I beat it as a merc the other day. It felt very typical of the game how overpowered I was against every single enemy towards the end, up until the last boss that I had no chance against.
Good game, but I do not feel motivated to play it again.

Are assault rifles worth using? Prior to the factory update, I've tried it and bursts were horribly inaccurate and not worth it. Does an STR investment help sufficiently? Post a build if you're able.

Do I get more XP if I'm the one to deal the last blow to an enemy?

I just arrived in the second city, playing is a mercenary. It was quite a puzzle to try to get the most out of the first city, this is where I'm at

I wish I could make my character black
Dont invest in both dodge and block you need to pick one, you are just wasting skill points otherwise.

Ok.

My only major criticism of this game is that I'll sometimes be talking to a guy with 3 or 4 bodyguards and find that I have no dialog option except "oiright then m8 ill fuk u roit up"

You need to invest in civil skills, there’s almost always a way to avoid combat.

I’ve not encountered anything game breaking, if there’s a legit bug you should report it.

But most likely you are just a simpleton. AoD is not for everyone.
It's not a bug. It's intentionally designed shit. There are areas where you can't escape and you get absolutely curbstomped unless you only focus on combat skills the whole game.

There are also areas where you can't progress without fighting and you can't go somewhere else to level up. It's not exactly like you can go kill 50 000 rats to level up like most other RPG's. Thus game over.

Hmm. I played pure pacifist build with zero frags (well, one frag since I was lazy in the end and just blew up the robot with the grenade).

Also hybrid build with combat and non-combat skills alike, did most of the fights as well, including the ambush

Fake news, you just don't know the game enough.

Here's endgame screenshot of my latest 4 CON "combat" build. Weak-ass hybrid with maxed INT. Still managed to beat all fights in-game.

Early game Esbenus was pure hell, I killed him and his goons in combat without using crit dialogue. Aurelian outpost was too a bit difficult. Hardest fight in-game was IG desert ambush, I really wanted to beat the game without investing more than 3 points in block but it turned out to be impossible, their archer hurts too much and gaius genericus can't take it with just 30 HP. But yeah, completed most of the game with 3 block relying on my armor for protection coupled with the best form of defense. Al Sahir brought me pain as well, hilariously Widowmaker the final arena boss was one of the easiest arena fights for this character. Because he uses heaviest armor he can't dodge that good so spear specialist hard counters him, reloaded the fight several times and results were the same - he gets interrupted to death with passive spear procs never landing a single hit.

Also, crafting goes brrr

To be honest I played it right after launch, I understand there's been a LOT of changes and rebalancing and bug fixing since then, but I could never get back to it. Might be a completely different game now.

Nearly every fight in Age of Decadence can be beaten with a character with no combat skills, using the correct tactics and preparation. The combat system is stupidly broken, which is why, among AoD's other flaws, the combat is shit.

People who complain that AoD is too hard need to play Dungeon Rats in solo mode. AoD will look like a gentle breeze after that and you'll realize how many mechanics you have been ignoring in AoD.

Alchemy and crafting are combat skills though.
