Dorian Hart, lead designer at Irrational Games, has written up a dev diary for IGN. In it, he discusses testing new powers.

I fire up a test map. (I've grown fond of using a Cuban set, with palm trees and brimming fruit carts that are a joy to blow up.) I place Minuteman, and then some corrupt cops to play the part of doomed lab rats. While it's not really his style, Minuteman uses Object Lesson on a cop. Bampf! No more cop. There's just a trashcan. (Eventually, Green Genie's going to complain about this, I know. A trash can? How pedestrian! We'll make it something more colorful, like a green and yellow vase full of red and blue flowers. That'll make her happy.) For kicks, Minuteman runs over, picks up the trashcan, and throws it into a melon cart. Some fruit spills out on the ground while the cop/can spins away down the dirt road. A few seconds later the garbage can turns back into a cop, sprawled out and dazed but none the worse for wear. Once he gets his bearings he's back up and gunning for me. (It's not all fun and games, mind. Part of what I'm doing is trying to find breakage cases. I zap another cop, pick up the trashcan, and hold it there until the duration expires, to make sure it can handle that case with some elegance. Fortunately, it does; when the cop reverts, Minuteman dumps him on the ground.)

That's what I love about Freedom Force: environments you can mess around with mercilessly. Toss in a few hobos here and there for target practice and this game will be a winner.

The state of insanity.
Now THAT sounds like a blast! Be even cooler if you could pick up those melons and chuck them at people. Or even shove one onto a baddies head and watch him stumble around trying to get it off. :P

I liked the humor and old 50s/60s style of the comics. I'll probably be getting the sequel.

The original was one of those surprise games that I didn't expect to be good. Hopefully, Irrational have some tricks left up their sleeves. Fortunately, it looks like this game will have the same sort of quirky humor, I just hope that they'll manage to do a more free form approach to the game.
