Those guys over at <A href="http://www.firingsquad.com/">FiringSquad</a> never miss the opportunity for some backdoor action, and this time it pays off with their <a href="http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=10262">preview</a> of <a href="http://www.irrationalgames.com/">Irrational Games</a>' upcoming scary, first person CRPG, <b>BioShock</b>. Here's a very exciting clip:
<br>
<blockquote>It's clear that the developers at Irrational are going all out to make BioShock as unverving and at the same time as fun as possible. Part of their goal is to make the game's water the best looking water ever made for a game and based on the E3 demo they are on the right track with reflections, shadowing and ripple effects that look photorealistic. Indeed the graphics engine for BioShock makes the game among the best looking at E3.</blockquote>

Water is always unverving and fun.

Maybe they should worry less on water effects and make a damn patch for Swat 4: SS. So what if Take2 and Vivenda are rivals, do it for the fans.

does this photorealistic bloat feature that will raise the min specs considerably actually have something to do with the gameplay ? because the "ooooh nice water" feeling lasts like 5 seconds

In my head.
Keyword: Imurshion.

I mean shiny water has topped my "must have" feature list for, and especially, crpgs..

Ever since TakeTwo said Bioshock would be a xpox360 as well I've began to notice things about the game I'm unsure of, maybe I had rose coloured glasses on and ignored them or maybe their are buggering up a game I have waited 8 years for because of those console fucks I have no idea but its no longer on my "must get list"

I just wanna know what's so "unverving" about it.

yay, cool water, but still with terrible pop-in and short draw distances! Slightly more immersive!

I want this game to be good...here's hoping they don't nerf it for the console....

it will be nerfed, all games that are being developed for consoles get nerfed.
when you design a program to work on several systems then you usually make it so it would work on the one with most limitations (aka, consoles) with stupidly limited memory yet incredible powerful graphic cards that once ported to pc give you a game with absurdly small locations that need a 2k box to reach 30fps on the lowest settings with that "awesome" and transilvanian foggy look with creatures that seem to spawn right over you

oh yeah and i have a suspicion that microsoft makes xbox360 game developers sign a "the pc version will be at least as crappy as the xbox version" contract that doesnt even allow them to make a different, more pc friendly, gui

I hear ya. I didn't really like SS2 all that much, but I was considering checking out this one. Hearing it's a port makes me a hell of a lot more inclined to ignore this completely.

Here's a video interview
http://xboxmovies.teamxbox.com/xbox-360 ... Interview/

I was dissapointed with the talk of it being actiony like Diablo and Oblivion. I like how they want to have AIs with relationships to each other.

I wasn't going to buy it anyways, but I'm still happier to hear that good games are being made than the crap that's basically turned me off gaming.

If half of the atmosphere relies on "omg underwater, shit look at that leak" I'll happily pay a few fps to have it not look like ass. For water, really, there may as well be no middle-ground between "animated texture on a transparent quad" and "awesome." It looks like a joke unless you put some serious effort into it, regardless of tech.
