In case anyone is wondering about the current state of Rance X's translation, some people asked Steiner (the translator) recently. His responses:

"To put Rance X's size into perspective, a sizeable chunk of the game is translated and I'd still have to work solely on it for at least 4-5 hours a day (every day, including weekends and holidays) to finish the rest by the end of November 2022."

[How long on average do you work on Rance X per day or per week?]

"Varies. 1 to 5 hours in a day depending on the day. Some days I don't work on it. I can't prioritize it since I have other projects with more imminent paydays. In an ideal world I'd work on it full time."

...gonna be a while.

It's fair enough, so long as it's still coming and reaches completion before any fresh drama unfolds.

Does he have to hit any milestones, I wonder, seems like a pretty open-ended project in terms of timescale.

X is an obscenely long game, and isn't Steiner the one also known as Ludo? If so we have gone full circle.

It's highly probable (based on this information) that MG is aiming for Rance 9 in early 2022, rance 03+4 (or something along those lines) in 2023, with RanceX releasing after all the other games in 2024. They've never been shy about taking it slow before.

Which is stupid. Most players will have lost interest from 2024. With only hardcore fans remaining. I mean its not developping a game but just translating...

It makes sense not to prioritize Rance X, honestly, when there are still games before it unreleased - it's the biggest, grandest, and (I think) best game in the series. It also concludes the story. If they released X and then slowly dribbled out the games that came before it for the next few years, then people would really lose interest.

(I just wish they'd give it a little more priority than they seem to be giving it. It's the largest game script ever written and they've got one guy working on it part time. At this rate 3 years seems optimistic.)

It's not as if the series has much Mainstream appeal, don't you think?

I mean it should have, since the games (i have played) are excellent even without the rapey bits but that is kinda out of the question.

Those who are interested will wait however long it takes and those searching for "content" like this will find it in the future, this is an absolute niche.

The Alicesoft games are in a bit of a weird place in terms of popularity and Mangagamer continuing to work on them. The Rance series produces by far Mangagamer's best sales, though they're also by far the most expensive to make. In terms of actual net profit I doubt they're even in their top 10 for the year. But they also bring in a bigger audience and the most notoriety. Not to mention these games brought them (by all accounts) several quality translators who mainly want to work on these games. They've been able to squeeze several other non-Rance releases out of them too.

But what's really complicating things is Evenicle. That game got a Steam release and sales were (relatively for them) enormous, made the studio some actual money. Like, it grossed probably somewhere near a million dollars. Enough money that Alicesoft actually (at first) took release over for Evenicle 2 from Mangagamer to localize themselves, until Steam said "No, no, porno bad, no release."

So these games definitely do have appeal with the right presentation. Right now, because porno bad, I imagine these studios feel like they've got a cash cow that they can't bring to market.

Alicesoft has put out close to 100 games now. They could arrange to localize something cheaper and less objectionable like Pastel Chime ;)

Careful, the world isn't prepared for such incline. Imagine how the world would look like if, say, Sengoku Rance came out on Steam. The primitive brains of Bethestards and the like would get instantly overwhelmed. Rance and Sill would become household names. Rape cases would skyrocket, but never get reported, as women would enjoy it. Countries with high profile cuties, such as Kim's sister in Best Korea, would get instantly invaded by the entire world, everyone seeking to fuck the "princess". Yankees would be declared trash mobs anyone can kill free of consequences, thus depopulating America. Ugly women would be outlawed.

The world simply isn't ready for this.

Instead, we got a world that looks like a bad fanfic of Deus Ex with no cybernetics, even dumber AI, and no JC to save us all.

If only Alicesoft quietly proposed Sengoku Rance instead of Evenicle for Steam, before the censorship craze began...

It's because Sseth made a video about it and it has 2.3M views.

Sengoku Rance on steam
Yeah, no, I'd rather have a full complete drm free release from MG. You must be retarded to want it on a platform that forces you to use external patches to uncensor the game AND puts drm inside.
Steam doesn't force DRM, lots of indies have steam versions you can run without steam active.

Sengoku Rance on steam would be more incline because of the greater exposure (it deserves it). Obviously there is no way being sold on steam would make the game better.

Wasn't it mentioned in this thread or another that some of the woke nati-hentai reviewers of Steam would do everything to stop Rance games from being sold on Steam? Nevermind there are games here already like the multiple ones about Succubus without censorship or anything.

Good luck getting Sengoku Rance on Steam with "that" scene. When they even ban much tamer games with adult looking characters just because the setting is a high-school.

Simply put a fade-to-black and keep the dialogue.
A censorship patch that restores that scene and others would do the trick. Many of the hentai games just do that to bypass the arbitrary censorship.

Yes. I remember MG was offering a "streamer version" of Sengoku Rance. To play it on Twitch or YT.
I wonder why they didn't try to sell that one on Steam.

Yeah, like 0.1% of them, the rest has SteamStub.

I agree but you forget people are retarded and it can backfire, remember the trans poster drama from Cyberpunk, RapeLay or the hidden text in Ion Maiden? Now imagine this Imperial Juice Bottle simulator to his Steam and all the SJWs boycotting it, then Volvo decides to pull it off the store and tighten the porn games' regulations while at it.

Considering what "the scene" is about I'm pretty sure you'd have to cut the dialogue entirely as well, and just vaguely summarize it. At least with current steam policies, it seems evenicle has some really fucked up shit in it as well and they do sell that one.

Afaik Steam doesn't like this, and I wouldn't be surprised if they take some official stance/move against it at some point. I think currently the rule is you're not allowed to link to the patch from anywhere on steam, or insinuate it exists.

What's the details of the streamer version? Does it just cut the visuals or does it censor the scenes in general?

Meh. Better to lose the "war" in a decisive battle for a game worth fighting for than suffer defeat from a thousand cuts of exactly the cyberpunk/etc type.

IIRC the rape scenes in Evenicle are off-screen, with just audio recordings that Aster hears. That's a fair bit different from SR.

Nah, there's multiple onscreen unavoidable rape scenes during the course of Evenicle, dunno what the family friendly version does with it though...

I remember enjoying Sengoku Rance a lot several years ago. Might pick up Rance Quest soonish from MG.
