Almost 50% to our goal! ❤ Thank You Backers! ❤

Over 45% in 24 Hours!

What a fantastic opening day - thank all of you so much for being among our earliest supporters. It’s been such a privilege to have the opportunity to work on these projects and we can't do it without you. Also a huge shout-out to everyone who has been sharing on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and elsewhere!

cf70c34b05fdf634888acfc8fdfa4c11_original.gif

The Armorer loves what you're doing. Keep it up.

We’ll be posting regular updates here (every few days so as not to spam you!) but remember you can also follow us on Twitter @Juggernaut_News or Discord where we can always be found.

In between all the updating and kickstarting we are also still hard at work on the game - in a coming update expect a sneak preview of a brand new floor we’re hard at work on now ;) There's also a series of updates planned that highlight different features of the game and go into more detail on them, as requested by backers. If there's something in particular you'd like us to feature - please let us know in the comments!

We're also expanding the FAQ and sharing it here for those of you who might not have seen it yet.

FAQ
Q: What’s the word on the soundtrack?

A: We don't have anything definite to announce regarding the OST just yet, but we are committed to giving Chimera an atmospheric soundtrack that will work with and enhance the game.

Q: Will the game be available for Linux/Mac?

A: We intend to add Linux and MacOS support for launch once we've got a feature complete PC version.

Q: Will it be available on GOG / my platform of choice?

A: We have already spoken to GOG but don't have any definite news yet, however given that StarCrawlers is available on their store, we are confident StarCrawlers Chimera will be released there as well. We will announce here first when there's news regarding platforms.

Q: Will there be gamepad support?

A: Yes, we will be adding gamepad support as we get closer to launch.

Q: Will the game be localized in my language?

A: We hope so! Currently the game is only officialy localized for english, but the game is being designed with localization in mind and will have full support for other languages. You can see the localization in action by switching your language in the Options menu, but fair warning : it's all placeholder translations at the moment. We'll have more information on localization as we get further into development.

TLDR?
We're off and running! Help us keep the momentum by sharing the project to spread the word!

Preview : The Chemical Labs

We're over 66% funded and on our way towards the goal!

For this update, we're going to go into more detail about some of the features you'll encounter as you descend into the Chimera complex. One important lesson learned from StarCrawlers was that players really enjoyed our hand-crafted content paired with procedural elements. To avoid procedural fatigue though, we're focusing on making sure each floor of the game highlights new content : new enemies, traps, events, and gear are obvious choices, but we also want these things to introduce new gameplay mechanics. Each floor will feature a mix of both the familiar and new to keep things fresh. For example, we're going to highlight a specific floor :

The Chemical Labs
df48d72a537f3f731aefe08d254d5c3a_original.gif

Chimera Biopharma is known for researching, manufacturing, and push- . . . er, retailing a wide variety of chems. Their latest creations (and a few failed experiments) can all be found in the Chemical Labs. This floor will introduce new content not seen in previous floors, including enemies, hazards, items, and events. Here are just a few :

New Enemies : Oozes & Slimes
The oozes and slimes are a mix of semi-sentient chemical weapons, escaped test subjects, and horrific mistakes. They all want to kill you. Two variants are the Incineron Slime and the Amoebic Ooze.

Incineron Slimes are fast, enflamed, and flammable. When damaged, they have a tendency to burst into flames and leave a trail of fiery sludge behind them. As fire can spread (and spread to other slimes!), it's wise to separate herds or have an escape method at the ready.

cd5d966fb56f8ae8aef2460af9d47d97_original.gif

The Amoebic Ooze is a slow moving mass of beefy slime mold. As it takes damage, it sheds smaller globules that attack with increased speed and damage. When encountering several together, take care to focus your attacks or you could find yourself overwhelmed.

2802bb3aa9ba0682d0a4217bed9d6b90_original.gif

New Hazards : Chemical Canisters
Chimera stores all sorts of unstable mixtures in these labs (all perfectly legal, of course) and they shouldn’t be exposed to impacts / flames / void energy. Doing so may spread a random assortment of hazardous chemicals into the immediate vicinity - great when they’re next to enemies, not so great when next to you.

df77d1a406f69d99ec59c34d26049485_original.gif

New Items : Mystery Chems
New chems are being cooked up daily by the twisted scientists at Chimera. If you’re brave enough to ingest / coat yourself / inhale these mystery chems, you might find you are imbued with greatly increased strength, speed, or intellect. Or you might sprout tentacles. The possibilities are endless!

