Who is behind the NFT in gaming push?

In hindsight it's obvious

Playing MMORPGs = earning gold = earning cash money

In game assets typically have a gold value, so they are also worth dollars.

Because our economy is based on complex financial shenanigans and sleight of hand, new financial instruments have to be created for this new digital asset class, so that "people" can trade them, otherwise economic opportunities will be lost.

For example, you can fractionalize your character's magic sword; breaking up ownership of it into multiple shares that could then be sold and traded on a secondary market. You could also borrow and lend against these assets.

"People" are pushing NFTs because they want their cut of the gold you are earning in online games.

YouTube CEO says NFTs and crypto present a 'previously unimaginable opportunity':
CEO of one of the most powerful corporations in the world from her MacBook Pro 16”: NFTs are the future and awesome, NFT Chads are hot.
Incels sitting in their mother's basement in their underpants playing D20 RPGs on their Linux second-hand ThinkPad: NFTs are a scam and the gymbros selling them are stupid for making money from nothing.

Guess who will be on the right side of economic history?

yeah, google has never bet on fads then quickly abandoned them shortly after
anyone want to discuss stadia?
If Google didn't make the right bets they would not be the biggest internet corporation out there. The Stadia is the future but they bet on that future before it had matured. Easy mistake to make when you are living the lifestyle of someone a century ahead of everyone else.

It's like thinking whether you should support senate or the emperor when the city is besieged by superior barbarian hordes.

Standin' pretty. In this dust that was a city.
Game industry CEOs and the like. As said countless times, entertainment industry be it movies or games became an investment. For the latter it's all about appeasing shareholders by maintaining the returns they got from micro transactions, before people got somewhat aware how retarded those were. All the gaming-as-service, monetization and other player retention methods will get shilled to oblivion as long as they see possible returns in them.

Half of major developers deciding overnight to back experimental monkey picture technology does not happen organically.

Why did half of all major developers like 5 years ago decide to turn their games into mobile p2w shit and sell KKKONTENT PAKKKS and 45 DLC's for what should have been in the game in the first place ?

I get the technical idea behind NFTs, but what can they do that DRM can't ? In both case you pay for some virtual shit that can't be duplicated and depends on the internet. What is the added value of running on the blockchain, apart from wasting valuable electricity ?

NFTs don't even grant you the functionality of a DRM system. It's just a receipt you can wave around to claim you own something whilst everyone continues to do whatever they want with it.

Reminds me of the Tulip Mania. Excerpt from Mackay :

Many individuals suddenly became rich. A golden bait hung temptingly out before the people, and, one after the other, they rushed to the tulip marts, like flies around a honey-pot. Every one imagined that the passion for tulips would last for ever, and that the wealthy from every part of the world would send to Holland, and pay whatever prices were asked for them. The riches of Europe would be concentrated on the shores of the Zuyder Zee, and poverty banished from the favoured clime of Holland. Nobles, citizens, farmers, mechanics, seamen, footmen, maidservants, even chimney sweeps and old clotheswomen, dabbled in tulips.

And a contemporary painting from Brueghel the Younger :

Quite funny how the madmen are painted as monkeys.

Theoretical cross-game portability of items etc, in the minds of retards who have no fucking idea how a game engine works.

Well, most of the retards pushing this seem to be cryptobros rather than gamers. They probably have no idea how vidya works.

You don't need a BLOOOOOOK chain to do anything nftards want to use nft for, a regular database would work just as well.

The idea that there will be cross-game compatibility outside of games made by the same dev is hilarious.

Merida, again
NFTs are just a way for people to move their crypto, like explained before. NFTs are also useful for other types of wealth accumulation, which is why certain industries are pushing it. However, it only makes the already fat cats fatter. You as a user get nothing. There is a good video recently posted on the crypto thread that does a well enough job of exposing these technologies. In the end it's just people wanting to make money in an irresponsible and detrimental way. Nothing new really.

The real value of nfts will come when they are being used to store title deeds and such.

But as for the current monkey picture usage - lol. Worse than tulip mania.

Ubisoft took criticism about Quartz to heart and their "blockchain specialist" responds:
cover1.jpg

I think gamers don't get what a digital secondary market can bring to them. For now, because of the current situation and context of NFTs, gamers really believe it's first destroying the planet, and second just a tool for speculation. But what we [at Ubisoft] are seeing first is the end game. The end game is about giving players the opportunity to resell their items once they're finished with them or they're finished playing the game itself.

So, it's really, for them. It's really beneficial. But they don't get it for now.
