Minecraft/survival zombie/SP/MP
Just started playing, so far it looks awesome.

UmdAWjx.jpg

Building and terrain can be mined/crafted.

Currently in Alpha, just introduced randomly generated world.

First game I played where smell matters, I shot a stag with a crossbow, harvested some venison, putting meat in my bag attracts zombies and I got eaten by a zombie doggie. Boiling the meat will reduce smell, or just take canned food on travels.

Any chance for a Codex server?

Some gameplay by me for those who are curious:

Alpha 9.0
Church Run
Gonna loot those coffins in the graveyard.

So far it is easy, other that doggies at the start. Game is configurable, you can have fast zombies all the time if you want.

Hit boxes seems a little off, smashing a hammer towards a zombie on the ground hits the grass and doesn't hit him, needs better programming. Also the zombies attack hit box and the player's...
Other than that its a cool concept wonderfully executed, better than Unturned shitty low polygon graphics.

Started playing in the middle of a road, spent half an hour collecting water and rotten bread from trash bags, found a fortified base, stepped on a landmine while escaping from some fat zombies who were stepping into landmines themselves.

Started a new file, this time it's a burned out village, picked up a pistol, attracted a dog's attention while testing my aim, managed to kill it with an sliver of life left, holed up in the remains of a house to see if I could find a way to heal, ninja zombie creeps up the debris just like I did and whacks me in the nose as I turned around to see what was making those muted breathing sounds.

10/10, Like Skyrim With Guns

but Unturned is a more complete game from what I heard

Does this game get regular updates? Heard come controversy a while back that the studio basically gives a lot of insignificant incremental updates and rarely adding anything significant.

I only started playing but the latest update added random map generation. Before that players had only 1 map to play with.
Starting multiplayer now, default difficulty is too easy.

Been playing a while. Got boring once you figured out how to easily trap the zombies with your fortress design.

Still, good updates. Map's been updated regularly. The new sloping terrain is nice (a few updates back it was all blocky like Minecraft). Mainly got it as a better house building fun game over Minecraft because it had nicer textures, also the combat is a lot nicer.

Once you do get a fort though, you kind of run out of things to do. It is quite fun during the early days when you've got that struggle for survival.

So, how is it nowadays? Been looking at all these dayz/survival games and they all seem to have the same problem - hackers. At least this one could be fun in a private server.

Lots of games are in 'playable state.' Starbound is in a 'playable state.'

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
:necro:

So this is now 60% off in the latest Halloween Steam sale and I'm quite tempted to give it a try. Anyone still familiar with this 2 years after this thread was posted and would recommend?

I'm not after a huge timesink made of numerous skinner boxes and I'm not a big fan of playing with others anymore although in short bursts it's ok. Is this a game where you can more or less play it as a single player PvE game and not lose progress if you don't log in for a couple of days?

A friend of mine is totally addicted to this game and wants me to join his server, but I dunno. Except from State of Decay I never seen much good from the Zombie genre.

It has a pretty neat building system, I've been playing single player with Valmod. My main issue with it is that the most optimal defense always turns out to be a massive spike-filled moat, so you have to force yourself to lose out on the functionality if you want to build something that looks good.

I've been playing this game a LOT recently, and talking about it on Shoutbox, where it became a meme for a while, as we all bugged Crispy to set up a server.

Jokes aside though, this game is absolutely awesome, still in Early Access and under development, but for my money, the culmination of all the survival-type games that we've been inundated with lately. Ever since Minecraft, everyone has been trying to hit that sweet spot of survival gameplay. Games like Terraria, Starbound, DayZ, Rust, etc. But 7 Days has the most fleshed out and enjoyable gameplay of all of them, at least in my opinion.

It's not perfect, the end game could use more stuff, but still being in development, the devs will get a chance to add it. Still, it has a ton of content, and nails all the things other games fail at. You can build and craft whatever you want, like in Minecraft, but the building and crafting trees are way more complex, and the challenge is fine-tuned so much better. In Minecraft, you can build almost everyting within the first hour or two of gameplay, once you know what you are doing, whereas in 7 days, it will take you a long time, and you have to partake in things like exploration, scavenging, travel, trading, and combat in order to get it done.

The way scavenging is worked into the game is also brilliant and contributes a lot to the game. You get to explore many abandoned cities per every random map, and each one contains all these different buildings and points of interests. Breaking open safes or sneaking into a dangerous area or hitting up the trader gives a casino-like thrill, as you anticipate what you might obtain.

The combat is not perfect, there are some hitbox issues, but all-in-all, its fairly enjoyable. You get a lot of weapons to play with, lots of different types of zombies, some of them truly scary as you ramp up in level.

If you enjoy survival-type games at all, a very STRONG recommendation.

Oh, and Crispy, where's the damn server?

Yeah its a great game for what it is but personally I think its going downhill as it gets further developed.

