Looks like this patch was the big one, huh? Is anyone who wasn't too impressed with the original game willing to give it a shot? I'd like to hear about your results.

I agree, max settings and smooth like a hot knife through butter even when sprinting through large towns. I'm really impressed. The community did an amazing job.

Dramatic improvements across the board, but they can't fix the fact that it's just not a very good game.

It really is a shame. If only PB had, for all the game's technical faults, given them a solid Gothic experience gameplay-/atmosphere-/storywise to work with.

Are the loading times improved, too?

Yes, definitely.. They also added quite many changes to Shader effects. The promised combat with multiple opponents at once works as advertised. Overall quite an interesting release, definitely worth checking.

Nor did I. It was a huge change as before the patch having full settings meant I'd enjoy a slide show. Imagine my surprise.

My system:
AMD Athelon 64 FX-62 Dual Core 2.81ghz
6gigs DDR2 1066
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX (overclocked a tad)

My x1950 Pro handled G3 smooth as a fish from 1.3 on. Dunno why.

Maybe because of some ini settings I did... I never finished the game, because by the time I was about to clear the northern parts, I bought gothic universe and now and trying to play the three games one after the other. But I can't seem to get into Gothic 1... It's just so strange and other and why do I always die in combat? Better yet: why do I have to fight at all? It's not fair. At least it's not fair if I keep dying...

More or less. If you wanted to like Gothic 3 but couldn't because of the technical issues and bugs, this is worth it. If you don't like the core game regardless of the bugs this will do nothing for you.

On the other hand, if you're like me, you didn't know Gothic 3 was such a bad game until now because all the fundamental design flaws were hidden under the myriad of technical flaws.

The Codex review of Gothic 3 told you all you needed to know.
Its not great or 'Epic" when compared to its predecessors but at the same time its not so terrible you brains will melt out of your ears, the technical bugs really messed it up though, i bought the Collectors/GOTY edition and even with the previous community patches had problems with it

It is a pity they got rid of the amusing AI bugs. I always love finding hilarious things the AI does in games, and attempt to egg them on in that direction.

Has anyone tried the new questpack, yet? I'm going to try it myself, but since I never really could bring myself to get that far into the game, it'd be hard to tell how much it improves the experience. Supposedly it not only adds new quests but also modifies existing ones.
