We've managed to <a href=http://www.rpgcodex.com/content.php?id=146>take a look</a> at <a href=http://www.bioware.com>Bioware</a>'s jap-slapping, role-playing extravaganza - <a href=http://jade.bioware.com>Jade Empire: Special Edition</a>. We deliver the goods:<blockquote>There’s been some remarks about how Jade Empire focuses more on action than role-playing. This isn’t entirely far from the truth: most of the game revolves around combat, and this is reflected in the large amount of styles available to the PC. Additionally, the game’s short length doesn’t provide as much content or exploration as Knights of the Old Republic or Baldur’s Gate 2. When compared to Bioware’s previous role-playing titles it’s also bereft of many character development options. There’s no stealth to speak of, for instance, and no skills that are based on environmental interaction such as lock picking. Because of this, the main venues for character advancement rely mainly on combat and dialogue. This produces an unusual change in the company's usual formula: while the by now classic Bioware dialogue that tries to appeal to the altruistic, the money grubber or the raving lunatic inside all of us is still there, and there’s not as much dialogue as in their past games, there’s more importance given to it this time around, with plenty of quests and interactions being somewhat more developed and offering some more role-playing opportunities to their formula. It’s perhaps then safe to say that there is a great deal of action and that the role-playing, while generally less, is perhaps more focused on the paths it offers. The downside is that if you are looking for character diversity or other role-playing venues, you won't find them. And if you don't enjoy the dialogue or the combat, chances are you won't like what the game has to offer.</blockquote>There are a couple of pearls in the mud, but I really wish they'd done more with the game.

This produces an unusual change in the company's usual formula

I for one would like to see more usual changes in the usual formulas. As long as its immersive and next-gen.

As for JE: Meh. I finished it - which is more than I can say for most games - but I wouldn't buy a sequel.

Edit: Ah, it's the Codex review. Perhaps I should read it...

Why are there two threads about this??

I remember asking a similar question about another incident of this. If I remember correctly, there's one for the article itself, and one for the news announcement of the article. Which seems redundant, given that most articles get announced as news (otherwise most people wouldn't know they were there), but I think it's something to do with the initial programming of the forum software or some other blah blah blah.

Either that, or it's some kind of evolution experiment where the thread to survive and multiply isn't the one that gets retardoed by spamming, trolling, or posting of the hairy porn.

Nice long review, I already felt that kotor was a huge improvement over nwn so now I'll definitely give this one a try.

As for the homosexual romances featured in bio games I blame their forum boards.

I remember I tried to 'spice up' one of my replays of BGII by downloading the Chloe mode thinking it would be great if she romanced Imoen.

Unfortunately she ended being rather butch. So I had no choice but to kill her and then watched her body explode.

Yeah, I've noticed Codexers love slagging off TES forums (which, they do bring on themselves, admittedly) and the Bioware boards.... but it is these Codex forums that are infinitely more retarded.

Don't lie Volourn. The truth about JE is here in this honest and brave game review.

Why did you post this? Isn't this an Oblivion site?

Is this all you can say? Heck, why aren't you dumbfucked already with all these crap comments lately.

On Topic: The game looks quite good and it sounds interesting to try out. Even though there is less dialogue, I like the fact that the dialogue which is there has more importance, as this is the thing which matters, IMO. If you can advance the game through dialogue, it's good. I guess I'll pick it up when it's a bit cheaper, as I'm short of money now.

So is JE going to be reviewed by the codex? Judging from this review JE is a combat feast, with dialog well done but restricted to combat paths. Nothing comparable to Planescape Torment or even Baldurs Gate 2.

Well I can understand ... for Role-player its either Socrates diploma or a half-assed action RPG for amusement.

I'm one of the few people here who like Bioware. And I don't even want to go near their forums. Everyone there takes campy games way too damn seriously. And the Elder Scrolls forums; Never posted there, probably never want to.

For the dumbfuck. It's always nice to read an honest and brave review that in all honesty and truth gives it right up Biowares ass and their lame roleplaying games.