With A16 I love the painting and electric/trap system but the sleeper spawns are gay, the glowing zombies are gay and waaaay too much is broken at least last I played (I know there was an update I didnt bother with)

Still a badass game and alot of fun but imho it peaked around A10/A11 and has been going downhill since. I really hope A17 pulls things together because as much as 16 was a step up from a12-a15 there is just way too much broken shit (zombies spawning in my base that is totally player made, ninja zombies spawning right behind you, gay sleeper spawns not working right, dumb "gamestate" that is exploitable, MP being totally exploitable with dupes still not fixed, etc...)

Sounds like I hate the game but I dont- I think its a blast and have 1000+ hours into it but the development has started crawling along and things are just way too broken right now to fully enjoy imho.

I think it is just way too difficult to get started. It takes hours and hours to get basic scavenging material and you can easily get swarmed and killed.
Nah, with the new gamestate its actually incredibly easy.

You want to avoid leveling too fast and get the scavenging out of the way first- What you face will be level dependent now so if you start building and leveling right away you will put yourself in a harder place than to go right to scavenging...Utilize the trader.

The best way to play now (sadly) is to nomad it for a bit- This is actually the easiest the game has been imho but having a base is damn near useless now. Keep some booze on you and you can literally run away from everything (including the 7th day horde) and just build chests outside the towns as you loot, scrap and sell everything and try not to level until you are fairly well geared, then start building your base.

edit- This is one of my main complaints- In a base building game you actually put yourself in a worse spot by bothering with a base- I enjoy that part the most and like getting creative but someone who avoids having a base entirely will be better off... Its stupid-We usually build an awesome base but then build a small "7th day base" that we dont even bother repairing and just use for horde nights when we want to fight them- But again, pure nomad playstyle is the insta-win button sadly.

I dunno. I am much newer to it, having started with A15, but I like most of the changes in A16. Zombie sleeper cells for example are awesome. It makes exploring larger buildings and structures way more interesting and exciting than the old way. The sleepers combined with stealth improvements in A16 make for a whole new approach to exploration, as you get significant bonuses for sneaking up on sleeping zombies.

I've seen some glitches with spawns, but nothing game-breaking. The only things I don't like with A16 so far are the irradiated zombies (next to impossible to kill without wasting a ton of ammo), and how hard it is to get my favorite weapon, the magnum. Also, zombie drops are way worse in A16, but I guess that's the devs trying to encourage scavenging and trading more.

And come on, if you played a game for 1000+ hours, I don't care what your complaints are, you HAVE to love it.

I think it is just way too difficult to get started. It takes hours and hours to get basic scavenging material and you can easily get swarmed and killed.

Not really. I am a relative noob, and I am sure there are people who are way better at this than me, but I never really have problems with the early game. The easiest way to start is to dig out an underground cave before the first night. You can slowly make it bigger and build it up. My current game, I started basically with a hole in the ground for the first night, and then eventually grew it into my decent base. But for invasions, the easiest way is to build a couple of wooden platforms near each other, connected by a wooden block bridge. So each platform is 3x3 blocks, and maybe 5 blocks high. At first, just upgrade the blocks to 2nd wood level. Then put down 4 rows of wooden log stakes around each platform. Put a ramp next to one of the platforms so you can jump from the top of the ramp onto the platform.

When the invasion starts, climb on top of one of the platforms with a 100-200 stone arrows and a bow. The zombies will hit the stakes and lose their legs. They will crawl toward the platforms and try to take them down. But the stakes will slow their attack rate. Meanwhile, you can pepper them with arrows from above, aim for headshots. In this way, you can easily survive invasions. As time goes on, you can further upgrade the platforms with metal, to make them sturdier, and you will have to upgrade weaponry for more powerful zombies (e.g. shotgun for spider zombies that climb up, pistol/rifle for cop zombies that have a ranged attack).

But the initial set up materials for this kind of defense are really cheap. Just start near some woods and with bird nests around. 200 feathers, wood blocks construction and upgrade is really cheap in A16, some stone which is easy to get.

My current game, I am on day 85, and this defense is still doing alright. The only problem is the cop zombies which destroy block from afar if you don't shoot them down fast, and the glowing zombies which take forever to kill. After each invasion, the platforms look like swiss cheese, but they hold out, and then it's fairly easy to rebuild everything in a day.

Wow, doesn't seem like many people on the codex play this game.

The vanilla version of the game is fun for a while, but the mods are where the game becomes really fun.

Just install the mod launcher and it makes it easy to manage multiple different mods, so you can try out different takes on the game experience.

Oh, I guess this is the thread, I accidentally bumped another thread.

I've been playing this off and on for a while.

I really enjoy the ravenhearst mod though. The vanilla game gets boring after a while, but ravenhearst makes the game much more challenging.

Sell it for us
