Earlier this year, Rhauntavan announced his intention to release a public demo of Call of Saregnar, his highly anticipated homage to Betrayal at Krondor. The demo was released on Steam today, just in time for Christmas. According to the brief announcement on publisher In The Keep's website, it's basically a fleshed out version of last year's private backer demo, although there is some new content as well. There's no launch trailer, so I'll just quote the announcement here:

Dina has finally made up her mind! You can now snag the first official public demo for Call of Saregnar on Steam! Everyone on the dev team has been busting their butts to get this demo to you by Christmas so Ho-Ho-Hold any negative comments til after they've had time to spend the holiday with their families!

The public demo expands upon many of the areas and ideas behind the previous closed demo. While there is a fair amount of additional content, the majority of the work that went into this demo was getting the game into the smoothest version of itself that we could, and finishing the content that had previously been absent from the already created gameplay areas.

Thank you for checking out our demo! Please let us know how you feel about it through the proper channels.
What a lovely way to end the year. You can grab the demo of Call of Saregnar on Steam. According to the FAQ in the game's Steam discussion forum, an Early Access release is planned for 2022.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Playing the demo. It Seems that some exposition tidbits hint towards Sam's ominous side. Thrilled to find out more, a good ol' rogue can't go without his share of involvements into shady matters.
BTW, where I can find documentation in regards of character stats and skills?

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Cozy demo. Really come to like the main characters already, very charming writing. Might be tutorial, but the enemies seem very very easy to kill. Think they did 1-2 damage to me while I just blasted them away. So I do hope later combat gets much more involved and dangerous. Game just feels wholesome to play, the few hours I tried it out anyway. Will not play too much because of spoilers, but looks promising.

Yeah if they can keep this good work up for a few years they are really onto something special. Of course they have my full support.

Pretty cool but when I tried to load my save it was just a black screen. Sound and music were there, but no video. Hope that gets fixed for the release.

I liked it, it's much better than the private demo released for Patreon supporters a year or two ago.

Don't get me wrong, that demo was good too, but it was just a taste of things to come. This one is much bigger.

Cant wait to get home and try this out!

Rhuantavan any idea how long this gem will stay in Early Access? Last year you predicted a 2024 - 2025 release for the full game I believe, but assuming you get enough monies from EA access to work on this full time, when do you think you can fully complete the game (you will have to resist feature creep pressure from your backers / steam forums though)

The prediction stays, I think.

If by any chance you do start getting significantly increased income from the Early Access (like Andhaira suggested) you should considering hiring additional team members to shorten the development cycle. Using crowdfunding and/or pre-orders to secure a long-term job and financial stability is a scammy (mal)practice, no matter how many developers (ab)use it.

If sticking to the prediction of 2024-2025 release is simply to avoid setting unrealistic expectations and subsequent disappointment from postponing the release - then more power to you.

Rhuantavan I'm enjoying the demo, great job!

A couple of things:

-Music is too loud vis a vis narration and sound effects
-I wish you had added text adventures that made use of skills; but I guess it would take away time from development so no need to do it now.
-How many spells in the demo? I only have the 2 we start out with thus far; I rested at the abandoned temple near the demo's edge and hoped to get a new spell but nada.
-A lore question: Are mages the same as 'divine' priests in other games? If so, why aren't they part of temples, and do regular temple clergy also get the same spells?

Might be worth searching around more to find a cave if you’re after another spell…
