They don't start that way, RPGs do it to them. RPGs make men into monsters.

To be fair I really don't see myself playing rpgs anymore. I'm up for a good metroidivania, hack&slash or a strategy game anytime, but just thinking about slogging through 60+ hours of bullshit repetitive combat encounters and boring dialogues like new baldur's gate or something like that makes me want to turn off the pc and go do anything else

The genre of artificially lengthed boring timewaisters doesn't really look as appealing as before, plus RPGs basically lack the "gitgud dopamine strike" effect that other genres have, which is one of the main reasons I play videogames at all

It's just burnout from playing new, shitty RPGs. Try playing older, better ones to see if that sparks anything.

You either breeze through encounters with a good build or cheese/savescum your way to the end with a LARP one, your actual skill has minimal impact considering how simplistic RPG combat usually is even in more "tactical" entries, as opposed to action or strategy games that rely on your skill and give you a nice satisfaction feeling of mastering them

If you had a job you wouldn't have enough time to waste on over analyzing toys.
