Something I've noticed is that Firaxis appear to be slightly downplaying the fact that the game is turn-based. They keep saying "tactical RPG" and within context it's obvious that the combat is turn-based, but they seem to be avoiding mentioning it in the first paragraph you could say.
Probably to not upset this specific flavor of retarded: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/marv...trailer-gamescom-2021.1616589/#post-264445661

Could be interesting, nuXCOM mechanics were always more suited to super-heroes than strict normal soldier action anyway.

The permadeath and persistency mechanics were the secret sauce of nu XCOM though, even the dumb mainstream press knows that. Without that I don't really see anything interesting at all, at least from the perspective of an actual gamer and not a normie. I don't know what the overall consensus of the XCOM 2 expansion pack was for instance, but I found it incredibly boring because of the focus on the undying superheroes stuff, the only part I thought was somewhat well done was the unusual style of play in the zombie maps where it altered the dynamic for both aliens and you.

On the youtube announce trailer there are a lot of comments like "Avengeeerr to cool so hyped but me no like turn based why they do strategy and not action"

Now you have your answer

Why Marvel's Midnight Suns Game Renamed Itself From the Midnight Sons Comics

Firaxis Games explains that Marvel's Midnight Suns tweaked title pays homage to the original Midnight Sons while allowing the game to stand by itself.

By Brad Lang Published 8 hours ago

Firaxis Games, developer of the upcoming tactical RPG Marvel's Midnight Suns, clarified why the team decided to make a small but significant tweak to the team's name.

Longtime Marvel fans no doubt noticed the similarity between Midnight Suns and the Midnight Sons, an obscure supernatural team of Marvel heroes that saw a flash of success in the 90s. Speaking to CBR, Firaxis Games explained that the game's adjusted name is intentional as it both serves to pay homage to the original comics and establish this new team as its own entity.

“The decision to call the game Marvel's Midnight Suns was driven by Firaxis’ love for the original Midnight Sons comic series, while the change in name highlights the fact that this is not a retelling of the original story and that it offers a completely new unforgettable adventure. The Marvel's Midnight Suns name is unique to the game," explains Firaxis.

Marvel's Midnight Suns draws inspiration from "Rise of the Midnight Sons," a brief comic book that saw various supernatural heroes join forces to defeat Lilith, Mother of Demons. Midnight Suns differs in that players will be creating their own hero, the Hunter, who is the child of Lilith and the only being capable of slaying her. The original Midnight Sons team included Ghost Riders (Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch), Blade, Frank Drake, Hannibal King, Morbius, Sam Buchanan, Victoria Montesi, Louise Hastings and Modred the Mystic. Doctor Strange would later join the team in the "Siege of Darkness" storyline.

The roster revealed for Midnight Suns currently includes Blade, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Magik, Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), Wolverine and Nico Monoru. Firaxis Games confirmed that fans can expect a total of twelve playable Marvel heroes; the remaining characters will be revealed at a later date.

In order to take down Lilith, players will need to form bonds with their teammates. When they're not out in the field, tearing up demons in tactical turn-based combat, players will be able to explore The Abbey, the home base of the Midnight Suns. There they'll be able to chat and hang out with their favorite heroes, building their relationships by engaging them in conversation, doing activities around the hub and giving them gifts.

"We really wanted to push this idea of relationships," said Jake Solomon, creative director on Marvel's Midnight Suns. "To unlock the potential of any hero in combat, you really have to develop a relationship with them."

Marvel's Midnight Suns launches for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in March 2022.

Yep, here we go. That trailer was total cringe from the Metallica cover to the shameless emasculation agenda. And you know there's gonna be some lesbian or transgender shit in there to make up for the relative dearth of POC heroes in the cast.

? Blade's black, Ghost Rider's mestizo, and Nico's Japanese.

"Diversity" is no longer about ethnicity, it's about ideology. If a black character is not going full BLM, then they don't count. Same goes for the other groups. It's why you'll see them saying such silly things as, "This is the first time we've seen female representation in film!" when advertising, say, the new Star Wars movies. The 80s and 90s were chockful of "strong female characters", but it doesn't count to them because they weren't pushing ideology enough.

As Solomon describes it, the relationship-building aspects of the game will allow you gain favor with the heroes by choosing the right dialogue options while talking to them, participating in each hero's favorite activities, and giving them gifts.

Sound like someone at Firaxis's really should tell Jake Solomon to stop talking about how much he loves Midnight Sons and is doing a version of that '90s event.

Lilith sure keeps popping up lately in games. That should be a red flag right there. Also notice center character is female flanked by the rest. Its WOKE.

As to captain marvel....

Blade never said he would vote for Biden so in reality he is a white man with melanin issues.

This is somewhat accurate. Even when a racebaiter like Reggie Hudlin wrote him in the 00s, he gave him the attitude of someone who identifies first and foremost as a daywalker.

It was quite brave of them to choose a mixed race vampire, Nicolas Cage and the white supremacists of Asia as their diversity cast. Firaxis of Evil...

Wrong Ghost Rider. This isn't Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch but the new guy Marvel added for latino representation, Robbie Reyes.

That's the thing, he's a flaming skull, no one even knows what skin he has. It's all so pointless.

You guys think Jake Solomon is happy with how his career turned out, from an autistic artist perspective? He wanted to make a true successor to x-com, ended up making a game where you only get 1 skyranger with a max squad size of six with 2 AP, and now has to develop a VN with "tactical elements." He's clearly made profitable games, but I doubt younger him would consider this as incline. Troubleshooter will still be the superior hero simulator, even after Firaxis makes all the day 1 dlc.

Maybe there's a little hope the actual game doesn't actually look like that trailer since they actually have a comic book artist (Ryan Stegman) doing the art for the Game Informer cover of this.

The new costumes still look fucking lame, but if the game actually looked like that it'd be better at least. Would be very weird if this didn't look like a comic book (given it's based on a comic and they seemingly have access to a comic book artist) given it sure seemed like they were going for some kind of comic book thing with their previous game XCOM: Chimera Squad. The little they've said of this game so far makes me think of Chimera Squad as well.

Can't captain marvel bitch just annihilate everything? I heard she was boring OP in the movies.

Yeah. She just single handedly breezes through a massive, hyper-advanced, galaxy conquering, capital ship like it's tissue paper. In the comics, I recall her exploding a planet with an energy beam like a super sayjin from DBZ. Very lame character.
