Arkane Deathloop - first-person action game from Arkane set on a time loop island

Yeah, I’m still roughly 5 hours away from the end, but have had no urge to play recently. As I’ve said, it has some good parts, but overall it’s Arkane’s weakest game. It’s possible I’ll be surprised by Redfall I suppose (doubt it, considering it looks terrible), but in many ways this feels like a death rattle.

Oh well. “Creative studio with a focus on exploring interesting design space gets bought up and consumed by soulless Lowest Common Denominator Corporate Overlord”.

Same as it ever was.

Well, it doesn't really have much replay value despite it literally being a timeloop game, unless you're an achievement whore in which case there is a lot to do. By the time you've completed the game once you've probably done/seen almost everything there is in the game. It's not like it has RPG elements or build variety like Prey, or different playstyles for different endings like Dishonored. I've said about all I can care to about the game, it's good at the best of times but can be mediocre at others, or even downright bad in PvP. If people aren't buying the game I don't blame them, I'd recommend it at 50% off or sail the high seas for one playthrough once denuvo gets removed (you won't be missing much by not having pvp, in-fact I think the game is better without it).

I completed it the other day, and I feel it lasted just long enough to not outstay its welcome, but I wouldn't go back to it now. I didn't do all the side content, and my arsenal was pretty much locked in after about 5 loops, tutorial included.

It was consumed by Zenimax in 2010. Seems to me they dug their own grave, perhaps with Zenimax pressure.

Prey was actually really interesting and an incline, but they decided to burn all bridges to that idea.

Do you think the lead of this game will get fired like the lead of Prey? No, this idiot will get promoted.

Standin' pretty. In this dust that was a city.
The first game to have crouching as a stealth mechanic in a 3D environment was SEAL Team.

Valid but the criteria was for First Person Crouch Stealth which is very specific and narrow in what counts.
Boomer Arma ftw however its impressive such games were possible in 93.

Then it's still valid, even given criteria. You could switch to FPS view in the game (no visible gun though). I know, I still have the manual.

This is where the most of its sales will come from tbh. It's an exclusive and PS5 is somewhat lacking in big exclusives right now.
I don't think we have any PS5 numbers yet?

Game is below Cyberpunk in sales just 1 month after release talk about dead game XD

https://store.steampowered.com/search/?os=win&filter=globaltopsellers

Those are just direct Steam sales. The bulk of sales probably goes through the Bethesda Launcher. And PS5.
All retail sites give Steam key for this game, actually. Even the physical edition on Bethesda's website would grant you a Steam copy by connecting accounts.

yes, but those keys wouldn't be counted in the direct Steam sales

Oh wait, I just realized Justicar posted the topsellers tab. I skimmed through the link and thought it was the steamdb page, my bad :D

Although if we calculate sales based on the number of user reviews, that will put the sale figure at around 480k, which is not half bad for a niche experimental game, and since it's not a particularly long game with appealing multiplayer, it's not a surprise CCU drops off hard after the first 2 weeks. I still haven't launched the game since September 25th - the day I finished it.

I'm more interested in its leg. This game doesn't strike me as having incredible word of mouth like Prey, general reception seems to be mixed and it was definitely overrated by the press. I loved it during the honeymoon phase, but looking back, it's definitely lackluster in a lot of parts and felt more like an expensive and very polished prototype.

I just want devs to acknowledge that "crouching is sneaky" is not the same thing as "sneaking is crouchy".

Thief 2
(2000) and Deadly Shadows (2004) had the "creep" function, where you could walk more quietly than crouching at the cost of being more visible. 20 years later, even the most sophisticated stealth games don't bother with more than one mode of stealth. Decline.

In thief 1 and 2 (and even in 3 IIRC), you can have effective stealth enven standing up. Most of detection was due to the sound propagation and floor types. Thief 3 had full silent crouch, but some floor like carpets, stone were silent enough to black jack a guard while in standing posture. Another thing was that metal and tile floors in thief 1/2 meant NOISE, and even crouching you would be detected, unless you creep, or move forward in small "W" presses while crouching.

Do people even have PS5's? I've never seen one for sale. In fact some people I've spoken to are confused when I tell them that there is even a new generation of consoles out.
Where are you from? They've been available around here for a while now.

The difference is that crawling prone like that is a thing a soldier might actually do in real-life, unlike the crouching of modern games. This is because the devs of Seal Team were basing their design on shit that actually makes sense for their game's setting and theme, unlike modern studios which just cannibalize older games and take all of their mechanics for granted (including Arkane, who shamelessly cannibalize slightly older games than other devs, so retards say that they are "exploring interesting design space").
