The biggest failure of the social democrats has always been their unwillingness to work together with other more leftist structures, and due to that they have shifted so far to the center they lost all power and profile, did a lot of damage to society and became a tool for the liberals, quite a sad fate

There certainly are ideologically earnest people among the SocDems and democratic socialists, but the professionalization of politics inevitably leads to complacency vis-a-vis the system. You don't bite the hand that feeds you after all.

Current day SocDems are so in name only, much different from the earliest one (who weren't perfect, but at least no sellouts), and you can see it in a couple of countries, not just Germany

I am guessing that, unlike me, you engage in the act of voting, so which poison do you prefer - SPD or Die Linke?

I think a lot of them have failed to realize what the early SocDems did, that "social welfare systems" weren't social virtue signalling, but a bulwark against the masses revolting and cutting their throats, and a if they don't learn it the easy way, they will eventually learn it the hard way

Linke, I did a side trip for a couple of years for the Piraten, but when they proved utterly incompetent I stopped that

Oh, it's much more than that which is at fault for the sorry state of things. The historical SocDems of the Second International period were first and foremost Marxists working towards the abolition of class distinctions. Contemporary SocDems on the other hand are simply the left-leaning tendency of an unified liberal ideology which pervades throughout the whole political system (excluding a few fringe parties).

Would've been my first choice as well were I a German citizen and interested in doing my 'civic duty' as it were. The SPD are too bland and the Greens, beyond some ideological idiocies which I could forgive, seem to miss the forest for the trees and focus on the wrong issues.

I would vote Linke if they stopped having Stalinists and Trotzkists in their party and stopped sucking Putins wiener.

So who do you vote for, RP? SPD or the Greens?

They are both so pathetic. :( Prob SPD because Greens are becoming the rich mans party.

At least it'd be theoretically easier in Germany to start a new party due to its type of proportional electoral system.
