Barbarian in Strange Aeons has his adamantine falchion that he acquired at the end of the first book that he christened 'ripper'. He's had it constantly upgraded throughout the whole campaign, to the point it is now a +3 keen, furious falchion.

He carries an intelligent aberration bane bastard sword as his secondary weapon that can be transformed into any other martial weapon with a standard action. The sword also has 20 intelligence so gives him useful advice outside of combat, being much smarter than him.

Fighter in PF in addition to Martial Prof also gets to train in broader classes of weapons so don’t have to restrict themselves to just a Sword say but can use any Heavy Blade and get that bonus.

And most people hoard their consumables and never use them. Good design involves making them, not having them pour themselves down the player’s throat.

We all understand that our most memorable experiences involved being forced to quaff pots just to stay alive or using that super narrow spell that no one has ever tried because that was the lone chink in the armor of a tough foe.

The fun is in managing the trade offs not in mommy bringing your tendies on cue.
