JRPG as in 'rpg made in japan'? Because I could try make a list of the oldest ones of those worth playing, but if you mean as in 'plays like final fantasy' then it's probably not worthwhile.

RPGs made in Japan. I've tried my luck with the first four Dragon Quest games but haven't really liked them (I'm in the process of finishing IV, though) and I saw you said you couldn't get it into them either, so maybe you can recommend me something better.
