Expansion has been delayed until early 2022. Sunsetting has been sunset, Vault of Glass 2.0 soon, looks like Luke Smith has been demoted or something.
Destiny 2 has been saved
https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50124

What a shitshow. Everyone predicted what a failure Sunsetting was. Bungie practically sabotaged their PvP gameplay/playerbase adding Stasis (which is absolute broken cancer). Luke Smith is a WoW addict, imagine even hiring/promoting this fat fuck. At least their copy/pasting D1 content people actually enjoyed I guess.

It's almost time for the world first race for the new raid, releasing in a few hours. Well by new raid I mean a remaster of the first Destiny 1 raid, with new mechanics according to the devs. And probably a fuckton of champion minotaurs. People already discovered some broken combos with the new season gear so maybe there will be some interesting builds among the endless spam of Anarchy grenades.

Original for reference:

Vault of Glass World First Rules and Legal Terms

Fireteams who wish to compete in the World First race for the Vault of Glass raid will be able to do so when the raid launches on May 22, 2021, at 10 AM PDT (1700 UTC).

Please see below for the rules and legal terms of the Vault of Glass World First rewards.

Rules
The first Fireteam of 6 to complete the Vault of Glass raid then complete the Vault of Glass Challenge Mode and claim the Tempo's Edge Triumph will be declared World First by Bungie from @Bungie on Twitter after verification from our analytics team.

If a Fireteam cycled through different members during their attempt, the final 6 remaining upon the completion of the final encounter of the Challenge Mode activity where at least one member of the Fireteam claims the Tempo's Edge Triumph will be declared the winners and be awarded raid World First title belts.

The Fireteam must loot the final chest before returning to Orbit and claim the Triumph or their finish may not be recorded. A team's official finish will be recorded when they return to Orbit.

Legal Terms
This contest is void where any aspect of the contest is prohibited by law or where registration, bonding or translation is required. Bungie reserves the right to disqualify any participant who, in Bungie's reasonable suspicion, tampers with the game, violates our terms or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Bungie reserves the right, in its sole discretion and without prior notice, to suspend or cancel the contest or alter the rules for any reason.

and it's online:

Why wouldn't it? It's just a big cavern.

(The outside area is walled off from the rest of Venus so it doesn't take much extra space. Chronologically it doesn't make sense because any gear you get from it would have been destroyed in the vanilla D2 red war campaign, but whatever)

edit: lol

Disqualify second place.

E2Bs8TJXsAQ6a32
E2Bs8gLWQAAikzP

winners were apparently second place in the last race.

Also, it's good to know that the exploit from the first game is still there because they forgot to add a ledge near the boss.

It's not really about the game, but seeing someone fall victim to their hubris is always funny. Big streamer banned for cheating, tries to rally his fans into defending him, gets destroyed.

Oh, and apparently the anti-cheat is getting better so pvp might become playable again.

It always cracks me up when people say they are good at spotting cheats. If the player is trying just a little to hide it 99% of people would never know and if the cheat is like these expansive humanized ones you can even go pro with zero chance to get caught.

New season today. Introduced crossplay and anticheat .Apparently the BattleEye anti-cheat was cracked an hour after it was introduced.

:hero:

Came with a livestream showcase.

Also it looks like all the leaks were true. Only things not confirmed are the Halo crossover but some cosmetic items are so obviously Halo inspired that it's hard not to see it coming, and the new "vapour" class but that could have been just moved around the schedule.

When are they gonna vault the best content in the game (Forsaken) to make room for their new stuff? They said they were gonna do it eventually.

Leaker said the plan is to make Forsaken f2p at the end of this season, which would make sense because a new expansion will be out by then (february 2022). So if it's being vaulted it's gonna take a while yet.

also, playtesting, ho!

Nothing encourages me to pay money for a product like the creator of the product taking it away after an arbitrary period of time.

How the hell do people even justify this shit?
As outlined in that post, the content cycling was needed to keep updating this game at all. The change of plans about the future of the series after the Activision split (as in, there is not going to be a series, just this game being updated continuously) was something no one imagined when it was in development. Things were getting pretty unstable, I am now familiar with nearly all of Bungie's animal-themed error codes. Gotta catch them all.