Other Cool Projects
We also like to highlight other cool projects that you might be interested in! This week we checked out both Farlanders and Kainga: Seeds of Civilization.

Farlanders
asks you to lead the charge in establishing a colony on Mars in this turn-based strategy game that will challenge you to not only survive, but thrive. Use specialized tools to terraform the planet, build residential areas for your colonizers, and construct resource-producing factories in an effort to become a self-sustaining society. Be wary of making your colonists unhappy as their satisfaction is of the utmost importance! Failure to keep the masses happy may result in devastating consequences.

We also backed Kainga: Seeds of Civilization, an ancient village-builder set in a fantasy world full of surprises. Massive beasts, weather events or other tribes pose a constant threat, but perhaps you can learn ways to live with them? Plus it has a castle on the back of giant crab!

Questions? Something you'd like to see in a future update? Let us know in the comments!

As always, thank you for your continued support as we push to 100%!

is the first game good compared to grimrock/vaporum?
I personally clocked 120 hours in original SC and loved the game. It seems simple but the combat is fun, with proper builds you can get pretty OP which is fun and less and less games allow the player to fullfill the power fantasy. The writing is quite good, to my surprise there were some choice and consequences and the game has multiple ending depending upon them.

It's better than Vaporum IMO, Grimrock is more oriented on puzzles which SC has almost none.

This unfortunately looks fugly so far.

in SC, most maps will be randomly generated, which is a downside compared to Grimrock. Itemization is color-coded randomly generated, which is also a minus.

But I agree with what VonMiskov said.

Final days of the Kickstarter Demo with new content!

There's just 10 days left in the StarCrawlers Chimera Kickstarter campaign and we are 85% of the way to our goal - it's been a whirlwind. If you were waiting to back, there's still time to grab spots in Alpha or a Beta copy at a discount!

We've been busy adding feedback and fixes into the demo build you've all been playing, and we've just added in some bonus content for the final stretch :

The Widow's Lair
Located in the south-west corner of the demo map, the Widow's Lair appears empty at first inspection, but explorers who uncover enough of the map will face a powerful foe who drops a key to reveal what's lurking in the Lair. Word of warning : save that game before you use the key.

If you've already defeated the powerful foe in your save, don't worry - the key will be waiting for you somewhere in the Lair.

Check out the Widow's Lair and then rage share your feelings in the comments!
Remember, we'll be ending the playtest demo when the campaign ends on 22 June. However if you're an Alpha Backer, you'll be able to jump into the first few levels of the game at the end of the month!

Thanks all!

We want to hear your opinion!

We're just over 70% and climbing steadily.

A word on scope
For those asking about the scale of StarCrawlers Chimera and how it differs from StarCrawlers, we've got answers! Fair warning, it's about to get pretty wordy and detailed ;D

Blobber vs. Solo Hero

We love party based dungeon crawls (see StarCrawlers), but we wanted to try something different with Chimera. We focused on the idea of a lone character facing a seemingly impossible challenge and players getting to choose their own builds and strategies from a huge range of abilities. Instead of a party of classes with set paths, you’re a single extraordinary individual with a range of skills, chose by you, the player. We have found that demo players have really enjoyed experimenting with different combinations and sharing their tactics and gameplay moments.

Into the Megadungeon

StarCrawlers featured a ton of optional side-missions created with procedural generation - but after multiple runs through the same environments (looking at you, Offices), players began to feel the proc-gen burnout. Learning from this, we’re focusing on more hand-crafted content with randomization layered into it. Each floor should have a distinct feel, specific enemies, and thematic events. You’ll still experience a dungeon that has a different layout and flow with each game, but important “big moment” rooms and events are constructed for a cohesive story experience (with some random twists added in!)

How deep does the dungeon go?

We have a roadmap to create 10 central floors in the Chimera complex - with optional visits to other locales along the way. If you’ve already played the demo, you’ve seen there’s already a lot to explore and do on each floor. On top of the central storyline you’ll make your way through as you descend, we’re adding chained events that play out over several floors. Your choices on floor 1 affects the outcome and choices on floor 2, which in turn affect how the event resolves on floor 3, and so on. We’re aiming to have a few major event chains and several smaller ones too.

