With respect to the nature of the gameplay, your character talks with and receives missions from a number of NPC characters. You then move about the ship using a series of terminals known collectively as the Umbilical. These become accessible when they are unlocked by ciphers called, yes, umbilical codes. Once you arrive at any given destination, the order of the day is combat with just about every creature or mechanical being you encounter. The pace of the action is moderate; provided you have a few health packs and avoid being drawn into situations where you're badly outnumbered, your chances of survival are decent even if you don't possess lightning reflexes. With further tweaking and balancing certain to be evident in the release build, it seems likely Harbinger will be playable by a wide range of gamers. The user interface should pose little or no barrier; movement and combat involve nothing more than clicking or clicking and holding the left and right mouse buttons. Health packs have a hot button and equip automatically as long as you have any left in inventory. You can pause at any time, but cannot queue commands, shuffle inventory, etc.
