On the official Dragon Age website Bioware has added a <a href="http://dragonage.bioware.com/creatures">"Creatures" section</a> to their Dragon Age world information. Only one creature, the Hurlock, is profiled right now, with more to come later.<blockquote>Taller than their shorter genlock cousins, the hurlocks are roughly of human size but are possessed with considerable strength and constitution. The shock troop of the darkspawn, a single berserking hurlock can often be a match for numerous opponents at once. They are known to adorn themselves with roughly-carved tattoos to keep track of their kills and deeds, though it is unknown whether or not there is a uniform standard to these markings.

Hurlocks known as "Emissaries" have also been known to appear during a Blight: these darkspawn are the only ones recorded as being capable of human speech and are often capable of employing magic spells.</blockquote>You can also check out some concept art and animations <a href="http://dragonage.bioware.com/creatures/hurlock.html">here</a> too.

Or one moderately leveled 12 year old elven warrior princess.

"these darkspawn are the only ones recorded as being capable of human speech"

The one you get that one quest from.

Imagine if by some miracle they pulled of a depressing total war atmosphere with death and drama all around... Oh well, at least it has isometric view.

Damn now I want to be a game writer. You basically do nothing, just steal everything from successful books and get quite an amount of money.

I don't get this. When they first announced the game years ago they said they were spending years just coming up with their own world with its own theme and lore, but everything is a typical high fantasy tolkien ripoff.....

Don't know if the game will be any good but the world setting they have created sure appears boring and lame to me.

Yeah, that's the true problem. The text hypes these critters as dangerous, and yet we all know that our characters will be made to obliterate 20 of them (or 200!) during the course of the game. These encounters will not be solitary 1 on 1 encounters where everyone pauses the game and does their best to find some tactics just to survive. Instead, we'll encounter 5 of them, steamroll them, and move on to the next mass of XP.

Blah.

Considering it's a magic fantasy setting and that you have rogues as a PC or NPC class then I think it's entirely possible for one of those Uruk-Hai to give a couple of fighters trouble if the player doesn't take the time and consideration into placement of the party members, traps and magic. And if the player is resourceful then they probably deserve to walk through a couple of the orcs with relative ease.