More exciting things to post soon, including a sneak-peak at new enemies clawing their way up from the depths...

NEW STUFF : new rewards for all backers, new recruitment reward, and new concept art!

Backers, we are so close to our goal at over 80% funded

We're making great progress towards 100% and we've got new backer rewards, new recruitment rewards, and new concept art to share. Let's goooooo!

New Reward for all Backers
As a thank you for believing in the project, we're adding another backer reward when we reach 100% : all backers that pledged $15+ will receive the Mini VendorBot that can be summoned to cheerfully buy your unwanted items.

1a5281c42e21a6c2b463dd7111ec4687_original.png

New Recruitment Reward
Do you know someone who's thinking about backing but hasn't yet? (or you recruited someone already?) We've got something for you! After the campaign is complete, we'll be sending our surveys to all of our backers : if you recruited someone to join the campaign, simply note their Kickstarter name on the survey and if they note yours too, both of you will receive the Buddy Backer-pack upgrade that adds extra inventory slots.

cf7e445a643c1e429da5116d86acef9c_original.png

Not able to recruit? No worries! Everyone will be able to unlock other inventory upgrades inside the Chimera complex. * Space Monkeybear sold separately.
New Concept Art
Nafisah has been cooking up concept art for new enemies deep underneath the Chimera complex. Your support of the campaign will enable us to concept, create and code these enemies into existence. Clawing their way up next are the Mutts!

80c536b5b67678969ced9edc2584beed_original.png

Mutts are fast moving enemies that use a pack mentality to flank and corner their prey. Engineered by Chimera from a blend of dangerous creatures, they are aggressive, dangerous and unstable. When enraged during battle, they are prone to random mutations that can make them even deadlier.

THANK YOU to everyone backing the project, sharing it on social media, and joining us on Discord to discuss the game - you're making it happen!

- Juggernaut Games

New Shout Out
We love supporting indie games also, so we're excited to be backers for the amazing Wanderlost!

Survive then thrive in the cutest apocalypse of all time! Gather materials, craft diverse weapons and tools, build and fortify a shelter, explore a massive world filled with the secrets of a dead civilization and, whatever you do, stay clear of the zombies.

This seems to have recently reached its funding goal.

FINAL WEEK : 90% Funded, The Widow’s Lair, and new concept art!

Backers, one week to go and we are 90% funded

Welcome to all the new backers! Remember, if you’ve recruited someone to the campaign we’ll be asking in the backer survey for their Kickstarter user name to send both of you the Buddy Backer-pack Upgrade. If you’ve been thinking of someone who would enjoy the game, now’s a great time to let them know about the campaign!

cf7e445a643c1e429da5116d86acef9c_original.png

We’re hard at work on preparing the Alpha Backer build (new skills, gear & enemies!) and we’ve also updated the Kickstarter Demo build to add new content for the final week :

The Widow’s Lair
572e9ab71ef1e267fc9b29f51792589e_h264_high.jpg

Located in the south-west corner of the demo map, the Widow's Lair appears empty at first inspection, but explorers who uncover enough of the map will face a powerful foe who drops a key to reveal what's lurking in the Lair. Word of warning : save that game before you use the key.

If you've already defeated the powerful foe in your save, don't worry - the key will be waiting for you somewhere in the Lair.

New Concept Art
Chimera has been busy too - the same research program that spawned the Mutts from the last update has brought us the Centaurs this week.

0a89153a3e3875655a247b5c745b5276_original.png

Bred as elite shock troops for Chimera’s private army, the Centaurs are loyal, disciplined, and often found leading packs of Mutts into battle. The mightiest of them wield experimental tech from the secretive Chimera R&D labs and they’d love to test it out on you.

We'll have another update before the end of the campaign to share about the Alpha Backer build and what's coming next. For now : let's get that final 10% and make it happen!

- Juggernaut Games

New Shout Out
Lastly, there's another project on Kickstarter we are really excited about : How is the Water

How is the Water is a virtual ocean simulation and game for mobile devices, PC, and virtual reality; immersing players in the ocean, connecting them with marine life, and helping them create a real-world impact.

