A lot of RPGs allow you to do both. Do you drag and drop your items to equip them or click to equip?

Single click to select/combine, double to equip.

This provided your game doesn't feature dual wielding, otherwise you'll need to add drag and drop option too.

No reason not to have both click (double-click probably better) and drag-and-drop.

This provided your game doesn't feature dual wielding, otherwise you'll need to add drag and drop option too.
Or left-click, left-hand, right-click, right-hand.

I'd rather keep RMB for contextual menus exclusively. In the case of an inventory, stuff like drop, break down, or well, even equip in the secondary hand.
I suppose a good middle ground would be displaying a quick access key combo on hover over each option, so that you know next time you can just alt+LMB to equip in hand 2.

I like both in the same game.

When I'm being lazy I'll drag and drop out of instinct, when I'm paying attention and trying hard I'll remember the click equip and can go through and mass equip things a lot faster

I appreciate both but I always end up dragging and dropping the majority of the time if it's an option.

Drag and drop is more satisfying. PC exclusive feature as well.

I usually double-click,
except when there are several fitting slots and double-click will always replace the item in the wrong one.
In such cases I have to drag-and-drop.
