So I found this cool game a few months back looking for a game like PSO.
(Japanese stream)
And yeah, it is a little like PSO if it was in something like the Ys universe. Ruins of the Lost Kingdom Chronicle is MMO spinoff of a single player ARPG just called Ruins of the Lost Kingdom. Other than the fun action combat (that is pretty simple but requires a lot of timing), I'm innately attracted to it due to the PS2-esque graphics and music. It came out, according to GameBomb, around 2008 and the MMO part came out in 2012. So it sort of fits as an indie game. It's a one time purchase and you can self-host the MMO part if you want so it's more or less just a normal game.
I can't read a lick of it, and there's a very small English following that translated a few of the stuff on wikis and such.
There's a very small community of English speakers who like it, literally less than a dozen.
There's a demo on their website which is pretty neat. http://www.tomoshibi.net/guide/rolo/p04_0.html
I kind of hope one day it'll be in English but there's, I think, a shitton of stuff in this game to go through. I can at least say the combat is very fun though.