Explore mesmerizing marine environments, embody various marine species, and embark on a journey to preserve our oceans and the incredible marine life within them. Experience the ocean as a local, become a dolphin or a shark, invite your friends and escape into the magical world beneath the waves together. Immerse yourself using a virtual reality headset or play on a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

Kickstarter Demo coming to a close
A huge thank you to everyone who has been playing the demo on Steam and sending feedback and discussing the game on Discord. With the campaign coming to a close we'll also be ending the Kickstarter Demo in preparation for the Alpha release for backers later this month

FINAL FUNDING UPDATE : Funded! What happens now?

Backers, you’ve done it! You've closed out the campaign with over 133% funding and we’re fired up to get going!
7edcb9838cd0c1e4578f2d4d11e01f84_original.gif

( Technically it's 133% funded, but look how happy Plop is! )

What happens now?

When the confetti from the campaign settles, it's time for us to dive in and get to work to bring you StarCrawlers Chimera! Here's the plan :

1. Surveys go out to all backers this week. Please answer your survey to help us get you rewards asap!

2. Keys go out to Alpha+ backers next week. On the survey, we’ve included a question to request either a Steam or GOG key - your answer is vital to get the correct key.

  • For Steam keys : this will be a release override key giving you special access to the game.
  • For GOG keys : we are working with the GOG team to get keys generated, but there may be a short delay before we can provide these as the GOG system is different. We’ll share information as we get it.
3. Content Creator surveys end of July / August. After the initial surveys, we’ll be sending extended surveys out to content creators to start gathering information on your armor / weapons / monsters / quests. We'll be following up with each of you individually to schedule getting your content into the game.

4. Beta / Early Access planned for September. All keys will grant Beta access through Steam / GOG. You can start playing right away or wait for full release - the choice is yours!

How will we keep you updated on progress?
To avoid spamming, we’ll be keeping post-campaign updates through Kickstarter to major milestone announcements only, but you can always find us on Discord or send us a direct message through Kickstarter / Twitter / Facebook / Steam & GOG forums, or contact@juggernaut-games.com. We may not be able to respond right away, but we read everything and will get back to you!

In Closing
The campaign is coming to an end, but the real adventure is just beginning. We’ve met tons of new backers, reconnected with previous backers, and had great feedback already on Discord - we’re excited to get to work building this game with your support. With all our hearts :

Thank You!

PROGRESS UPDATE : Skill trees, Chemical Labs, & Alpha Progress

Backers, we’ve been busy and have lots to share with progress on skill trees, the Chemical Labs floor, and general Alpha progress - let’s go!

Skill Trees
Based on Alpha backer feedback, we’ve focused early development on expansion of the skill trees which Alpha backers have been experimenting with in the latest builds. At this point, there are 36 skill trees ready for play when we enter Early Access! We recently released the new Space Pirate, Bio Mods, Chaotic Mutant and Cursed! skill trees and Alpha backers have been playing with them and sharing their experiences with us on Discord. With this 1st round of skill trees complete, our next few updates will see improvements to the skill selection screen (previews!) and refinement and expansion of the abilities in each tree.

47cf3d99e819af4a9b20ebc8df64811a_original.png

With 36 different skill trees to choose from, you're sure to find a flavour you'll love.

The Chemical Labs
With the skill trees coming together, it’s time to forge deeper into the Chimera building into the Chemical Labs. We previewed this floor in a previous Kickstarter update and we’re gearing up to make it accessible in a future Alpha build. Our super-talented artist Tony has been working in his own laboratory to put together weapons and equipment for the Chemlab enemies to make sure your run ends in failure.

004019a9e58e1a49ef08e57f7f0359a6_original.png

The Chemical Corps favour shooting experimental substances directly into test subjects for quick results.

Alpha Progress Overview
So far, with support from the Alpha backers, Alpha has been rolling along smoothly! Each update has been successively fixing bugs, refining features, and adding content. With the majority of our base systems in place, we’re almost ready to start digging into additional flavor systems (ChimeraLinq, TFTs, etc), focusing on content production (Chemical Labs, new enemies, new loot!), and getting those Quality of Life feature requests in for testing.

Alpha Backer Alert
If you backed at a tier that offers Alpha access and haven’t yet responded to your survey to receive access through Steam or GOG - we need to hear from you! Please message us through Kickstarter or come shout at us on Discord to get set up.