For what it's worth the dreaming city location from Forsaken is staying, which is surprising since the story gave a good reason to put it away. Seems that the things being vaulted is the Beyond Light seasonal content (apart from the season of Chosen stuff, probably since it uses existing assets), the tangled shore location from Forsaken and its related quests (including the main campaign).

so if a new player buys the game they won't even be able to actually play the whole story, right?

right, there's no "story" to speak of now, original Red War campaign is long gone, all the "story" nowadays is a sitcom style treadmill narrative with a stupid asspull each season

Seems like they hedged their bets incredibly wrong if the engine itself is what is limiting their capacity for content by cancelling Destiny 3 and continuing Destiny 2 for the foreseeable future. Ideally Destiny would have a modular installation where people who want Y1 and Forsaken would just be able to install it with minor rebalancing taking place throughout the years. What a nightmare.

so if a new player buys the game they won't even be able to actually play the whole story, right?
Year 1's base game campaign, two DLC campaigns, strikes and raids were removed a year and a half ago equaling 40-50% of the game which was already content-starved prior to them removing all that stuff. Now they're gutting Forsaken minus the raid and the Dreaming City as a destination. Thank god because that's the only interesting zone the game has.

the campaign + lore was actually enjoyable along with the environments, the only part they seem to have actually left intact(and care about) is the worst part of the game
when I think of the game first thing I think about is how good/varied the environments looked tbh

there's some amusing space fantasy happening that's not done by any other games, the narrative itself is hamfisted and it's hard to take it seriously
but as I said some amusing space fantasy to be seen here

I stopped playing after the Mars missions. Now everything is just weird story wise. Mara Sov is dead in all the missions, even in the end of the dreaming city missions to bring her back. Yet in the seasonal content she is very much alive all of a sudden with no real explanation to be found outside of Youtube content. Saint 14 is alive...somehow. The traveller is healed somehow, the city factions did "Something" and are all gone. The Crow looks up to me as a guardian for some reason and Zavala likes him for saving him...from something. Osiris did a lot of something as well. The darkness that came over the city was also something something.

At this point Youtubers like Byf are mandatory to understanding even the most basic of plot elements.

The problem Echo mentions comes from how a lot of the playable game content is interwoven with obsolete story elements, some from removed expansions or referencing lore entries, so characters who died are talking to you about events the player can no longer access, or referring to things you have no way of experiencing first-hand, and these gameplay episodes are not redesigned to reflect the changes occurring to the universe. It's a thoroughly disorganized and incoherent mess that comes off as non-sequiturs.

Don't play this game. It's the most degenerate skinner box treadmill of our time. But instead of earning gear or cosmetics by playing the game, you unlock fanfic.net-tier "lore tabs" hidden inside the game submenus to glean a story from the baffling and random cutscenes and voice-acted segments. You know, the kind of thing that is otherwise reserved for flavor text or lore-building in respectable RPGs such as Deus Ex is used by Bungie to construct the core narrative because they're too cheap, disorganized, and incompetent to create a player-engaged, cinematic, real-time story since the Red War, the game's launch campaign (that was also removed).

Bungie time-locks these lore tabs too, making you spend days or even weeks obtaining them all to complete their entries so you can sit there and read some NPC's LiveJournal written by the exacting standards of a Comic-Con retard interning at Bungie. Destiny 2 is like an epistolary novel written by a rotation of anonymous thirteen year olds with its pages hidden at your local Church yard over months as a season-long Easter egg hunt.

They added a "the story so far" timeline node in the map so new players can catch up on the plot in-game, but it's pretty simple, with one paragraph per DLC. Also, it doesn't include the first game's plot, which is critical to fully understanding the second, so...yeah. (the Red War is a direct continuation of The Taken King and makes little sense if you didn't play it, and it's in TTK where you learn about Savathun, the current big bad, and the events that happened there with Uldren/Crow and Mara are the reason Forsaken happens at all)

(also there's a typo in the text above - should be "Techeun". bungo pls)

Business wise they made the right call, the game is doing well enough that the "Final Shape" expansion is planned for 2024 and it will be "the conclusion of the light and darkness saga" (as in, the entire plotline so far), meaning they have more in mind.

The "sunset" idea (level caps for gear) had a bigger backlash than the content vault, because players get attached to the gear they grinded for in activities that took a much larger part of their playing time than the campaigns.
