I know about Xcom, Jagged Alliance 2, 7.62 High Calibre, Banner Saga, Battletech, and Shadowrun. I look tactical rpgs up on jewgle and all I get is animu. Just give me a "what to play" list.

I don't count underrail because you only control one character (still one of my favourite games).

Searching for my kidnapped sister
Silent Storm
Silent Storm Sentinels
Hammer & Sickle

they are three game in WW2 and post-WW2 era. Nice gunporn games~ And the correct progression is Jagged Alliance 2 -- Fallout Tactic --- then these 3 games. They share engines and assets so no big investment in time and energy to learn to play all 3.

Kinda like Fallout 2 proper, Fallout Ettu, and Fallout 1.5 Resurrection.

The one Pokemon game with tactical combat, Conquest, unfortunately doesn't have pidgeys, and it's not pirate-themed anyway so it fails the 'arr' requirement. I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Seconding Silent Storm and Silent Storm Sentinels, and also Battle Brothers. Warhammer Chaos Gate and Mordheim are also good. Start with X-COM and JA2 though.

Silent Storm and Sentinels definitely. As for Hammer and Sickle, your mileage may vary, I didn't like it but it's obviously a good game in the vein of the other two.

Jagged Alliance 2 (enjoy the voice acting, enjoy the combat)
Blackguards 1 (Pretty good, arena section in last 3rdish of game might drag)
Silent Storm (while fun it is kinda un-finished polished)
Battle Brothers (no story all combat goodness)
Expedetions:Viking (Very well done story, fixes SOME issue with the 1st conquistador game)
Expedetions:Conquistador (Lot of people will harp about how unique the setting is RPGwise, but tbh it isn't used all that well, stealing events are very frequent.... still fun to go through with your way)
Shadowrun Dragonfall (it is streamlined combat wise so you can enjoy the setting or w/e)

If you like goldbox: (and exhausted FRUA)
Realmz
Dungeons of Chaos
Knights of the Chalice
Old School Computer Game
Nox Archaist
Realms of Antiquity: The Shattered Crown - Ultima-like retro RPG

Old:
Wizard's Crown/Eternal Dagger
Shard of Spring/Demon's Winter
Disciples of Steel

Maybe:
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor
With the piratey talk I would mention Pirates of Realmspace but lordy is it buggy. Better off with Dark Sun (SL & WOR).

Games I just am uncertain about:
Telepath RPG: Servants of God
Skald: Against the Black Priory - the Prologue
Urtuk: The Desolation - open-world dark fantasy turn-based RPG

Not Released & maybe dead:
Realms Beyond
Pity about Seven Dragons Saga
Unknown Realm: The Siege Perilous - an 8-bit RPG for PC and Commodore 64 (most likely DEAD)

I was looking on my desktop and noticed Low Magic Age. I must've picked it up on sale. It works pretty good but i only tried an arena battle.

How's that one btw? Been rotting in my steam backlog and I wouldn't mind playing a new tactical game that's not nuxcom-like or jap "tac" rpg-like.

I'd rate it as ok, picked it up for like 2£ on sale and had a decently fun run with it. Admittedly the game's setting and visuals/ost did help carry it for me.
Wouldn't put it on the same tier as Templar Battleforce but I liked it for what it was and there was enough to keep me interested for a single run.

Unfortunately it is very much nuxcom-like with a 2 AP system and a lot of the skills are ripped straight from that game so yeah it does not seem like it would be up your alley if that's a deal breaker.

Just remembered Towers of Time, which is coincidentally on sale atm.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/617480/Tower_of_Time/

Its real time with pause which is going to be an automatic turn off for some and there is a lot of exploring and running around but game itself is well solid and the story (admittedly not usually what matters in a tactical rpg) really got me invested.
