<a href=http://www.gamernode.com>GamerNode</a>'s newest contributor Thomas Beekers has posted a <a href=http://www.gamernode.com/Previews/4100-Drakensang-The-Dark-Eye/index.html>Drakensang preview</a>:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>From the announcement onwards, this game has been marketed as "Baldur's Gate in 3D." The developers have made it clear that this game is not a sequel to the classic series, but another take at the DSA world in a cRPG setting. Fair enough, but the question becomes "how good is their take?"
<br>
<br>
The tentative answer is "not bad." </blockquote>Sadly, this conclusion is drawn mostly from developers' promises and wishful thinking, but let's give Thomas Beekers, whoever he is, a break this time.

I will fight anyone who doesn't give me a break!

The game looks good, if pretty last-gen (lol). The whole classic RoA vs Baldur's Gate in 3D is shitty for you guys but good news for most other people.

With all else neither good nor bad, its quality, in my mind, really does depend almost completely on quality of writing of quests and dialogue. And that's simply an unknown, beyond "they have good writers", balanced out with "we're shortening dialogue!"

Anyway, mainstream take. If I were writing for the Codex (lol) I'd have another take

I think thats some kind of a reluctant application. :wink:
Seriously - I'd like to see a Drakensang preview by Brother None on the Codex.

And concerning the current state of the genre "not bad" would be good enough for me. *Sigh*

Ok. Why? Why would we do that? It doesn't feel right. I don't really trust any of these types anymore.

Did you...did you just call me a "type"? I've been called a lot of things lately, but never a type

Would love to, since I seem to be running all over the place anyway, but can't. All my non-Fallout related writing will be pasted to GameBanshee.

I might do a second take for GameBanshee, more from a PnP/RoA (NLT) perspective. Could always use some feedback prior to that.

Consider the state of the genre I'd be ecstatic with a BG2-quality game in 3D. And that's really sad.

I'd be enthusiastic if there was a BG2 kind of game in 2D. Might be sad, actually.

Whoops. Didn't really read your post :lol:

But while you're here... why should I trust you? Are you trustworthy?

In fact, according to most reports, I'm a criminal who ruined all professional media coverage and a psychopath. Expect the next professional media coverage of NMA to say I'm "internet's Osama Bin Laden."

Definitely not someone you should trust.

You definately are a bad enough dude to rescue Ronnie!

Before someone asks... I took a screenshot with MAME. Don't know why it is so dark

There is. They post about it all the time over at RPG Watch. Broken Hourglass, I believe. And I believe it's nearing completion.

IMHO opinion Baldur`s Gate in full 3D is great idea. I played in Blade of Destiny, Star Trail and Shadows of the Riva ( ?) so Drakensang should be good game ( story and combat system).

Unfortunately your comparison to the Realms of Arkania games is not relavant since the combat in this game will be real time and completely different than in those games.

I had hopes for this game since I liked the ROA games, but I don't like what I see.

The graphics look nice and shiny though!

What's wrong with Broken Hourglass?

I had hopes for this game since I liked the ROA games, but I don't like what I see.

What do you see? There is not much to know or see besides learning that the combat is RTwP.

I see an action RPG with Real time combat, pretty much every game coming out looks the same.

I hope i am wrong though.

Nothing, but as far as I can tell it might as well suck - it will remain to be seen if it lives up to it's inspiration. Also I'm not sure about the whole "takes place in one city" thing - but I'll definitely give it a go once it becomes available.

bg2 took place almost entirely in one city, cept for the end game, and lotsa ppl liked it
Athkatla was big, but to say the game 'almost entirely' took place there is a lie. The underdark sections were equally as massive and there were loads of towns outside the city. I'd say it only forms, at most, a third of the game.

We shall see... I have some remaining doubts about this game, but I will desist from passing judgement on it until I have found out more about the quests, dialogue and other cRPG aspects...

Coming to think about it, I don't want to sound overly critical myself. At least someone's trying
