Stockholm, Sweden, November 22nd 2021 – This year marks the 60th birthday of influential fantasy and sci-fi writer Michael Moorcock’s literary character Elric, last emperor of the island-kingdom of Melniboné. In conjunction with the anniversary of the dark fantasy epic Swedish IP developer Runatyr have acquired the rights to produce a narrative action computer game that will be based on the first six books of the Elric saga.

The video game, titled Elric of Melniboné will be the first audio visual adaptation of the originating epic tale of dark fantasy that has had an immense influence on the genre as a whole and IPs such as Warhammer, The Witcher, Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon in particular.

Developed in a collaborative effort by senior developers behind titles such as Vermintide, War of The Roses and Fable, between Runatyr, Swedish development collective Aurora Punks and UK based studio Upstream Arcade, the game is planned for a 2024 release on PC and consoles.

“Elric is my favorite fantasy character and it feels absolutely amazing that Elric will finally come to life in a video game.” says Yasin Hillborg, creative director at Runatyr. Michael Moorcock is said to have taken a liking to the narrative presented as the story told within the game and will take part in the development.

On the subject of a video game adaptation of Michael Moorcock’s iconic hero the writer has this to say, "For many years I have looked forward to seeing Elric translated into a state of the art video game and at last it looks as if Runatyr are going to bring that dream to fruition! I am sure they will make the best game possible!"

Swedish devs? Moorcock? It's gonna be woke as shit no doubt. No word on the actual gameplay is always a great sign.

Gameplay? Didn't you see "narrative action game" in the title? Made by Swedes... It's going to end up as a nauseating mix of QTE events and a visual novel

Rapey fantasy books adapted by a woke studio to be a QTE narrative game, lmao this looks like conjured specifically to trigger the Codex.

I was excited by the thread subject, then I came and read the list of developers and their little spiels. 95% probability that this is going to be absolute shite, but I hope I'm wrong.

In before CDPR quashes this project by suing for copyright violations.

Considering that Moorcock was supper butthurt about the Witcher games that would be hilarious.

Always thought Elric books were kind of bland.

But, talking of rape, his Gloriana, or The Unfulfill'd Queen is quite underrated, and I happily recommend it to all amateur of decadence, Victorian uchronia, and sexual deviance.

If you think Geralt and Elric are similar beyond the white hair you're literally retarded.
What angers some people seems to be how Sapkowski avoided admitting any inspiration. for example he could've said that Geralt was a homage to Elric, if he was open about it from the get go the people wouldn't be making any fuss over it. It's a bit like Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark situation, where it took Shinji Mikami almost 20 years to admit that he saw and played Alone in the Dark and that it influenced the way RE turned out.

Well, I hated Sapkowki's writing and never read anything about Elric, but they're literally both called "White Wolf". So there's at least one more thing beyond white hair (connected but a bit more obvious) that's not even similar but exactly the same. Also, don't both Elric and Geralt have weird eyes that are constantly underlined in their descriptions?

He has no need to admit anything. "Swordsman with white hair" is something you find in goddamn 17th century wuxia novels. It's not some super sekret OC donutsteel idea.

Geralt quaffs potions to stay sharp. Elric used to keep himself up with potions until he's got his sword.

Okay. Listen up kids, you might learn something.

Elric: Albino
Geralt: Mutated via medieval fantasy genetics

Elric: Last of his race
Geralt: A random dude

Elric: Emperor by birthright
Geralt: An orphan they snatched

Elric: Wizardly powers due to ancient pacts with demons and elementals
Geralt: Some low level magic tricks to help with his job

Elric: Only uses the Black Blade
Geralt: Uses whatever is necessary for the task at hand

Elric: Only two love interests
Geralt: Fucks a lot. A LOT.

There's more but these are the basics.

Not really, the short stories have a lot of "the world is changing, the witchers are getting obsolete" sentiment, so Geralt is one of the dying breed, too.

Elric: Only two love interests
Geralt: Fucks a lot. A LOT.

How do these contradict each other? Elric fucks a lot, too. In fact, Geralt also has two love interests (Jennifer and Triss).

I know nothing about this whole Elric thing aside from its influence on Warhammer tbh. If this just turns out to be Batman: Arkham Asylum: The Witcher Edition: Elric of Melniboné Edition & Knuckles: Now with Sex: LGBT Ally Edition then I'm not interested.

By the time Elrics Story really takes off, the Melniboneans are already dead. In comparison, witchers were always rare but there are still enough around to form entire schools.

Elric doesn't sleep around the same way Geralt does, he murders Cymoril, then a whole lot of nothing, then he meets that other girl.

And when does it really take off? Melniboneans are very much around if declined and dwindled in the first novel, and Elric is the one involved in finishing them off in what was, I think, the first published Elric story before that.

That is not what you said. Yes, I'm nitpicking but you if you claim similarities end on white hair — whether you're being facetious or not — and I can name at least two more then who's the retard?

Both are of a dying breed of sorts, so you're also incorrect on this one. I wouldn't care either way but for the sake of being a contrarian you're using a very flawed line of argumentation.