What’s Next? & when is the next Kickstarter update?
The next big Alpha update will feature the Chemical Labs. On the horizon is Beta and Early Access release for Steam and In Dev release for GOG. The next Kickstarter update will come with the launch of Beta and the sending of keys to all the Beta backers. When there’s Beta news to share, we’ll be sharing it here first.

In Closing
As always, a huge thank you to all of our backers and special shout-out to everyone who has been playing in Alpha and guiding development with your feedback, bug reports, character builds and gameplay stories!

And I already exhausted my x-mas spending this month. Bah!

I've been noticing the sword tech & armor theme:

I bet I missed a few. Well, I guess I'll have to live with Vaporum: lockdown until next month.

Patch Notes for Beta 1.5.0 (25 November 2022)

Floor 4 : Production is now live!

Finally.
If you haven't been following on Discord, I’ve been dealing with health issues preventing me from updating at my usual speed. I’m happy to say they are behind me and more updates lie ahead. Production features new side contract mechanics, enemies, gear, weaponry, events, and a new boss fight.

The next patch (SOON™) will be focused on expanding and refining the skill trees based on player feedback.

NEW!
  • The Production floor features side contracts that can be completed for 2 different factions.
  • Added 8 new enemies on the Production floor.
  • Added a new optional boss fight on the Production floor.
  • Added 16 new gear & weapons on the Production floor.
  • Added “chance on block” effects to new shield equipment.
  • Boss rooms are now marked on the minimap.

Changes
  • Added initial support for 16:10 resolutions.
  • Weapons now have an item level that scales the weapons damage and stats based on the floor the weapon drops on.
  • When comparing shield items, lower shield regen will display as a positive change.
  • Resistances now provide a chance to resist their associated effects ie. Fire Resistance vs Burning, Cryo Resistance vs Chill, Shock Resistance vs Electrify, etc.
  • Burning / Bleeding / Gushing Wound / Poison no longer deal damage based on the victim’s max health. Against the player and minions, they deal damage based on the active floor. Against enemies, they deal damage based on the player’s level.

Ability Changes
  • The power of Rogue Modder has been modified.
  • Mod It Better now caps at 3 modifications on an item, the stats bonuses are allocated based on the equipment type, the rarity of the item boosts stat bonuses, and the stat bonuses now scale with points invested in the Rogue Modder skill tree. The chance to fail a modification increases quicker with each modification and is reduced by Rogue Modder rank.
  • Legacy items with 4+ mods from Mod It Better will have their base stats restored and 3 mods applied for free (with 0 chance of failure).
  • Item (Re)Designer can now be used on any gear or weapon of Common or higher rarity. The chance to fail a redesign increases quicker with each use and is reduced by Rogue Modder rank.
  • Illegal Weapon Modification damage and effect values have been adjusted and the Thunderflux Capacitor is no longer insanely OP.
  • IWM effects now show the weapon providing the effect and display correctly when two weapons share the same modification.
  • New IWM abilities coming soon!

Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with camera traps leaving a phantom camera mesh when disarmed.
  • Fixed an issue with bonus contract popups sometimes persisting.
  • Fixed an issue on the character creation menu that could block skill tree selection.
  • Fixed shield block logging showing a damage range for the amount blocked.

Ability Fixes
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Blademaster Lunge to move into an occupied square.
  • Fixed perked Skull Toss and Warp Wave buff both displaying as Brain Drain.
  • Fixed perked Skull Toss and Xeno Warp retaining perk effects after removing perk points.
  • The Skull Toss and Xeno Warp abilities will automatically return to the ability bar if their perk points are removed.
  • Fixed being able to drag abilities that switch between active and passive to the ability bar when in passive mode.
  • Fixed some counter / reflex attacks having a chance of targeting the player.
  • Minions will no longer target the player if the player injures themselves.
  • Enemy mobs will properly forget their grudges after a charm effect ends.

Coming Soon
(in no particular order)
  • Skill Tree Improvements : ability changes and balancing + new abilities

As always, thank you for your support!

Second.

The first had a lot of cool stuff in it, even if it didn't entirely gel all together. It even had a matrix system that was basically a copy of the Genesis Shadowrun matrix.

Yeah but the RPG system was very bare bones. I was hoping he would give us a sequel with better fleshed out RPG mechanics but oh well.
